“And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from Him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah?”. And when he also had smitten the water, they parted hither and thither: and Elijah went over”.
This is the story of where Elisha stood by River Jordan, and with the mantle of Elijah he smote the river and asked, @Where is the God of Elijah?@ God answered him and said, “Here I am my son, by your side”.
In John 14;16-18, we see a comparison between us and our Lord Jesus Christ, just as Elijah had a mantle which he handed over to Elisha and it was a visible mantle. The Lord Jesus Christ told us that our own mantle which we are going to collect from him is an invisible one but is more powerful and more enduring because it is the Holy Spirit. He said that he would get the Holy Spirit after he had gone; just as Elisha got the mantle after Elijah left.
In 2 Kings 2:15, when the mantle of Elijah fell on Elisha, it transferred the spirit of Elijah unto Elisha.
In Acts 1:8, when the Holy Ghost fall on us, it is the Spirit of Christ that falls on us which means we now have our mantle in the form of the Holy Spirit.
You will discover that Jordan parted for Elisha because the mantle of Elijah was with Him.
“As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain three years , but according to my word”.
“As the Lord God liveth before whom I stand, there shall be no rain , nor dew until I call for it”.
The basis of the power of Elijah was that God was with him. Now the power of Elisha was directly proportional to that of Elisha. As a matter of fact ion 2 Kings 2:9, Elisha asked for a double portion of the spirit of Elijah. In other words, the power of Elisha doubled that of Elijah.
The power of Elijah was because God was with Elijah. In Acts 10:38, we discover that our Lord Jesus Christ was with power because God was with him. This verse says: “How God anointed Jesus Christ of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power who went about doing good , healing all that were oppressed of the devil, For God was with him”
The source of the power of our Lord Jesus Christ was because God was with Him. Jesus is our own Elijah, it follows that our own power is also directly proportionately to that of Jesus Christ who is our leader and brother because Jesus is the first born of our Father. He is the Head of Supernatural generation. This is clearly stated in Col. 1:15-18. The same spirit that indwelled him also indwells us. He said himself that the works that he did we will also do . He even went further to say “greater work than those He did shall we do”, just as Elisha did greater work than those of Elijah.
You will notice in 1 kings 18: 40-46, Elijah defeated the devil on Mount Carmel and after that, he called for the showers of blessing , which changed a period of draught to flood. Our own Elijah , Jesus Christ in Matthew 4:1-11 defeated the devil in the wilderness. Almost immediately after that, he was invited to a wedding in John 2:1-11 . There he brought in joy, relief, abundance by changing water to wine. He changed the emptiness of the people to fulfilment . He changed the shame of the people to glory, their defeat to victory.
What Elijah did was what Elisha continued. Likewise we are to continue what the Lord Jesus did on earth. By the power of the Holy Spirit , we are to change sorrow to joy, defeat to victory by bringing people to Jesus Christ. We are to turn their emptiness to fulfilment, we are to bring them into a period of abundance and relief but this can be done not by power, nor by might but only by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our own mantle. We must ask God to drop His mantle afresh upon us.

1. Understand that Jesus calls all His disciples to grow in devotion to and love for Him.
2. Evaluate the priorities of their personal lives and identify any misguided priorities that compete with their relationship with the Saviour.
3. Begin to view each day’s goals and achievements through the lens of taking up a personal cross of commitment in obedience to Jesus.
Introducing the Lesson
We naturally recoil from an invitation to die, but if we read the Bible closely, we understand that the believer’s willingness to die is not a death wish, but a commitment to Christ so intense and a love for Him so fervent that life itself becomes secondary. We are willing to make sacrifices in order to follow Him supremely.
THE HOLY SCRIPTURES
Luke 9:57. “`And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
59. And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
61. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
62. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Matthew 10:34, Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
37. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than mne is not worthy of me.
38. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
16:24. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, lf any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever r will lose his life for my sake shall find it.“`
Commentary and Application
1. Be Wholly Devoted to Christ A. Noble Ambition
Luke 9:57-58 The unnamed person in Luke’s narrative correctly identified the best possible path in life-to follow Jesus without wavering (Luke 9:57). Jesus’ answer may offer a clue to the ambitions that brought the would –be disciple to such a declaration. Jesus specifically alluded to the material comforts of life by way of the shelter enjoyed by foxes and birds.
