Joseph

Joseph: Example Of An Excellent Youth.

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please give me an excellent spirit like Joseph.
MEMORY VERSE: “And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and overall that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.” – Genesis 39:5 (NKJV).

BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 41:25-42
25 And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.
26 The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.
27 And the seven thin and ill-favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.
28 This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.
29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:
30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;
31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.
32 And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.
35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
36 And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perishes not through the famine.
37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according to unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

INTRODUCTION

Joseph, the son of Jacob and Rachel, was born in Mesopotamia, (Gen 30:22-24) in B.C. 1747. His name means “the Lord shall add to me another son. He is memorable for the wonderful providence of God, which raised him from a prison to be the Prime Minister of Egypt and made him the honoured means of saving countless human lives. His history is one of the most pleasing and instructive in the Bible. It is too beautiful to be summarised. He died at the age of a hundred and ten, B.C. 1637. The story of Joseph spans through Genesis chapters 37-50.

LESSON OUTLINE:

  1. CHARACTER AND ACHIEVEMENTS
  2. LESSONS FROM HIS LIFE

LESSON OUTLINE 1: CHARACTER AND ACHIEVEMENTS
The teacher should allow the class to discuss the character and achievements of Joseph as a youth. He should guide the class through the following points:
A. Joseph character:
i. Joseph was a young man with unwavering faith, self-control, patience, discretion and loyalty in all aspects of life.
ii. Although he was arrogant with his brothers (Genesis 37:3-11), he developed humility in Egypt (Genesis 43:30;45:1-5).
iii. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers who were jealous of him (Genesis 37:12-28).
iv. He had great faith in God (Genesis 41:14-16).
v. He had strong integrity and loyalty (Genesis 39:5-9).
vi. He believed that God would one day bring his dream to reality and did all he could to remain focused (Genesis 39:9).

B. Joseph’s achievements

i. God gave him the ability to interpret dreams (Genesis 40:5-19;41:14-28).

ii. He was made second in charge over all Egypt by Pharaoh (Genesis 41:38-45).
iii. He was certain it was not his brothers that had sent him to Egypt, but God (Genesis 50:20).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: What was it that brought the dramatic turn-around in Joseph’s life: his ability to interpret Pharaoh’s dream or divine providence?

LESSON OUTLINE 2: LESSONS FROM HIS LIFE
The teacher should ask the class to discuss the remarkable lessons youths should learn from the life of Joseph.

  1. Be humble. God sometimes bring adversities and trials into our lives to teach us humility (Genesis 37:28; Deuteronomy 8:3).
  2. God can turn into good any evil that people do against you (Genesis 50:20; Romans 8:28)
  3. Have integrity. No matter how great the temptation and fierce opposition appears, stay loyal and obedient to God (Gen. 39: 9-12; Psalm 119:11).
  4. Write down your God-given vision, dreams or plans, pray over it and be wisely guided in sharing with others (Genesis 37: 6-7; Habakkuk 2: 2-3).
  5. Focus on God, not the situation. Do not complain about your predicaments, rather, see them as an opportunity to serve others and minister wholeheartedly to their needs (Gen. 39:3-4; Phillip 2:14).
  6. Be God-dependent. Always acknowledge God as the source of your achievements and never take any credit for it (Gen. 45:8; 41:16; Prov. 3:5-6).
  7. Manage success. When God honours you with success and prosperity, you must not forget to first honour others (Gen. 45:1-5).
  8. Fully forgive. Set your heart to forgive those around you. This will heal your relationship and keep your heart free from bitterness and deep-rooted resentment from the past (Genesis 45:5-8; Ephesians 4:32).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: What is the key lessons that catch your attention from the life of Joseph?
SUMMARY: Joseph’s story and his encounter should stimulate youths to get focused, regardless of the prevailing circumstances, in the pursuance of their God-given dreams.
CONCLUSION: The Bible story of Joseph is one that teaches us to be courageous in the midst of some of life’s worst storms.
CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please do not let anything stop me on the journey to greatness.
ASSIGNMENT: Mention five (5) of the components of a godly character like Joseph with a Bible reference for each.

Understanding The Esther Generation. RCCG YAYA Manual

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please position me for greatness in life.

MEMORY VERSE: “I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and I perish, I perish” – Esther 4:16b (NKJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Esther 2:5-17
5 Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;
6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.
7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.
8 So it came to pass when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.
9 And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged to her, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her, out of the king’s house: and he preferred her and her maids unto the best place of the house of the women.
10 Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it.
11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women’s house, to know how Esther did, and what should become of her.
12 Now when every maid’s turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of there purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;)
13 Than thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king’s house.
14 In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.
15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
16 So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

INTRODUCTION
Esther, the main character in the book of Esther, was an orphan raised by her uncle, Mordecai (Esther 2:5-7). Her Hebrew name is Hadassah which means ‘myrlte’ – Rosy flower (Esther 2:7). Esther’s story and life is a case of humility, obedience, divine substitution, great favour, sacrifice and divine intervention, such that youths should learn from.

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. THE SPIRIT OF ESTHER
  2. LESSONS FROM HER LIFE

THE SPIRIT OF ESTHER
The teacher should allow the class to discuss the characters and achievements of Esther as a youth. He should guide the class through the points

A. Esther’s Character:
i. She became the queen of Persia in B.C 478, even a stranger in the land of captivity (Esther 2:17).

ii. She was a woman of faith and courage. This is evident in the way she handled the news of the death sentence resulting from Haman’s fury (Esther 4:16).
iii. She portrayed a selfless and sacrificial character that stood in the gap for her helpless kinsmen. She was willing to give her life in an attempt to save the Jews (Esther 4:16b).
iv. She was not driven with Zeal but rather, her faith in God gave her confidence.

Esther’s achievements:
i. Esther prayed, fasted and made the great sacrifice (Esther 5:1-4).

ii. She saved the Jews from the massacre planned by Harman (Esther 8:3-13).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The teacher should ask the youths if they can take such a risk in the context of ‘if I perish, I perish in order to achieve an uncommon goal.

LESSONS FROM HER LIFE

The teacher should ask the class to discuss the remarkable lessons youths should learn from the life of Esther
A. Esther was from the ‘less privileged’ family group in Persia (Esther 2:21). Yet, she did not write herself off.
B. She contested for the position of a queen with everyone else, even as a foreigner.
C. Do not look down on yourself (1Tim. 4:12; Titus 2:15). You can do all thing through the power of the Holy Spirit in you (Phillip 4:13, 2Cor. 12:9).
D. Moreover:

  1. Esther became popular for being a resourceful and confident problem solver (Esther 8:3-13). Youths should not see themselves as weaklings, dependent and liabilities (Phillip 2:13, 4:13). They must be bold to face the challenges of life (Prov 28:1)
  2. Esther was obedient to a godly leader. Esther obeyed Mordecai in detail. Experienced godly leaders and matured Christian mentors are needed in the journey of life (Esther 4:13-16; 1Cor. 11:1)
  3. Just as Esther used the correct manner of approach to gain the attention and favour of the King, youths should also approach God or their leaders rightly to gain attention and favour (Psalm 100:4; Proverbs 24:3). God’s favour is highly required for breakthrough (Esther 2:9,17).
  4. When we need help, God is more than willing to help us if we ask him rightly (Isaiah 41:13, James 4:3). Faith and courage will often bring to us the things that we need (Matthew 21:22).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: What are you doing presently to be outstanding in your academics, career, business, sports ministry, youth fellowship, etc?

