Opening Prayer
Almighty God, help me to follow the right path to get wealth in the name of Jesus.
Bible Reading
Jeremiah 17:7-11
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is…
10 … I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways…
11 … so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days and at his end shall be a fool.
Lesson Aim
To help learners understand the dangers of pursuing wealth quickly and illegitimately, and how to resist that urge.
1 – The Get-Rich-Quick Syndrome
- Refers to a strong desire to acquire wealth quickly without proper effort.
- Often leads people into harmful paths (scams, crime, unethical choices).
- Key Message: True security and blessing are from trusting God, not shortcuts.
2 – Resisting the Urge
Teachers should help learners explore biblical and practical ways to avoid this mindset:
Personal Steps:
- Trusting God for provision.
- Staying diligent and patient in work.
- Practising wisdom, contentment, and integrity.
Community / Societal Measures:
- Promoting ethical values and discouraging the glorification of quick money.
- Educating about scams and schemes.
Memory Verse
“Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.” — Proverbs 13:11
Class Activities
- List additional serious consequences of the get-rich-quick mentality.
- Identify measures society can take to combat this syndrome.
Assignment
Write five scriptures that warn against get-rich-quick attitudes and summarise each in one sentence.
Conclusion
The “get-rich-quick syndrome” may tempt many, but lasting wealth and purpose come through integrity, trust in God, and hard work (1 Timothy 6:10).
