Whether you are working for yourself or you are working for an organisation, almost everyone needs a rewarding career. It is when you have a rewarding career that you can afford all that life has to offer.

In this article, I want to talk about Building a 10X Career. It simply means applying the 10X Rule mindset. This has to do with taking massive action, extraordinary effort, and thinking big when it comes to your professional journey so you don’t just work a job, you can build a legacy-driven career. I will show you exactly how to do that in this article. 

Here’s a structured take you could use when you are building a 10x Career.

#1 Adopt the 10X Mindset

There is nothing that you want to do in life that does not have to do with mindset. This also includes your journey towards a rewarding career. You need to start seeing beyond the ordinary. Stop telling yourself you cannot do it. You need to look beyond receiving a salary alone. You must be ready to be greater than where you are now. 

A 10x career starts with how you think. Don’t aim for “enough to get by”—aim for massive impact. Think bigger than your role, industry, or limitations. You need to work on your limitations and be ready to surpass. Sorry to disappoint you. I do not want to tell you that SWOT analysis here. 

Ordinary effort = survival.
10X effort = success + significance.

#2 Commit to Continuous Learning

A 10X professional never becomes stagnant. Stay ahead by:

Upskilling regularly (new tools, certifications, leadership skills).

Learning from mentors, books, and real-world experiences.

Seeking feedback and improving relentlessly.

#3 Take Massive Action

If you want to build a 10x career, you have to fire on all cylinders. Someone that want to build such an amiable career will not wait for an opportunity, he will always go ahead to create opportunities for himself.

You must also be ready to stick your neck where others are running away for opportunities. You need to volunteer to do some things even if no one will be ready to pay you for such tasks. Volunteering for challenges others avoid.

You also have to make sure you overdeliver on any responsibility that is committed to your hand. You must be ready to go beyond what is expected of you as a staff if you want to build a rewarding career.

You also leverage on pursuing side projects, networking, and collaborations. You should not rely on your salary alone. You need to find a way to build wealth beyond your present generation. 

#4 Build a Powerful Personal Brand

In today’s world, it is all about visibility. You can be working for an organisation and still build an intimidating brand for yourself. Let me ask, if your  name is mentioned at the office, what comes to the mind of your co-worker, that exactly is your brand.

visibility = value.

You will need to showcase your expertise by Publishing insights across different platforms. This can include articles, videos, talks among others. You can also Building a professional online presence by having business profiles and platforms where you can showcase your skills. You can also Become the go-to person in your niche. You need to do this by creating consistent unique contents that proves that you are an expert.

#5 Develop Resilience & Discipline

There are many times that you will be rejected even by those that are very close to you. There are some that will even misunderstood your actions. Some will even think that are even misunderstood it. You must be ready not to give up. You also have to start again when you fail. Beside you have to be disciplined. There are some time that you will have to let go of in order for you to succeed. It will take way your sleep but you have to move on.

#6 Think Legacy, Not Just Salary

At times, when some people signed up for a job. All they are looking for is how to make more money. They want increment at all cost. I need to say it here that it is not all about salary. You should have  plan on how you are going to build a legacy for yourself and your generation. A 10X career is not just about earning more—it’s about creating lasting value. You have to plan on how you can create a lasting value for yourself and your generation. 

There are some basic questions that you need to ask such as:

How does my work change lives?

What will I be remembered for in my industry?

Am I building something future generations can benefit from?
