Restitution. RCCG House Fellowship Manual.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Leader should remind members on reasons why they should repent from all ungodly ways that can cause doom to their journey in life.
MEMORY VERSE: “Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed.” – Numbers 5:7.
BIBLE TEXT: Exodus 22:1-5 (KJV)
1 If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
2 If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.
3 If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
4 If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double.
5 If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man’s field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: What is restitution? It means making right what you have done wrongly. Luke 19:8. This is therefore important for genuine Christians and believers to attend to this fact; for without this, the sin is not forgiven no matter how long you pray and fast. Because it is clearly part of true repentance and salvation. Luke 19:9.
LEADER’S DIARY
LESSON AIM: To have an understanding of what restitution entails and its benefits.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:
i. Know that restitution involves repentance.
ii. Access benefits that restitution brings.
TEXT REVIEW: EXODUS 22:1-5
i. Restitution adverts God’s wrath.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: REPENTANCE INVOLVES RESTITUTION
Restitution is restoring or giving back to another person or people that which we have unjustly taken away. If we have deprived others of some material or anything, we must then return those things back or the value of whatever it is. Either intangible or not, every effort must be made to remove the curse of the wrong upon our he if indeed we have genuinely repented. Proverbs 26:11, Luke 19:9-10, 2 Corinthians 7:10-11.
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: BENEFITS OF RESTITUTION
Just as anyone who fails to restitute his/her ways before God and even the man who is wronged or offended; there are still blessings for us if we can yield to do the needful and the blessings are however numerous. They include the following:
- Divine restoration of the things returned. God will return it back and it shall be in form of blessings unto the one restituted.
- Prayer of blessings unto you, from the person who was wronged and robbed. Judges 17:1-2.
- The total settlement of old accounts. 1 Timothy 5:24
- It increases peace among men. Romans 12:18.
- Access to new life. Luke 19:9.
- Freedom from curses and God’s anger.
ACTIVITY: Let the leader reiterates the need for instant restitution.
SUMMARY: Restitution ends living under a spell and God’s curse.
CONCLUSION: Undone restitution gives satan a chance and opportunity to accuse and oppose you in the presence of God. And you being under a curse from the one you have wronged, the problems with which satan will oppose you will just simply and easily come to pass EXCEPT this needful (RESTITUTION) is correctly done. A word is enough for the available wise.
PRAYER POINTS:
- In Jesus’ Name, my Heavenly Father I thank You for opening my eyes and heart, to see and understand how important it is to restitute my ways.
- My Father, My Father, I love to take a step to restitute my ways and blessed of You; please teach me, direct me and help me in Jesus’ Name.
- Father, bring all believers to the realm of restoring stolen things from God.
- Father, remove all curses incurred on us through the negligence of not restituting in Jesus’ Name.