SUMMARY: The spirit of Esther is a dogged attempt to achieve an uncommon goal in the midst of difficult circumstances.
CONCLUSION: Regardless of your family or socio-economic background, God can make a great person out of you.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please give me the courage to achieve an uncommon goal in my generation.

ASSIGNMENT: When you find yourself in a leadership position, what are the five (5) germane issues you will address as a Christian youth?

Proven Ways Of Dealing With Addictions.

Ways Of Dealing With Addictions. 2/05/2021

BIBLE PASSAGE: Proverbs 31:1-7 (NKJV)
1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
MEMORY VERSE: “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are.

lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” 1 Corinthians 6:12 (NKJV).

LESSON INTRODUCTION

Addiction is a compulsive tendency developed over a period of continuous and repeated actions or exposures to a certain substance. People with addiction use substances or engage in behaviours that become compulsive and often continue despite harmful consequences. Addiction leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. Today, many youths are suffering from different forms of addiction. What is the way out?

TEXT REVIEW: Proverbs 31:2-7.
In this passage, king Lemuel reiterates his mother’s utterances:
A. The mother had warned her son, who is now a king-v2.
i. Against addiction to women. -v3a.
ii. Against things that destroy kings. -v3b.
iii. Against.
B. She emphasised the likely dangers of being addicted to alcohol:

iv. . …………………………………….. v7

LESSON OUTLINES

LESSON OUTLINE 1: TYPES AND SIGNS OF ADDICTIONS

The teacher should allow the class to discuss some types and signs of addiction common among youths and should guide the class through the following points:

A. Types of Addiction

  1. Substance addictions (Prov. 20:1; 23:29-35; Isa. 5:11-12; 28:7-8) e.g.drug abuse (cocaine, opioids-heroine, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, Tramadol, codeine, crack, inhalants, etc.), alcoholism, smoking (cigarette, tobacco, marijuana, nicotine), caffeine (coffee, coke, cola), etc.
  2. Behavioural or process addictions (1 Kings 11:4-5; Prov. 31:3; 1 Pet.4:3): This is an addiction to mood-altering behaviours such as gambling, cell
phone and social media, the internet, love and relationships, sexual activity (masturbation, sex, pornography, etc.), eating disorders, spending
shopping, watching television, video games, etc.
  3. Power addiction is a kind of addiction associated with power, influence and affluence (Prov. 28:15). People who are addicted to power tend to feel most powerful when they are dominating other people, with little patience for
anything that stands in the way of their upward path. They are often extremely competitive and have a devastating need to be right. Examples are King Saul (1 Sam. 19:1; 8-10) and King Hezekiah (Isa. 39:1-8).

B. SIGNS OF ADDICTIONS: Some signs of addiction may include:
i. Developing a strong desire to use substances.
i. Engaging in the problematic behaviour
iii. Appearing dirty.
iv. Inability to fulfil obligations at school, work or home.
v. Previously enjoyed hobbies are abandoned in favour of use of substances
vi. Withdrawal symptoms.
vii. A person with power addiction may experience obsession, extreme restlessness and in extreme cases, may resort to irrational, destructive behaviour such as manipulation or bribery to achieve goals and maintain the
‘high’.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Mention other forms of addiction not in the list above.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE WAY OUT

The teacher should ask the class to discuss possible ways of breaking free from addiction.

  1. Take a stand.
    a. You must, first of all, acknowledge that addiction is an affliction and you are already caught up in its web.
    b. Then, you must be willing to break free from it’s bondage while acknowledging that you cannot help yourself (Ps. 51:1-4).
  2. Seek help (James 5:13-16).
    a. You must open up to God (Prov. 3:4-5; 1 Pet. 5:7) and to people who can be of help in breaking the evil habit.
    b. Surrender yourself for proper screening and therapies (pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy and spiritual therapy).
  3. Avoid relapse. Relapse is to addiction what backsliding is to sin and its episode is usually worse than before the treatment/deliverance (Matt.12:43-45; 2Pet. 2:20-22).
  4. Keep your heart with all diligence (Prov. 4:23) and renew it daily (Rom.12:1-2; Eph. 4:22-23). Addiction is really a battle of the mind.
  5. You must avoid exposure to all forms of triggers (1 Cor.15:33; 2 Cor. 6:15-20; Eph. 5:11-12).
  6. Keep the company of those who can encourage you in your journey to total victor
  7. It is incumbent on the brethren not to cast away the victim at this critical time (Ps. 38:11) but to show him/her love and encouragement until the victory is won (2 Tim. 1:15-16; Ps.133:1-3).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: What counsel will you give to a youth that is struggling with a form of addiction?

SUMMARY: There are several types of addictions with obvious signs among youths. The good news is that those caught in the web can be freed with the help of God.

CONCLUSION: Withdrawal from addiction often comes with a myriad of challenges usually referred to as withdrawal syndrome. You can overcome with the help of God.

EVALUATION: The teacher should ask students to mention the types of addiction known to them.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please keep me free from any form of ungodly addiction.

ASSIGNMENT: Write five (5) of the dangers of addiction.

Beware Of Seductions. RCCG YAYA Student Manual

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please let me not be a stumbling block to others in the faith.
BIBLE PASSAGE: Proverbs 7:4-27
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

Please, scroll down for STUDENT MANUAL
6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:
10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
12 Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
14 I have peace offerings with me; this day have I paid my vows.
15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
19 For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
20 He hath taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the day appointed.
21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22 He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23 Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

MEMORY VERSE: “It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.” Romans 14:21 (NKJV).

LESSON INTRODUCTION

Seduction is the process of deliberately enticing a person to engage in a relationship or to lead astray from duty, morality and the like. Also, it could be an attempt to corrupt, persuade or induce into engaging in sexual behaviour that is enticing someone to desire to have sex with the other by doing things that make sex appealing and desirable. There is also a relationship between sexual seduction and dressing, of which every Christian youth must beware.

