Will of God

The Will of God. Why It Has To Be Followed

Posted on July 28, 2025July 28, 2025 by Adeniyi Salau

🎯 Main Scripture:
“Not my will, but Yours be done.” – Luke 22:42

Jesus’ statement in Gethsemane wasn’t just a verse — it was a surrender. The will of God is not just a path — it’s a place of peace, purpose, and power.

🙏Good morning, beloved sons and daughters of the Most High God. I welcome you to a fresh week filled with possibilities, divine direction, and heavenly alignment. I speak over your life: You shall walk in purpose, not in confusion. You shall dwell in the secret place of the Most High, and abide under His will.

💥Many walk through life asking, “Why am I here? What should I do? Am I in God’s will?” The answer lies in knowing the will of God. Let’s explore this mystery together — not just to inform your mind, but to transform your path.

📖 LET’S LOOK AT BIBLICAL STORIES THAT ALIGN WITH THE TOPIC:

✝️ 1. Jesus in Gethsemane (Luke 22:42) – “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
➡️Surrender in the face of pain

On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus was overwhelmed with sorrow and deeply distressed. He knew what lay ahead — betrayal, rejection, suffering, and death on a cross. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed in agony, sweating drops of blood. His human will longed for another way: “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me.” Yet, what followed is one of the most powerful statements in Scripture:

“Nevertheless, not My will, but Yours be done.”

This moment teaches us that even when God’s will feels painful or unclear, trusting Him leads to eternal impact. Jesus’ obedience led to salvation for all mankind. His submission was not weakness — it was divine strength.
🕊️ Sometimes, obedience costs us comfort, but it always brings God’s glory.

🐋 2. Jonah and Nineveh (Jonah 1–4) – God’s will overruled Jonah’s disobedience.
➡️You can run, but you can’t hide from God’s purpose

Jonah was a prophet, yet he didn’t want to obey God’s instruction to preach repentance to the wicked city of Nineveh. Instead of following God’s will, he boarded a ship going in the opposite direction. But God intervened — a storm came, Jonah was thrown overboard, and swallowed by a great fish. In the belly of the fish, Jonah repented. When he finally obeyed, Nineveh was saved from destruction.

🧭 Jonah’s story reveals that God’s will often stretches us beyond our comfort zones, and even when we disobey, His mercy gives us a second chance. Our resistance may delay the mission, but it won’t cancel it.
🔥 God’s purpose will prevail — with or without our cooperation. But He prefers it to be with us.

🕯️ 3. Paul’s Conversion (Acts 9) – God’s will interrupted Saul’s destructive ambition.

➡️ Divine interruption for transformation

Saul (later called Paul) was zealous, passionate, and deeply religious — but he was on the wrong path, persecuting Christians in the name of God. On the road to Damascus, God stopped him in his tracks with a bright light. Saul fell to the ground, blinded, and heard the voice of Jesus:

“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”

That moment radically redirected his life. God revealed His will: that Saul would become a chosen vessel to carry the gospel to the Gentiles. From enemy to apostle, Saul became Paul — writer of most of the New Testament and one of the greatest missionaries in history.

🌱 Sometimes, God interrupts us to realign us. His will may not match our plans, but it always exceeds them.
📖 When God’s will takes over, the same passion we once misused can be transformed for divine purpose.

❤️‍🔥God’s will is not always easy, but it is always right. It may involve surrender like Jesus, correction like Jonah, or transformation like Paul. In every case, God’s will is driven by love and eternal purpose

🧠 WHAT IS “WILL”?

WILL in Hebrew is “ratson” (רָצוֹן) — meaning desire, delight, or purpose. In Greek: “thelema” (θέλημα) — an intention or determination. So, the will is a desire, a planned purpose.

📜 WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD?

God’s will is His eternal purpose, His divine plan for creation, nations, and individuals. Romans 12:2 calls it: “good, acceptable and perfect.”

God’s will is His divine plan and purpose for our lives. It’s more than just rules — it’s His heart for us. He doesn’t want to control us, but to lead us to joy, transform us, and shape our eternity.

📖 Two Aspects of God’s Will:

  1. Perfect Will – His ideal plan for us; the safest, most fulfilling place to be.
  2. Permissive Will – What He allows when we choose our own path. It may seem right for a season, but often brings pain and confusion.

“Sometimes God permits our choices (His permissive will), but His perfect will is where true peace and purpose reside.”

But we struggle with it because we:

✔want control
✔Fear of the unknown
✔Pride or impatience
✔Past wounds cloud our trust

But Jesus understands. He, too, had a moment where His humanity cried out: “If it is possible, take this cup from me…” Yet He chose to surrender. And through that surrender came salvation for all.

🤔 IF SO, WHAT IS THE WILL OF MAN?

The will of man is our personal choice or desire based on our thoughts, emotions, and upbringing. It is often influenced by culture, trauma, and ambition.

🔁 IS THE WILL OF GOD ALWAYS GOOD?

