Text: Luke 10:19 (KJV)
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
🔹 1. Context of Luke 10:19
Jesus had just sent out 70 disciples to preach the kingdom of God, heal the sick, and cast out demons. When they returned, they were amazed and said, “Even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.” (Luke 10:17). Jesus responded by affirming their spiritual authority and revealing the fall of Satan from heaven (Luke 10:18).
Then comes verse 19, where Jesus gives a divine empowerment — not just to the 70, but to all true disciples:
“I give unto YOU power…”
This power is spiritual authority over every demonic force — including witchcraft, spells, curses, and satanic plans.
🔹 2. Key Words in the Verse
“Power” – Greek: exousia, meaning delegated authority.
“Serpents and scorpions” – symbolic of demonic spirits, witches, sorcerers, and deceptive spiritual forces.
“Over all the power of the enemy” – total dominion over Satan and his agents.
“Nothing shall by any means hurt you” – a divine shield is promised to obedient, Spirit-led believers.
🔥 3. The Lesson for Believers
🛡️ a. You Are Not a Victim, You Are a Victor
Many believers fear witchcraft and demonic attacks. But Jesus clearly says:
“I have given you power…”
This means:
You can stand against any curse.
You can rebuke demonic attacks.
You are untouchable as long as you are obedient and walking in holiness.
🗡️ b. You Must Use the Authority
Authority must be exercised:
Speak boldly against witchcraft and demonic activity.
Declare God’s Word in prayer and fasting.
Rebuke unclean spirits in Jesus’ name.
⚠️ 4. The Lesson for Witches and the Rebellious
This verse is a warning to those who:
Practice witchcraft.
Send demons to afflict others.
Disobey or resist the Holy Spirit.
🧙♂️ a. Your Powers Are Limited
Jesus said, “I give MY people power over ALL your power.”
No matter how many spells you cast…
No matter how long you’ve been in darkness…
Your evil plans will not succeed against God’s elect.
😨 b. Your Judgment is Near
“I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven” (Luke 10:18)
If Satan, your master, fell — what of you?
Every witch, sorcerer, and false prophet who refuses to repent will fall:
Just like Satan fell.
Just like Pharaoh fell.
Just like Jezebel fell.
🔥 c. Resistance to the Holy Spirit is Dangerous
Acts 7:51 – “Ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.”
To resist God’s Spirit is to:
Harden your heart to truth.
Risk being given over to strong delusion.
Eventually be judged by fire (Hebrews 10:26-27).
🙏 5. A Call to Repentance
If you are involved in:
Witchcraft
Sorcery
Secret societies
Rebellion against God’s Word
There is still mercy if you repent.
Isaiah 55:7 – “Let the wicked forsake his way… and he will have mercy upon him.”
🙌 6. Encouragement for the Faithful
Beloved, if you’re facing attacks from the enemy:
Do not fear. Jesus has given you power.
Stand in prayer. Live holy.
Keep declaring the Word.
Command evil spirits to go in Jesus’ name.
Conclusion
Luke 10:19 is more than encouragement — it is a spiritual weapon.
It reminds us:
Who we are in Christ.
What power we carry.
And what fate awaits the unrepentant enemies of God.
📖 Memory Verse:
“Behold, I give unto you power…” – Luke 10:19
❓ Reflective Questions:
- Am I walking in the spiritual authority that Christ gave me?
- Have I allowed fear or ignorance to weaken my stand against evil?
- If I’ve been involved in darkness, am I ready to repent today?