LESSON OUTLINES
LESSON OUTLINE 1: SOME SEDUCTIVE TOOLS
The teacher should allow the class to discuss some things that can trigger sexual desire, especially among youths. He should guide the class through the following points:
A. David committed adultery because he saw the nakedness of Bathsheba while she was bathing (2 Sam.11:1-4).
B. Sexual lust is induced when people who are promiscuous use nakedness to lure careless ones to unwholesome desires (Prov.7:10-13).
C. This is the same as using pornographic films, magazines or dresses to display acts and images which make people sexually excited (Job 31:1).
D. Some other tools that could be adopted for sexual seduction include fragrance, dance, body language, voice tone, etc. (Prov 7:12-15).
E. A true Christian must desist from all such things (1Thess.5:22).
i. It is a terrible offence before God to desire to see other people’s nakedness (Matt 5:28).
ii. Only insane people walk the streets naked without any feeling of shame because their understanding is darkened (Eph. 4:18)

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Discuss how you have been or are being seduced.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: DRESS WITH CAUTION
The teacher should ask the class to discuss the purpose of dressing and teach the following:
A. When the purpose of a thing is unknown, abuse is inevitable.
B. God was the first to dress man when man was not ‘well dressed (Gen.3:7, 21).
C. The primary purpose of dress is to cover nakedness.
D. Some dresses that are only good for the bedrooms should not be worn on the streets.
E. Commercial sex workers are known for certain dressing styles to boost their trade.
F. Christian youths should not take to such forms of dressing in the name of modernisation (Prov.7:10). Because:
i. This has led to the harassment of many youths
ii. There is a strong relationship between what we see and what we think (James 1:14).
iii. Therefore, your dressing must not induce unrighteous thoughts in others (1 Cor. 14:40; Rom.14:21).
G. There is a two-fold responsibility on the dressing.
i. The man is responsible to guard his eyes against impurity (Phil 4:8; Job 31:1);
ii. The woman is responsible to dress decently and avoiding exposing sensitive parts of her body (Prov.7:6-27; 2Sam.11:2).
iii. This principle is also applicable in reversed order.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The class should discuss what constitutes indecent dressing among youths and the reasons for such action.

SUMMARY: Youths should not allow themselves to be caught in the web of seduction or by an agent, especially through the indecent dressing.

CONCLUSION: Any form of dressing likely to excite people sexually should not be worn by Christian youth, especially in public places (Phil.4:5; 1 Cor.8:13).

EVALUATION: The teacher should ask the students to mention some tools used for sexual seduction.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please help me in the fight against sexual seductions and shield me against sexual seductions.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention the names of five (5) of contemporary dressing styles that can provoke seduction.

13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.
14 And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.
15 And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?

LESSON OUTLINE 1: THE IMPORTANCE OF COURTSHIP: Secluded and tempting place

(2 Cor

2:11; 1 Thess.5:22).
A. Discussion should cover their dreams, visions, the purpose for living, plans, fears, health status/history and past relationships (if any).
B. Intending couples should endeavour to discover each other’s strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, differences (upbringing/orientation, cultural background), etc. through observation and by asking questions.
C. Intending couples should be open and sincere with each other in all aspects of their dealings (financial status, source of income, etc.).
D. There should be no pretence or deception (stage management of character).
E. It is also expedient that Intending couples undertake marriage counselling lessons together during courtship (Proverbs 11:14).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Discuss the dangers of ‘dating’ and the reasons Christian youths should avoid it.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: RED FLAGS TO WATCH OUT FOR

The teacher should explain to the class that ‘red flags’ are danger signs that connote ‘no go areas. He should then guide the discussion as follows:

A. There are a number of “red flags” to watch out for before entering a permanent marriage relationship.
B. Unfortunately, these indicators may not be visible until after the wedding takes place since some Christians are skilled at hiding their true natures or changing with circumstances.

C. However, a shortlist of things to look out for includes irrational jealousy, deception, the strive to be in control (dominate the other partner), physical or emotional abuse/violence, a quick (hot) temper, cruelty towards adherence to unscriptural traditional values, attempts to isolate the other person from his or her friends and family, a show of dislike for would-be in-laws, defiance to spiritual matters, drug or alcohol abuse, smoking, disrespect for boundaries, privacy/personal space or low moral values.

D. If you see any of these warning signs or other strange behaviours in the person you are entering a marriage relationship with, please pray and seek
advice from your spiritual leader or marriage counsellor before you say ‘I DO’. (Mk.14:38; Prov.15:22; 19:20).
E. Marriage should not be viewed as a ‘do or die’ affair. You have a destiny to fulfil (Jer 29:11). You may consider the saying that a broken courtship is better than a broken marriage’ and make a wise/informed decision. (Eccl.10:10; 1 Cor.7:15b).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Share with the class some strange behaviours you noticed in your intending partner (if you are engaged) and what you are doing or have done about it.

SUMMARY: It is important that Christian youths observe courtship (not dating) in a godly manner and watch out for ‘red flags’ before taking the vow of ‘I do’.

CONCLUSION: Watch and pray before you say “I DO”

EVALUATION: The teacher should ask the students to mention some of the red flags to watch out for before you say ‘I do’.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please help me through my courtship period and make my marriage heaven on earth.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five of the issues that Christian youth should not compromise or overlook while preparing for marriage

The Christian Missionary. RCCG Sunday School Manual

MEMORY VERSE: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” – Mark 16:15

BIBLE PASSAGE: Matthew 28:19-20 KJV
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

INTRODUCTION: The business of missions includes the Almighty God, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and the Church. The mission is a must and all real Christians should be interested.

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. Christian Missions And Home Support
  2. You Can Be Personally Involved

#1 CHRISTIAN MISSIONS AND HOME SUPPORT

Missionaries are those Christians sent across geographical and cultural boundaries to proclaim the gospel. The take-off point is usually from an established body of Christ. It automatically follows, therefore, that the upkeep of the missionary there is the sole responsibility of other members of the body at home. It is written that if a member suffers, other members suffer (1 Corinthians 12:26-26). Christians are supposed to be co-labourers together with God (1 Corinthians J:8-9). Support in prayers and provision of physical needs for the missionaries on the field are the responsibilities of Christians at home. This is missions by proxy. There, on the mission field, it is expected of the missionary to concentrate in order to achieve the purpose for which God has sent him or her (Matthew 6:20-21). Any distractions whatsoever may hinder the speed of his or her primary assignments, Hence, the need for active and prompt home support.

2. YOU CAN BE PERSONALLY INVOLVED

The woman of Shunem in her spiritual perception found out the man of God (2 Kings 4:8-10). God needed a place for the man of God to lay his head, Both she and her husband agreed to make a chamber for the man of God and put there some essential things needed by him. Apostle Paul commended the Macedonian and Philippian churches for submitting themselves to the will of God and giving their substances for the cause of the gospel (2 Corinthians 11:3; Philippians 4:15-19). Similarly, Priscilla and Aquila, a wonderful Christian couple, were also helpers of Apostle Paul (Romans 16:3-4).
It is obvious that not all born again Christians can be out there on the mission field but all can be involved either directly or by proxy. If you cannot go, you can give and/or groan (pray) in support of missions.

CONCLUSION: God is still calling today, whosoever is willing should respond. You can decide to begin to support a missionary, at least.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Give biblical support for missions and home support.
  2. What is peculiar about the Macedonian and Philippians churches in relation to missions?

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five things that may discourage people from going into the mission field or becoming a missionary.

Self-Cleansing. RCCG Sunday School Manual.

Memory Verse: “having, therefore, these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God”.

Bible Passage: 2 Corinthians 7:1

Introduction
God’s desire is that his people will be cleansed outwardly and inwardly. (Zechariah 3:4). He loves those whose hearts and lives are perfect towards Him and has made adequate provision for their all-around cleansing. (Hebrews 10:22). In Psalm 51:2 David prayed for God’s cleansing. We also have a crucial role to play in this matter.

