Spiritual Awakening. RCCG Sunday School Teachers
Opening prayer: Father, deliver us from the spirit of spiritual sleep and slumbering. Give us strength to watch and be sober.
Previous knowledge: The teacher should allow the assistant teacher to review the previous week’s lesson.
Bible Passage: 1 Thess. 5:1-8
Memory Verse: Therefore, let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober”- 1 Thessalonians 5:6
Lesson Introduction
Scripturally, sleep could either be caused naturally (Prov. 3:24), or supernaturally (Gen. 2:21). Sleep is also used as a figurative expression of death (John 11:11-13), spiritual weakness or Lukewarmness (Eph. 5:14). Spiritual sleep is considered dangerous for any believer. This calls for spiritual awakening, i.e. waking up from spiritual sleep.
Lesson Aim
To study the signs, dangers and remedies for spiritual sleep.
Teaching Objectives: Through the lesson, students should be able to:
- Identify the signs and dangers of spiritual sleep.
- Discover the remedy for spiritual sleep.
Teaching Plan
To achieve the above stated objectives, the teacher should:
- Explain the meaning of spiritual sleep.
- Enumerate the remedy for spiritual sleep.
- Summarise, conclude, evaluate and give assignments.
- Allow the assistant teacher to conduct the class, take the closing prayer and mark the assignment.
Text Review
The Apostle Paul distinguished between children of the day and the children of the night in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-8(5). The Teacher should identify any five of such differences from today’s passage. For instance:
- The children of the day are children of light while the children of the night are children of darkness.
