Bible Text: II Thess 3:6-16
2Th 3:6 Our friends, we command you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to keep away from all believers who are living a lazy life and who do not follow the instructions that we gave them.
2Th 3:7 You yourselves know very well that you should do just what we did. We were not lazy when we were with you.
2Th 3:8 We did not accept anyone’s support without paying for it. Instead, we worked and toiled; we kept working day and night so as not to be an expense to any of you.
2Th 3:9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to demand our support; we did it to be an example for you to follow.
2Th 3:10 While we were with you, we used to tell you, “Whoever refuses to work is not allowed to eat.”
2Th 3:11 We say this because we hear that there are some people among you who live lazy lives and who do nothing except meddle in other people’s business.
2Th 3:12 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we command these people and warn them to lead orderly lives and work to earn their own living.
2Th 3:13 But you, friends, must not become tired of doing good.
2Th 3:14 It may be that some there will not obey the message we send you in this letter. If so, take note of them and have nothing to do with them, so that they will be ashamed.
2Th 3:15 But do not treat them as enemies; instead, warn them as believers.

2Th 3:16 May the Lord himself, who is our source of peace, give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all.

Lesson Introduction

There is a popular adage that says ‘an idle mind is the devil’s workshop’. No one was created a nonentity by God. Everybody has a talent embedded in him or her, our today’s text is in consonance with it. Today, you can bear witness that some physically challenged people are displaying their talents and skills in various vocations. So, any youth or anybody who says he/she has nothing to do should refrain from being idle and check inward.

What does it mean to be vulnerable?

It is when someone is exposed to the chance of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. Then what is ‘vices’? Vice or vices means a bad habit. It, therefore, means that if you are idle, there is that tendency of being prone or exposed to some habits that will be hazardous to the society.

1Sa 16:16 So give us the order, sir, and we will look for a man who knows how to play the harp. Then when the evil spirit comes on you, the man can play his harp, and you will be all right again.”
1Sa 16:17 Saul ordered them, “Find me a man who plays well and bring him to me.”
1Sa 16:18 One of his attendants said, “Jesse of the town of Bethlehem has a son who is a good musician. He is also a brave and handsome man, a good soldier, and an able speaker. The LORD is with him.”
1Sa 16:19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse to say, “Send me your son David, the one who takes care of the sheep.”
1Sa 16:20 Jesse sent David to Saul with a young goat, a donkey loaded with bread, and a leather bag full of wine.
1Sa 16:21 David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul liked him very much and chose him as the man to carry his weapons.

Gen 39:1 Now the Ishmaelites had taken Joseph to Egypt and sold him to Potiphar, one of the king’s officers, who was the captain of the palace guard.

Gen 39:4 Potiphar was pleased with him and made him his personal servant; so he put him in charge of his house and everything he owned.

Idle Youths Will Be Exposed To Many Evil Things Such As:

Hard Drugs. Drug Barons may lure them to carry drugs for them.
Armed Robbery. They may be lured to join an armed robbery gang.
Hired Assasins. They may be recruited into a killer squad.
Kidnapping and Banditry. They may induce them to become their members.
Lesbianism, gay etc. Satan dangles huge money to lure idle people into his kingdom.
They may be lured to join secret cults for quick wealth and fame.

Activity

In this period of a high rate of unemployment, how can youths engage himself/herself?

Summary

Please youths, engage yourselves in any legitimate work to avoid social vices.

Conclusion

Idleness is a destructive weapon in the hand of the devil against his victims. Please look for any legitimate and profitable venture to do. And you will be surprised how God will bless the work of your hand.

Father, thank you for the salvation of my soul
Father, deliver our youth and the unemployed from the spirit of idleness today
Father, open my eyes to see the talents you have deposited in me
Father, answer Daddy GO over children that they will be greater than their parents