Outlines

  1. Self-cleansing and its benefits
  2. How can a man cleanse himself?

Self-cleansing and its benefits
Self-Cleansing is a conscious and decisive effort put in by man to purge himself from all filthiness (2 Corinthians 1:7) in order to become whole and acceptable to God, through the help of the Holy Spirit. It involves the thorough sanitation of a life whose filth has been revealed through the mirror of God’s word.

It is a renewal of one’s mind (Romans 12:2). It is putting away evil deeds. (Is 1:16), the wickedness of the heart and impure thoughts (Jeremiah 4:14). It is giving no room for sin in one’s life. (Romans 6:12).

Self-cleansing makes us honourable and useful vessels (2 Timothy 2:21). It is essential for those that have the hope of eternal life with Jesus (1 John 3:3). It provides a platform to appear before God blameless and to obtain answers to prayers. (Hebrews 10:22, Hebrews 4:6).

How can a man cleanse himself?

It is absolutely true that we are purged and cleansed through the shed blood of our Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 9:14, 22). However, the Bible raises a fundamental question in Psalms 119:9 “wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?” The bible also provides the answer, “…by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”

Having identified the grey areas in your life, “take heed thereto” necessary adjustments and make changes to show that you fear God. Lay aside weights and besetting sins (Hebrews 12:1). Steer clear of the appearances of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22). Wash thoroughly in the water of God’s word (Ephesians 5:26, Ezekiel 36:25). Mortify the deeds of the flesh (Romans 8:13, Colossians 3:5) – and draw near to God. (James 4:8).

Conclusion

God is looking for a clean and pure vessel. You can be available for His use by cleansing yourself.

Sweet Sleep. RCCG Sunday School Manual Students

Memory Verse: “The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much, but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.” –Ecl. 5:12

Bible Passage: Proverbs 3: 21-24

Introduction
Sleep is a state of natural muscle relaxation and periodic suspension of consciousness (reduced interaction with surroundings). Like everything else God has made, sleep is good and also be greatly abused. Can we sleep too much, too little, and how important is sleep?

Outlines

  1. What does the bible say about sleep?
  2. Why is sleep important?

What does the bible say about sleep?

The Bible says good sleep is the result of faith and trust in God. (Psalm 4:8, 127: 2) . Sweet sleep is a reward for good labour. (Ecl. 5:12, Prov. 3:24). Also, Sleep is one of the media through which God communicates with man. (1 Kings 3:5). However, the Bible says it is not good to love sleep (Prov. 20:13); sleep too much (Prov. 6:9-11); sleep at the wrong time (Ecl 3:1; Matt 26:40-46); deprive oneself of sleep for the inordinate ambitious pursuit of wealth (Ecl. 8:16, Psalm 127: 1-2). Sleep is sometimes portrayed as a gift from God in passages such as Prov. 3:24 and Psalms 4:8.

Why sleep is important

Sleep is a good thing. One possible explanation for our need for sleep is that sleep reminds us that we are creatures, not the creator. One physical body must be constantly replenished with food, water, oxygen, and sleep in order to continue functioning. We know that sleeping is part of being a healthy person because Jesus had to sleep just like we do. (Luke 8:23, Mark 1:35). Sleep is a basic human need and is essential for good health, boosts memory, aid the body system against infections, replenishes the body, and improves immune functions. It is also essential for good quality of life and performing well during the day. (better productivity and concentration).

Sometimes, God spoke to people while they sleep through dreams and visions (Mattew 2:13, 1 kings 3:5). Too much sleep,  however, is bad. (Prov. 10:5).

Conclusion: Sleeping at the right time and in the right proportion is good for the health of every believer.

Spiritual Awakening. RCCG Sunday School Manual.

Memory Verse: Therefore, let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober”- 1 Thessalonians 5:6
Bible Passage: 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-8

Introduction

Scripturally, sleep could either be cause

d naturally (Prov. 3:24), or supernaturally (Gen. 2:21). Sleep is also used as a figurative expression of death (John 11:11-13), spiritual weakness or Lukewarmness (Eph. 5:14). Spiritual sleep is considered dangerous for any believer. This calls for spiritual awakening, i.e. waking up from spiritual sleep.

OUTLINES

  1. Signs And Dangers of Spiritual Sleep
  2. Remedies For Spiritual Sleep

  1. Signs And Dangers Of Spiritual Sleep

There are signs of indicators of spiritual sleep that every believer should watch out for, When you notice that you are: more interested in the things of the world or vigorously pursuing wealth (1 John 2:15; Ecl 5:10); manifesting more of the works of the flesh (Gal 5: 19-21); not hungry for spiritual food (Colossians 3:15-16); no longer impacted by the word of God (Isaiah 6:9-10; Jeremiah 15:16) ; no longer praying or hearing the voice of God (Romans 11:7-8); no longer thirsty for righteousness (Mattew 5:8). In addition, you may be sleeping spiritually when you think you do not need to learn (Proverb 18:2; Galatians 6:3); pursuing fame or self-glory (Jeremiah 45:5); unmindful of danger (Judges 16: 16-25; Jonah 1:3-5); lack commitment in spiritual relationships with spiritually-minded Christians (Hebrew 10:25).

If you are asleep spiritually, you cannot discern spiritual matters (1 Corinthians 2:11-14, Proverbs 29:18). By implication you cannot see, you cannot get (Genesis 13: 14-18; Mattew 13:24-30) and sudden destruction (Acts 20:9-12, Judges 4:17-21). You will become weak (Judges 16:20) and bring disappointment (2 Timothy 4:10). You can miss a divine appointment (Mattew 25:1-12).

  1. Remedies for Spiritual Sleep

The bible calls for spiritual awakening, especially for believers that are slumbering for believers that are slumbering or already asleep in spiritual matters (Romans 13:11). Why should and how can such believers wake up?

One clear reason for spiritual awakening is the nearness of the second coming of Jesus Christ (Romans 13: 11b; Mattew 24: 42-44). Believers should also note that we are children of light and of ‘the day’ and not of ‘the night’ nor of darkness. (1 Thessalonians 5:5). To enjoy the true light in Christ, those that are sleeping spiritually must wake up (Ephesians 5:14).

Another reason to awake from spiritual sleep is to receive deliverance from the snare of the devil (2 Timothy 2: 26). Believers should wake up spiritually because we are in the season of harvest of souls into God’s kingdom (Luke 10:2). Also, it is a time of war and the enemy is wide awake (Mattew 13:25, 1 Peter 5:8).

1 Corinthians 15:34 charges every believer to awake to righteousness, strive to know God and stop sinning. If you claim to be a believer in Christ, you must constantly check your lifestyle habits to know whether you are slumbering or sleeping spiritually (2 Corinthians 13:5; Luke 21:34). Watch and pray constantly in order to remain spiritually alert (Luke 21:36; Mattew 26:41).

Conclusion

Learn to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit in order not to sleep spiritually. If you are already sleeping, wake up!

Retaliation. RCCG Sunday School Manual.

MEMORY VERSE: “Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.” – Leviticus 19:18

BIBLE PASSAGE: Romans 12:17-21

17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good.

