Opening Prayer: Father, please keep me from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. Help me to fear you and keep myself holy.

Memory Verse: “Having henceforth these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” -2 Cor 7:1.

Lesson Introduction
God’s desire is that His people will be clean outwardly and inwardly (Zech 3:4). He loves those whose hearts and lives are perfect towards him and has made adequate provision for their all-around cleansing (Heb 10:22). In Psalms 51:7, David prayed for God’s cleansing. We also have a crucial role to play in this matter.

Allow the assistant teacher to conduct the class, mark the assignment and take the closing prayer.

Having the Lord Jesus as our Priest transfers to us certain responsibilities which bothers on the life of holiness.
An example of such responsibilities is the duty of washing our bodies with water which symbolizes external cleansing.
Identify any other four demands of our High Priest on cleansing from the passages.

Question: What is self-cleansing?
Answer: It is a continuous and decisive effort by an individual to purge self from all forms of filthiness through the Holy Spirit in order to become acceptable to God.
Question: What does the word of God say on the cleansing exercise?
Answers:

The word of God reveals our true person to us. Romans 12:2
The word of God renews our minds. Romans 12:2

Question: Isaiah 1:16 gave some instructions on self-cleansing. What are these instructions?
Answers:

Wash yourself
Cleanse yourself
Put away evil
Cease from doing evil.

Question: What instruction did Jeremiah 4:14 give on self-cleansing?
Answer: Wash your heart from wickedness and evil/vain thoughts.
Question: Apostle Paul directed believers to keep their physical bodies from two works of the flesh. What are they?
Answers: 1. Sin 2. Lust
Question: What did the following Bible passages say about the benefits of self-cleansing? 2 Tim. 2:21, 1 John 3:3, Heb. 10:22, Heb. 4:6?
Answers: 2 Tim. 2:21. The person becomes sanctified and becomes useful to God. 1 John 3:3. It assures the believers of eternal life with the Saviour, Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10:22. Self-cleansing gives believers confidence to come to God’s presence in faith.

Lesson Outline 2: How Can A Man Cleanse Himself?

Note: The Teacher uses the student’s responses under class activity 1 as bases to treat lesson outline 2.
Question: How can a person cleanse himself to be acceptable to God?
Answers:

Ask the Lord Jesus Christ to cleanse you of impurities of sin through the blood of Jesus Christ. Hebrews: 14,22
Allow the word of God to transform the areas of your lives that are not pleasing to God. Strictly abide by the principles of the word of God. Psalms 119:9, Eph. 5:26, Ezekiel 36:25.
After confessing your sins, never go back to them again. Hebrews 12:1.
Avoid anything that is evil.
Avoid the deeds of the flesh or ungodly attitudes and behaviors. Never embrace whatever God disapproves. Romans 8:13, Col3:5.
Draw close to God in studying God’s words, prayers, worship, fellowship. James 4:8