YES! Jeremiah 29:11 — “I know the thoughts I think toward you… to give you an expected end.” But it may not always feel good in the moment. Hebrews 12:11 says chastening isn’t joyful, but it yields righteousness.

⚖️ IF SO, WHAT OF THE WILL OF MEN?

The will of man can be misaligned with God’s plan. Proverbs 14:12 — “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is death.”

🌟 HOW IS GOD’S WILL BETTER?

Because He sees the beginning from the end (Isaiah 46:10). We make decisions based on the now. God decides based on eternity.

🧬 DOES HIS WILL DEFINE OUR DESTINY?

Yes. Destiny is fulfilled when we walk in His will. Ephesians 2:10 – “We are His workmanship, created… for good works which God prepared.”

🚷 DOES THAT MEAN WE CAN’T DO WHAT WE WANT?

You can, but it doesn’t mean it’s right. Free will exists, but submission leads to protection. Romans 8:6 — “To be carnally minded is death…”

🔄 HOW DOES WHAT WE WANT CONTRADICT THE WILL OF GOD?

Our desires are often driven by the flesh. James 1:14 — “Each person is tempted… by his own desires.” When unchecked, it leads to sin and error.

🕊️ HOW TO KNOW THE WILL OF GOD FOR YOUR LIFE:

🥰Word of God – Psalm 119:105
🥰Prayer and Fasting – Acts 13:2
🥰Holy Spirit leading – Romans 8:14
🥰Godly counsel – Proverbs 11:14
🥰Peace of God – Colossians 3:15

👣 HOW TO FOLLOW THE WILL OF GOD:

▪️Be willing to surrender (Romans 12:1)
▪️Be humble enough to change direction
▪️Be patient to wait on His timing
▪️Be open to correction and redirection

🧬 HOW DOES THAT HELP US AS CHRISTIANS?

It gives clarity, direction, security, and purpose. You live purposefully, not by trial and error.
🔁 When We Follow His Will…

We experience:
😊 Forgiveness – Our mistakes are not final
😊 Restoration – What was broken is made new
😊 Deliverance – Chains are broken, freedom begins
😊 New chances – Grace gives us fresh starts
😊 Hope for the broken – No story is too shattered
😊 Healing – Spiritually, emotionally, physically

⛔ IF WE ARE FOLLOWING GOD’S WILL, DOES IT MEAN WE CAN’T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT HIM?

John 15:5 — “Without Me, you can do nothing.” Yes, you may succeed in man’s eyes, but not in heaven’s book.

✅ IF WE CAN, THEN WHAT ARE THE THINGS?

📌We may start businesses, marry, study, travel — but without God, it may be empty or lead to regret.

🧭 HOW CAN WE LET GOD GUIDE US?

✔Through constant prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
✔Through scripture meditation (Joshua 1:8)
✔Through waiting and listening (Isaiah 40:31)

⚠️ IF WE MISS IT, WHAT HAPPENS?

✔Delays
✔Painful consequences
✔Missed opportunities BUT God is merciful — He restores and redirects!

🧠 PSYCHOLOGICAL INSIGHT:

The human brain processes will and decision-making in the prefrontal cortex. When we surrender to God’s will, we are retraining the mind to trust eternal wisdom over temporal desire.

💪 PHYSIOLOGICAL INSIGHT:

Stress and anxiety reduce when you trust in a higher plan. Faith in God’s will is therapeutic.

🧬 NEUROLOGICAL INSIGHT:

Obedience to God’s will releases dopamine (reward hormone). Peace and purpose increase. Disobedience often leads to confusion and frustration.

📚 KEY LESSONS:

😊God’s will is discoverable, not mysterious
😊It is better than your plan
😊Obedience to it guarantees fulfilment
😊You are not alone — God walks with you

🧠 MEMORY VERSES:

✍Romans 12:2 🧠
✍Jeremiah 29:11 🌱
✍Proverbs 3:5-6 🛤️
✍John 15:5 🌿

💭 TAKE A MOMENT …

Ask the Lord to reveal where your will has taken over His.
Then surrender it — and trust Him to carry you.

🙏 LET’S PRAY:

Heavenly Father, teach us to know and follow Your will. Remove confusion. Align our hearts. Give us strength to surrender and joy in obedience. Amen.

🔥 PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS :

🗣I decree you shall not walk in confusion!
🗣Your destiny shall not be delayed! 🔥
🗣The voice of God will be clear to you! 🕊️
🗣Where you were once stuck, direction is coming! 🌟
🗣️Your heart is realigned to divine will in Jesus’ name!

CONCLUSION:

Beloved, I love you deeply. I think of you, I pray for you, and I long to see you become all that God has destined. Don’t be afraid of His will — it is full of mercy, power, and joy.
Let the world do what it wants — we choose to walk in God’s will.
“No matter how far we’ve gone in our own will, His mercy is still calling us back. We are not too far gone for His will to reach us.”
Come home. His will is still the safest place.