INTRODUCTION: Retaliation is a violent response to an act of harm or perceived injustice. To retaliate is to do something harmful or negative, to get revenge for some harm; to fight back or respond in kind to an injury or affront. Both the Hebrew and Greek words translated “vengeance”, revenge, and avenge” have the idea of punishment in there root meaning. The question of non-retaliation or non-violence is often discussed in relation to Matthew 5:38-44.

LESSON OUTLINES:

  1. What Does The Bible Say About Retaliation?
  2. The Proper Christian Action

1. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT RETALIATION?

The Bible has much to say about retaliation (revenge, avenge or vengeance) that contradicts everything that feels right to many people (Isaiah 55:9). For instance, in Romans 12:19, believers are not expected to pay back any evil done against them. Proverbs 25:21-22 and Romans 12:20 admonish us not to stoop low to the level of the offender. Believers should learn not to join their offenders in their errors (Romans 12:21; Matthew 5:39). Hebrews 10:30 also teaches us not to take matters out of God’s hands and insist on fixing things ourselves.

2. THE PROPER CHRISTIAN ACTION

Matthew 5:38-44 serve to drive home the point that a Christian, rather than avenging himself upon a brother who has done him a personal wrong should love his enemies, bless those that curse him, do good to those that hate him, and pray for those who despitefully use and persecute him. Self-vengeance has no place in the Christian life; we should allow God to bring His vengeance on our enemies rather than taking vengeance ourselves (Romans 12:19).
As believers, we must resist the impulse to retaliate but rather live at peace with all men as much as possible (Romans 12:18). Our job as Christians is to forgive, not retaliate (Luke 6:27-31). when we follow God’s commands to love, forgive, and do well to those who wrong us (Matthew 5:44), we can trust that our Defender will do what is right (Psalm 20:1; Zechariah 12:8). We can also set healthy boundaries in destructive relationships (2 Corinthians 6:17; Proverbs 22:24; Ezra 10:11) and make our ways pleasing unto God (Proverbs 16:7).

CONCLUSION: The scripture enjoins us to live peaceably with all men as much as possible. Romans 12:18.

  1. Is retaliation scriptural?
  2. Should believers retaliate for wrongs done against them?

There Is No Purgatory. RCCG Sunday School. 09/08/2021.

Memory Verse: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”. –Heb. 9:27.

Bible Passage: 2 Cor. 5:6-8.

Introduction
Some church denominations believe that all who die in God’s grace and friendship but are still imperfectly purified are indeed assured of their eternal salvation but will undergo the process of purification which they call purgatory, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. According to them, a purgatory is also a place or condition of punishment for those who, departing this life in God’s grace, are not entirely free from forgivable fault, or have not fully paid the price due to their transgressions. Is this doctrine of Purgatory in agreement with the Bible? Absolutely not!

The doctrine of purgatory was falsely formulated by reference to biblical verses that speak of purifying fire (1 Cor. 3:15) and 1 Peter 1:7), and to the mention by Jesus of “forgiveness in the age to come” (Mattew12:32). The analogy made in 1 Cor. 3: 11-15) affects only believers that have made it to heaven and are awaiting their rewards at the judgment seat of Christ. Sinners or unbelievers are not included here, they go straight to hell.

The eternal destination of everyone is determined instantly after death (2 Cor. 5:6-8), Apostle Paul wrote that believers are “builders” whose quality of works, on the foundation of Christ, shall be tested “By fire” on the Day of Judgment (2 Cor. 5:10), 1 Cor. 3:11-15) does not say that believers pass through the fire for cleansing. Rather, it is the believer’s works that will pass through the fire. Fire, in this context, is symbolic, of the test of motive or objectivity behind the believer’s works.

The statement made by Jesus”…it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come” (Matt. 12:32). Was a proverbial expression among the Jews for a thing that will never be done? This scripture does not paint a picture of a chance of forgiveness of sins after death. God’s wrath shall overtake any sinner who refuses to genuinely repent before death (Ps. 9:17, Matt. 13: 49-50). Hence, it is baseless to pray to God for forgiveness on behalf of the dead.

#2. DEBUNKING THE WRONG CONCEPT

Purgatory, like many other heretical beliefs, is based on a misunderstanding of the nature of Christ’s sacrifice. The proponents of purgatory fail to understand that Jesus’ once and for all sacrifice was absolutely and perfectly sufficient. (Hebrews 7:27). They view meritorious works as contributing to salvation due to a failure to recognize that Jesus’ sacrificial payment has no need for additional “contribution” (Ecl. 2:8-9).

Similarly, Purgatory is understood by them as a piece of cleansing in preparation for heaven because they do not recognize that because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we are already cleansed (1 john1:21, 14). They also base their teaching on the practice of praying for the dead because they fail to recognize that Jesus’ death was sufficient to pay the penalty for ALL of our sins.

Jesus who was GOD incarnate (John 1:1, 14) paid an infinite price for our sin. Jesus died for our sins. (1 Cor. 15:3). Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 2:2; Romans 5:8; Is 53:5). The idea that we have to suffer for our sins after death is contrary to everything the Bible says about salvation.

CONCLUSION
There is no basis for purgatory in the Bible. Therefore, make your way right before you die.

End Time Prophesies. RCCG Sunday School Manual.

Memory Verse: But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements, shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the workthat are therein shall be burned up”. 2 Peter 3: 10.

Bible Passage: Is. 13: 6-22.

Introduction

The event usually referred to as “the end of the world” (escathon) is described in 2 Peter 3:10; this is the culmination of a series of events called “The day of the Lord”. The Bible has alot to say about the end times. Nearly every book of the Bible contains prophesy regarding the end times. Taking all of these prophesies and organizing them can be difficult. Following is a brief summary of what the Bible declares will happen in the end times.

Outlines

  1. From Rapture To The Great Tbulation
  2. The Millennial Reign To The End

From Rapture To The Great Tribulation
Christ will remove all born-again believers from the earth in an event known as the “rapture” ( 1 Thess. 4: 13-18; 1 Cor. 15:51-54). At the judgment seat of Christ, these believers will be rewarded for good works and faithful service during there time on earth or will loose rewards, but not eternal life, for lack of service and obedience. (1 Cor. 3:11-15; 2 Cor. 5:10).

The Antichrist (the beast) will come into power and will sign a covenant with Isreal for seven years (Daniel 9:27). This seven-year period of time is known as the “tribulation”. During the tribulation, there will be a terrible war, famine, plagues, and natural disasters. God will be pouring out His wrath against sin, evil and wickedness.

About halfway through the seven years, the Antichrist will break the peace covenant with Israel and make war against it. The Antichrist will commit “the abomination of desolation” and set up an image of himself to be worshipped in Jerusalem temple. (Dan. 9:27; 2 Thess. 2:3-10) which will have been rebuilt. The second half of the tribulation is known as “the great tribulation” (Rev. 7:14) and “the time of Jacob’s trouble” (Jer. 30:7).

The Millennial Reign To The End

At the end of the seven-year tribulation, the Antichrist will launch a final attack on Jerusalem, culminating in the “battle of Armageddon” (Rev. 16:16; 19:19-20). Jesus Christ will return, destroy the Anti-Christ and his armies, and cast them into the lake of fire (Rev. 19:11-21). Christ will rule his earthly kingdom for this thousand-year period (Rev. 20:1-6).

