The Eternal King: Jesus Reigns Forever
Subtitle:
Why Earthly Thrones Crumble but Christ’s Throne Endures
Key Verse:
Revelation 11:15 (NIV)
“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.”
Introduction:
In a world filled with rising and falling leaders, crowned kings, and fallen empires, there is One whose throne is never shaken: Jesus Christ, the King of kings. Earthly kings may wear crowns, roar like lions, and command armies, but eventually—they die.
Their strength fades. Their legacies pass.
But Jesus reigns forever. Amen!
Lesson Body:
#1 Earthly “Lion Kings” Are Temporary
Throughout history, mighty rulers have been likened to lions—bold, fearsome, dominant. Kings like Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, Caesar, and many tribal chiefs have ruled with power. In modern times, presidents, governors, and influential leaders often walk with lion-like pride and strength. But…
Psalm 49:12 – “People, despite their wealth, do not endure; they are like the beasts that perish.”
Even the greatest “lion” will one day lie still—hidden behind a curtain, forgotten by time, and replaced by another. The world may celebrate a new ruler, forgetting the one that has fallen. Power on earth is fleeting.
#2 Jesus Is the True and Eternal King
Unlike earthly kings, Jesus’ reign never ends. He was not elected by men but enthroned by God. He does not die and leave the throne empty—He conquered death and lives forever.
Hebrews 1:8 – “But about the Son he says, ‘Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever.’”
Daniel 7:14 – “His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”
The kingdoms of this world will eventually become dust, but Jesus’ kingdom will stand for eternity. He will never be hidden behind a curtain of death.
#3 The Transfer of Power
Revelation 11:15 declares a divine moment:
“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah…”
This speaks of a transfer of all earthly rule into the hands of Jesus. It is a prophetic announcement: all nations, governments, and dominions will be absorbed under the authority of Christ the King.
🕊 4. What This Means for Us Today
We should not put our ultimate hope in earthly leaders.
Our hearts should remain loyal to Christ above all political or tribal authority.
We must live with eternity in view—knowing that Jesus’ kingdom is unshakable.
Let us worship not a lion that dies, but the Lion of Judah who lives forever.
Conclusion:
The curtains may hide the dead lion kings of this world, and new ones may be crowned. But there is only one throne that remains unshaken—the throne of Jesus Christ.
He reigns forever. Amen!
Let every believer live with this truth burning in their heart:
No matter who rules temporarily, Jesus reigns eternally.
Reflection Questions:
- What earthly “lion kings” have you trusted more than Jesus?
- How does knowing Christ’s reign is eternal give you peace today?
- What can you do to live under His kingdom rule in your daily life?
