Only One God. RCCG Sunday School Manual

Only One God. RCCG Sunday School Manual

Memory Verse: ” For thou art great and doest wondrous things; thou art God alone”- Psalm 86:10.

Bible Passage: Is. 43:10-15.

Introduction

The name “God”, the derivation of which is uncertain, we give to the eternal, infinite, perfect and incomprehensible being, the Creator of all things, who preserves and governs all by His Almighty power and wisdom, and is the only proper object of worship. The proper Hebrew name for God is “JEHOVAH”, which signifies “He is”. Hence, there is no one else besides our God.

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. Only One God
  2. Idolatry is Terribly Dangerous

ONLY ONE GOD

The Infalliable scriptures confirm that there is only one God, great and marvellous in His deeds. (Psalm 86:9-10; Deut. 6:4; 32:39). He is a fulfilled of promises, doing exceeding, abundantly (Eph. 3:20; 2 Cor. 9:8). He is able to subdue all things and keep His own to the very end (Heb. 7:25; Jude 24). He is full of compassion, long-suffering, plenteous in mercy, truth, and surest counsels. (Ps. 86:15) and favour (Genesis 4:6-8; Luke 1:30). He is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient (Luke 1:37; Psalm 115:3; Psalm 139:7-13; Psalm 147:5) and sovereign (Psalm 29:10; Daniel 2:20-22).

IDOLATRY IS TERRIBLY DANGEROUS

Idolatry is simply the worship of a physical object as a god or immoderate attachment or devotion of something. As far as God is concerned, this is a sinful act and it is forbidden and very dangerous to do so (Ex. 20:4; Lev. 26:1; Deut. 11:16; Is, 42:8; 1 John 5:21). There are numerous of such gods mentioned by various names in the days of the Bible and in many nations and traditions of the world today: Asherah, Baal, Baalpeaor, Chemosh, Dagon, Diana, and Molech (Judges 2:13; 1 Kings 16:32; Numbers 25:3; 2 Kings 23:13; 1 Sam. 5:2; Acts 19:24). Some have worshipped heavenly bodies, devil etc. (Deut 4:19; Hosea 4:19; Hosea 3:4). Unlike the Almighty God who is full of life, idols are inactive, perishable, helpless, highly degrading and, therefore, unworthy of worship (Deut. 4:28; Jer. 10:5; Acts 17:29; Romans 1: 22-23).

CONCLUSION

Acknowledging God as the Almighty and the only true One undoubtedly qualifies a Christian life that operates in the miraculous. It is, therefore, wise to do so now, knowing fully well that God will not share His glory with another, yet, He needs a body to manifest and express Himself.

QUESTIONS

  1. Justify with scriptures that there is only one God.
  2. How is idolatry dangerous?