At the end of the thousand years, Satan will be released and will deceive many. He will be defeated again and then cast into the lake of fire. (Rev. 20:7-9) for eternity. Christ then judges all unbelievers at the great white throne judgment, casting them into the lake of fire. Death hell will also be cast into the Lake of fire. (Rev. 20:10-15).

Christ will then usher in a new heaven and new earth and the New Jerusalem- the eternal dwelling place of believers. There will be no more sin, sorrow, or death. (Rev. 21-22)

Conclusion

The knowledge of these end-time events is for believers to be well prepared.

The Essence Of Praise. RCCG Sunday School. 5/09/2021

The Essence Of Praise. RCCG Sunday School. 5/09/2021

Memory Verse: “I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart, I will shew forth all thy marvellous works”- Psalm 9:1.
Bible Passage: Psalm 67: 3-7.

Introduction

In our day-to-day dealing with ourselves, thanksgiving and praises are considered very important especially when we receive any help from anyone. This show of appreciation usually acts as an impetus to receiving similar assistance or gift in future. We as Christians should know that God who is our Father loves us even more than our earthly father does.

The only thing we can do in order to show our appreciation is by praising Him no matter the circumstances that come on our way. We must cultivate the habit of praising God and thanking Him all the days of our lives. The first principle a Christian should learn, should be how to develop the habit of praising God. (Psalm 105:1-3).

OUTLINES

  1. Why should we praise God?
  2. Accepted Praise

Why Should we praise God?

If we want our lives to be full of miracles and wonders, it is necessary for us to know that the formula is in praising God. The attributes of God are sufficient reasons for us to praise him. That is one reason the angels praise God continually. (Is. 6:3). God’s holiness is linked with His Glory, He is glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders (Ex. 15:11).

When we praise God, we have victories over our enemies(Ps. 18:3). We should praise God for His goodness and His wonderful works (Psalms 107:8). If we praise God, He will take note and this will gladden His Heart (Psalm 22:3). God is righteous and His righteousness demands that we should praise Him. (Psalm 7:17).

God is a jealous God and His jealousy demands that we must show His sovereignty over all things by praising him (Ex. 34:14). He is the only One and demands for Himself alone worship and praisers to which He has a right. (Ex. 20: 3-4). Praise is an acceptable sacrifice before God. (Heb. 13:15).

Dangers of Ingratitude

Ingratitude is the result of vain imagination and a darkened heart. Sometimes your thanksgiving is senseless to the ordinary person but it is more profitable to be thankful than to grumble or complain. (Romans 1:12; Prov. 15:8). There are several reasons people are ungrateful to God. Sin or spiritual blindness (Eph. 4:17-18). Refusal to take account of what God has done (Romans 1:21), Pride (Acts 12:21-23).

Every act of ingratitude comes with its attendant danger. Risk of losing the existing blessing, salvation and Heaven (Matt. 25: 24,5,30). Limiting one’s blessing or answered prayers (Luke 17:12;16:19). It could result in emptiness and sorrow(Proverbs 15:13;17:22) thereby, making restoration practically difficult.

Conclusion

Showing gratitude to God ensures continuous divine presence and fellowship.

Knowing God’s Will For Marriage. RCCG Sunday School Manual.

Memory Verse: “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing and obtaineth favour of the LORD”– Prov. 18:22.

Bible Passage: Genesis 24:1-19.

Introduction

Marriage is the intimate union or legal relationship between a husband and wife that should last for a lifetime (Genesis 2:21-23). The steps taken before going on the journey are very important to prevent pitfalls. In knowing God’s will, therefore, you do not have to rely on vague feelings and strange rituals. As a child of God, you have his Word, His Spirit within you and His ministers to guide you and counsel you.

OUTLINES

RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD FIRST

Marriage is a creation of God. It all started with Him (Genesis 2;18). God will only guide His own (Jeremiah 10:23). He wants us to know and do His will and He is actively involved in revealing it. Therefore, before seeking God’s will for marriage, develop a relationship with Him (ps. 119:130; Ps. 119:105). You must not live your life in fear but in fellowship with God (2 Timothy 1:7). Develop your God-given gift and master how God deals with or guides your steps (Psalms 85:8; Psalms 37:23). Discover your purpose through a relationship with Jesus Christ (John 18:37). This will reduce stress, give your life meaning and prepare you for eternity (2Peter 1;3-4). You must be found working in His will (vineyard) like Adam and have a source of income (Genesis 2:15-18) because marriage is not for lazy people.

Pre-marital Counsel

God does not want His children to be joined with unbelievers (2 Cor.:14-16; 1 Cor. 6:15-17). How then do we recognise God’s will in marriage?

  1. Through the word of God (Prov. 3:5-7). God has placed His word in our hands so we could have a more objective set of guidelines to follow than dreams, feelings and impulses. Despite your dreams and conviction, pray to have a scriptural backing (Prov. 18:22, Genesis 2:22; Prov. 19:14).
  2. God will work in you to do His will. He will use circumstances and situations to perfect His will for your life (Romans 8:28; Phil. 2:12-13). You must, therefore, remain sensitive, paying attention to doors He opens and closes to direct your path.
  3. Through the council of elders or spiritual heads in the church (Psalms 1:1; Prov. 19:21; Prov. 11:14; Prov. 15:22; Acts 1:24; Titus 2:3-5). Do not let the passion for sex, peer/parental pressure, age, poverty etc influence your hasty decision. At such sensitive moments, do not despise godly counsel from spiritual heads (Prov. 14:29b; Is. 52:12).
  4. The environment you are in and the friends you keep may also influence your choice. Therefore, keep company with only believers of like passion (1 Cor. 15:33).
  5. Pray fervently. You need to keep the channel of communication with God open, especially by praying without ceasing. This will key you to the mind of God concerning who and when to marry (1 Cor. 2:9-11).

CONCLUSION

Let God lead you in the choice of your marriage partner.

The Glory Of The Youth. RCCG Sunday School Manual.

Memory Verse: “The glory of young men is their strength, and the beauty of old men is the grey head”- Proverb 20:29.

Bible Passage: Ecl. 12:1-8.

Introduction

The youthful stage is the period of human life between childhood and full adulthood. It is a state of being young. This is the period of human life where everyone can exercise strength to the fullest of their capacity. The way you live as a youth will determine what will become of you at old age. In Ecclesiastes 12:1, the Bible says “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say “I have no pleasure in them”.

OUTLINES

  1. Characteristics and biblical examples of a glorious youth
  2. Maximizing your youthful strength.

CHARACTERISTICS AND BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF A GLORIOUS YOUTH

Glorious youths aren’t common people because they use their strength to achieve greater results in their time. the word STRENGHT goes beyond physical power and emotional toughness. It is the totality of raw potentials given by God to fulfill specific purpose or to perform an assignment on earth (Jer. 1;5). This strength brings out the Glory in a youth (1 Sam. 16:18). Yor potentials are your strength in life. If you want to saor higher in life, you must identify your potential and build your strength on it. Glorious youths are people who are willing to learn and act on what they have have been thought (2 Timothy 2:1-2). They have big dreams which they pursue relentlessly until they are fulfilled (Gen 42:9). They are zealous and use their zeal creatively for the peace and progress of the nations (1 Sam. 17:32). they are people of great reputation (Gen. 39:9). Glorious youths are very creative and innovative in their chosen career (2 Chro. 2:14).

