The Trap Of Seduction: Why You Must Avoid it

Posted on August 11, 2025August 11, 2025 by Adeniyi Salau

Lesson: The Trap of Seduction

Scripture: “Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning; let’s enjoy ourselves with love! My husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey. He took his purse filled with money and will not be home till full moon.” — Proverbs 7:18–20

  1. Context of the Passage

In this chapter, King Solomon is warning young men (and all believers) about the dangers of sexual immorality. He uses the example of a seductive woman who lures a young man into sin with enticing words and promises of pleasure. The woman takes advantage of her husband’s absence to tempt the young man into committing adultery.

  1. The Tactics of Seduction

The verses reveal common strategies used by temptation:

  1. Appealing to Pleasure – “Let’s drink deeply of love till morning” (offering instant gratification).
  2. Creating a False Sense of Safety – “My husband is not at home” (removing the fear of being caught).
  3. Giving Assurance of Opportunity – “He has gone on a long journey” (claiming there’s plenty of time).

This mirrors how sin often works—it promises enjoyment, removes the fear of consequences, and convinces you that there’s no risk.

  1. The Spiritual Warning

The rest of Proverbs 7 shows the end result: the young man’s life is destroyed. Verse 27 says:

“Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.”

The Bible is clear: sexual sin is not just a physical act—it is a spiritual trap that leads to guilt, broken relationships, and even spiritual death.

  1. Lessons for Us Today

Guard Your Heart: Temptation begins in the mind before it becomes an action (Proverbs 4:23).

Recognize the Lies of Sin: Sin always promises pleasure but hides the pain that follows.

Flee When Tempted: Joseph in Genesis 39 did not negotiate with temptation—he ran away.

Stay Close to God’s Word: Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

Conclusion

Proverbs 7:18–20 is not just an ancient story—it’s a mirror showing how temptation operates in our daily lives. Sin always disguises itself as harmless fun, but in reality, it is a path to destruction. Our protection is staying close to God, being alert to the devil’s schemes, and fleeing from situations that can lead us into sin.