Youths in the Bible did exploits and records of their works are noted for us to emulate today. Some of them include: Joseph (Gen. 41: 38-46), David (1 Sam. 17:19-37). Shadrack, Meschack amnd Abednego (Daniel 3: 16-18), Mary (Luke 1: 27-28), Timothy (2 Timothy 1:2-5) and jesus (Luke 2: 42-52).These are examples of young people who did not wait until they were all grown up to serve God. They were not the future. They were present. They made a huge impact in the world in their youth.

By the standard of the Bible, Christian youths are spiritually endowed to take the lead and subdue nations for Christ anywhere they find themselves in the world. Youths are to be in the forefront of revolutions (both physical and spiritual) in this time and age. Youths are to take control of every sector of leadership and economy of the world. Christian youths need to behave like the children , who understands the time and season.

MAXIMIZING YOUR YOUTHFUL STRENGHT

The major pre-equisite to serve God effectively in your youth is to give your life to Christ with no reservation. There are many areas of strength that every youth must harness and maximise for the kingdom’s profitability. Here are some of them:

I. Speech: Talk in a way that honours God (Eph. 4:25-29). Stop telling lies; only use words that are true because God is truthful (Eph. 4: 25-29). Use words that are gentle (Prov. 15:1). Gentleness means to remain calm and kind, even when you are angry. Do not shout or use harsh words. Use words that are pure. No cursing or use of dirty words. Use words that are loving. Do not hurt people with your words nor talk about them behind their back. Use your words to encourage, teach, comfort, give good advice and build them up in the way of the Lord (Eph. 4:29).

2. Life: Imitate Christ with your actions (1 John 2:6). Read your Bible every day so that you can learn what Christ is like. You cannot act like Chirst if you do not know what He is like. Obey God’s word whenever you read the Bible. Also. in every situation in life, ask yourself ” What would Jesus do?”, and then do it.

3. Love: Do everything with love. Being a Christian is all about love. Jesus said the greatest commandment is love (Mattew 22:37-40; 1 Cor. 16:14). Let love be your highest goal. If you want to serve God in your youth, then, do everything with love. Make your life all about love (John 3:16).

#4. Faith: Have unwavering confidence in God. Faith is confidence in God, that He is who He says he is and will do what He says He will do. (Heb. 11:1). The best and perhaps the only way to set an example of unwavering faith is in the face of trials. Trials are faith tests. When the storms of life hit. Do not get angry with Him (Romans 8:28).

#5 Purity: Strive for total sexual purity. God’s will for our sexuality is to keep all sexual activity in marriage- visual, mental, emotional, and physical. This applies to single people and married people (1 Thess. 4;3-5; Romans 12:1-2).

CONCLUSION: God wants you to serve Him in your youth by duly committing yourself to Him (Proverbs 3:5-8). Do not wait for adulthood. Rather, begin right. The best way to start serving god is by setting an example for others to follow. Be an exemplary Christian. Set an example of a fully-devoted Christian, and God will use you in a mighty way.

Bible Passage: Colossians 4:5-6.

INTRODUCTION

Hundreds of millions of people are becoming increasingly interested in social networking sites to enjoy and maximise the relational opportunities of these sites. Are these networking sites the next big mission field or an enormous waste of time? Should a Christian participate in social networking? The answer to these questions should be determined by whether we can honestly ask God to bless and use our actions for His own good purposes (1 Cor. 10:31).

OUTLINES

  1. SOCIAL MEDIA DESCRIBED
  2. IMPACT OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA

SOCIAL MEDIA DESCRIBED

Social media are web-based technologies that facilitate the sharing of ideas, thoughts and information through the building of virtual networks and communities. By design, social media is internet-based and gives users quick electronic communication of content (user-generated content) which is the lifeblood of the social media organism. Social media websites and applications are such that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

A social networking service is an online platform which people use to build social networks or social relationships with other people who share similar personal, business or career interests, activities, backgrounds or real-life connections. There are various social network platforms used by individuals based on their interests and purpose for use. Some commonly used social media sites are Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Quora, TikTok, Facebook, Messanger, Pinterest, Viber, Discord, Twitter, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Google+, Telegram, Skype, QQ, Tumblr, Reddit, Snapchat, Zoom and other professional/business platforms.

IMPACT OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA

It is important to understand the impact our status, photo, comments or blog posts may have in the future (Prov. 11:27-28). It should be remembered that social networking sites involve publishing on the internet mostly for public views which include friends, family, church members, current and future employers, school admission personnel etc. Social media has both positive and negative impacts on users.

Some of the positive impacts are:

I. The potential of the social media can be harnessed for the propagation, expansion and growth of the gospel (Is. 11:9):

ii. Corporate engagement: Social media can help improve an individual’s sense of reasoning with real or online communities and be entrepreneurs, profits and non-profit making organisations, advocacy groups, political parties, government sectors, etc.

iii. Building of relationships: Families, friends, associates etc. can easily connect and reconnect for meaningful relationships (Prov. 18:24).

iv. Social Media Influencers: These are social users who have established credibility and audience, who can persuade others by virtue of their trust-0worthiness and authenticity. You can become a great Influencer for God through social media (1 Timothy 4:12; 2 Timothy 2:1-2; Titus 2:7). Souls can be won and discipled through you as you showcase Christ and the kingdom’s virtues to the world.

v. Ease of doing business: Products and services can be advertised or marketed in real time. It gives the opportunity to create a sales funnel whereby a new contact becomes a potential/serious customer (Proverbs 22:29).

Some of the negative impacts are:

I. Uncontrolled/untamed posts (pictures, videos, captions etc)- Proverbs 18:2; Col. 4:6. The consequence of any statements, both now and in the future, should be considered. It should be assumed that everything written or said is permanent and viewable by everyone (Prov. 21:23).

ii. Treating the Bible as irrelevant or archaic in relation to modern trends and techniques. Spreading of heretical teachings and half-truths.

iii. Playing down the God-factor as a social media influencer for the sake of retaining followers from all walks of life (Romans 1:28).

iv. Self-Isolation. Avoid physical meetings or interactions while using social media as a disguise to engage in some unethical activities/behaviour.

v. Social media addictions (Galatian 5:1): Limiting the amount of time( except for business purposes) we devote to these social networking sites is both healthy and wise.

vi. Attention deficiency syndrome i.e inability to concentrate on a task or programme for a specific period without diverting to social media.

vii. Physical disconnection among close relatives. Family members living together can even become familiar strangers.

viii. Vanity metrics. Relying on the response from others through likes, and comments to your posts in judging your self-worth or importance.

ix. Activities of scammers and fraudsters.

x. Narcissism. Excessive self-love or self-importance emerges when we rely on social media sites primarily to promote ourselves or draw attention to ourselves.

CONCLUSION: Be disciplined in the use of social media. It is also wise to have accountability partners; encourage your spouse, family members and Christian brothers/sisters to view your social networking activity and hold you accountable (Prov. 27:17).

King Solomon. RCCG Sunday School Manual.

Memory verse: “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and the largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the seashore”-1 Kings 4:29.

Bible Passage: 2 Chronicles 9:22-28.

INTRODUCTION

King Solomon was born in Jerusalem 1000BC to King David and Bathsheba. He was David’s sixteenth son. Solomon was a fabulously wealthy and wise king of the United Kingdom of Isreal who succeeded his father King David. He was one of the most powerful kings of the eastern lands. He is the author of 3000 proverbs and he composed 1005 songs. (1 Kings 4:32).

OUTLINES

  1. CHARACTER AND HIS ACHIEVEMENTS
  2. LESSONS FROM HIS LIFE.

CHARACTER AND HIS ACHIEVEMENTS

King Solomon ruled Isreal between 970BC and 930BC. He wrote Song of Solomon (also called Song of Songs), Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. He asked the Lord for an understanding heart to judge His People so that he might discern between good and evil (1 Kings 3:9). Because he did not ask for long life, riches and the life of his enemies, the Lord gave him “a wise and understanding heart” (1 Kings 3:11-12). He built the House of the Lord, the temple, on Mount Moriah (2 Chro. 3:1).

King Solomon was famously known for his wisdom (2 Chronicles 9:22). He surpassed all of the kings of the earth in riches and honour in his days (1 Kings 3:13). His reign was the most peaceful as he did not fight any war (1 Kings 4:24). towards the end of his life, he had 700 wives (Princesses) and 300 concubines (1 Kings 11:3). He summed up all life had taught him in the last chapter of Ecclesiastes: “…fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecl. 12:13b).

LESSONS FROM HIS LIFE

The wisest and the richest man that ever lived was Solomon. God revealed Himself to him physically and talked with him twice. King Solomon took many foreign wives for himself, which God had forbidden him to do, and they turned his heart to other gods, as God had warned Him. So, God tore the kingdom out of the hand of his son (1 Kings 11:1-12). Here are some of the crucial lessons to learn from the life of Solomon.

  1. If you need wisdom, ask God for it and He will give it to you. If you believe and do not waver (James 1:5-8).
  2. Do not take things of the world unto yourself, or they may become a snare to you- keep yourself separate from them (1 John 2:15-17).
  3. Riches and wisdom will not keep you spiritually safe if you insist on disobeying God (Col. 3:5-6).
  4. We should not just know what is right, but do what is right (James 4:17).

King Solomon had it all and failed in so many ways but he found restoration in the arms of God. He then shared his own journey and tried to encourage others to avoid such traps in the books he authored. His sin led to the kingdom being divided in the hand of his son.

Conclusion: Solomon was human just like all of us and everyone makes mistakes. Thankfully, if we genuinely repent, we serve a redeeming God whose grace and love are unmatched.

QUESTIONS

  1. What are the achievements of King Solomon?
  2. Mention five (5) lessons from the life of King Solomon.

Bible Passage: Genesis 13: 7-9.

Introduction

A family is defined as a group of people related by blood, marriage, adoption or custom. Generally, conflict can be defined as a solid disagreement between persons or groups that often results in heated arguments. Conflict management is the practice of being able to identify and handle conflict sensibly, fairly and efficiently. Conflict is inevitable. BIBLICAL WAYS OF MANAGING CONFLICT WITHIN THE FAMILY

  1. Examine yourselves (Ps. 26:2; 2 Cor. 13:5).
  2. Love God and put him at the centre of your family (Deut. 6:4-5).

Bridging Marital Gaps. RCCG Sunday School Manual

Memory Verse: “Neither give place to the devil”- Eph 4:27.

Bible Passage: 1 Cor. 7:1-40.

Introduction

God is the author of marriage (Gen.2:24). He designed it to bring glory to His name and also for man to enjoy. However, many marriages today are not conforming to the will of God. Rather than bringing pleasure, many marriages are full of pains and tales of woes because of human choices made contrary to biblical blueprints. In this lesson, we shall unravel some of the gaps prevalent in some marriages leading to unfaithfulness among couples.

OUTLINES

  1. FORMS OF MARITAL GAPS
  2. SOME PRACTICAL WAYS TO BRIDGE THE GAPS

A. Location Gaps: Long period of absence, whether for work or serving in the military, greatly reduces the opportunities couples have to properly bond. Examples are the Photiphars (Genesis 39: 5-7) and the Uriahs (2 Samuel 11). Long-distance marriage is not ideal.

B. Emotional Gaps: The feeling of insecurity and loneliness, whether emotional, physical or sexual, can create a gap between couples. The search for excitement to escape boredom and experiment with new things like adopting new hobbies or hanging out with new friends can affect relationships between spouses.

C. Poor boundaries: Poor personal boundaries, or the limits we place on other people as to what we find acceptable or unacceptable, can result in a marital gap.

D. Revenge: The desire to pay back the wrongdoing of a partner in the “same coin” can result in a marital gap.

E. Sexual Gaps: Many partners in a marital relationship are not enjoying sex or getting satisfaction sexually. They are only enduring and coping because their spouses are not sensitive to their sexual needs. Regardless of gender, having an uninteresting sex life could put your relationship at risk of infidelity.

F. Financial Gaps: When the financial orientation of the couple differs and both parties fail to reach a compromise as to how money should be managed, there are bound to be conflicts which may negatively affect our union.

G. Physical/physiological gaps: There are also situations where a couple does not pay attention to each other or does not live like a normal couple, go out together or have a passionate relationship. Eventually, one or both of them look outside their relationship for someone whom they want to be with. (Mal. 2:14-16).

H. Communication Gaps: Communication is one of the most fundamental components of a successful relationship. If you cannot talk to your spouse and listen to what he or she has to say, you will have a hard time making it through the difficult hurdles in your marriage. Not being able to share secrets, stories and feeling with their spouses can lead some people to open up to others emotionally.

I. Excessive Use of The Internet and Social Media: Connecting with other people and talking or chatting with them for hours at length at home, work or even in some public places at the expense of your spouse can extend the gap in your relationship.

SOME PRACTICAL WAYS TO BRIDGE THE GAPS

You can take your relationship to the next level by practically taking some steps to bridge the gaps:

  1. Avoid living separately in the name of a job offer or searching for ‘greener pasture”.
  2. Understand your spouse’s love languages i.e ask and do things that make them want to be with you the more e.g holding hands.
  3. Go together on Dates; visit other families, friends and colleagues together.
  4. Commend the good things your spouse does.
  5. Condemn what is bad in love (not the person but the act)  and apologise correctly. Give no room to the devil (Eph. 4;27).
  6. Handle matters discreetly and immediately.
  7. Celebrate each other, exchange gifts regularly and create a conducive atmosphere for God’s presence in your homes (Ps. 133:1).

CONCLUSION

Marriages succeed on intentional effort and purposeful choices made by the partners to make it heaven on earth.