His use of such humble illustrations could serve as a contrast to grandiose expectations of the person offering to follow Him (verse 58). If the road on which this encounter occurred was the road out of Samaria, as Suggested by verses 51-56, Jesus had just been rejected by a Samaritan village. Perhaps this person was contrasting his or her own perceived dedication to the Lord with that of people who had turned Him and His disciples away.
Whatever the circumstances, Jesus’ answer redirected the attention from the material to the spiritual. By implication, although following Jesus offered no guarantee of physical shelter, it offered immeasurable spiritual benefits borne out by the balance of Luke’s narrative about Jesus’ life and mission.
The person’s response is not recorded. Perhaps Jesus’ answer did not bring discouragement, but reshaped the individual behind that anonymous voice. These verses call each of us to examine our own hearts and discern whether we have Jesus’ values in view when we promise our devotion and service to Him.
Questions for Application
How can materialism compromise unhindered service to Christ today?
What might Jesus’ statements represent, in terms of personal sacrifice, in your life?
B. Divine Invitation Luke 9:59-62
It is important to look at the context of Jesus’ statements to the next two unnamed people with whom He came in contact (verses 59-62). By grouping these examples together, Luke served to establish a truth in that moment, rather than to illustrate a general rule for family relationships. From Genesis’ creation narrative onward, God’s Word affirms the value of family.
The Bible places great importance on grieving the dead together and on bidding family farewell. But Jesus’ lordship must always overrule standard life practices, no matter how important. One who would obey the Saviour fully must be prepared to do so at the cost of other decisions.
As with the person who offered to follow Jesus in the previous verses, these two people are unnamed, and their final decision is unrecorded. It is possible that one or both of them responded to Jesus’ reply with renewed commitment. A fanily funeral and a requested farewell might very well have been put aside and a life of service to Jesus filled with joy.
But the door is left open to an alternate conclusion. A family funeral might have seemed too important to bypass, even if it meant not walking with Christ as a result. Insisting on bidding loved ones good-bye may have resulted in family pressure to abandon the mission that wouid have brought about the separation.
The larger point is that some of life’s choices that are not sinful in themselves have the potential to become deterrents to making better choices at the leading of the Holy Spirit. How easy it is to pursue a lucrative career over a call to ministry that pays little or to dedicate time and energy to an otherwise -heaithy activity at the expense of following Christ. When we delay or reject the voice of God, we compromise our spiritual health and forego future blessings.
Questions for Application
Besides family commitment, what are other potential detours from God’s plan for our lives?__
Why is putting Christ first in everything the key to real success in anything?_
2. Love Christ Above AII Others
A. Sword of Peace Matthew 10:34-36
The concept of conflict is evident throughout Scripture, from the prophecy in Genesis that the Woman’s seed would bruise the head of the serpent (Genesis 3:15) until Revelation’s description of the final defeat of evil (Revelation 20:7-15). Enduring peace will not be a reality until the new heavens and the new earth (Revelation 21:1;22:6),

Enduring peace will not be a reallty until the new heavens and the new earth (Revelation 21:1-22:6).
The sword Jesus has brought in the meantime (Matthew 10:34) represents the unshakable standard of righteousness against which the natural human response is rebellion. Any who will follow Christ will inevitably face opposition. And that opposition might come even from one’s closest friends and relatives.
In verses 35-36, Jesus was not saying that the desired fruit of the gospel is discord within the home, any more than He was telling would- be disciples that family funerals or heartfelt farewells were detrimental in themselves.
He was driving home the contrast between the lives of the redeemed and the unsaved. There can be no compromise with anyoneeven a parent, sibling, or trusted friendwho attempts to deter the believer from putting Christ first. And it is in putting Christ first that the believer experiences ultimate peace in his or her relationship with God.
There is a second potential contradiction to avoid when living up to this standard. The “sword” of unwavering faithfulness to Christ and complete rejection of sin cannot cut into the believer’s obedience to Jesus’ commands regarding love. Love remains the supreme evidence of the believer’s redeemed life. Love must motivate continued efforts to proclaim truth even to those who violently reject it.
Questions for Application
How have you dealt with opposition to your faith from people close to you?
How can you hold on to the peace God gives in the midst of conflict?
B. Ultimate Love Matthew 10:37-39
Jesus first referenced love for parents as a means of demonstrating His supreme authority in the believer’s life (Matthew 10:37). In the Bible, the fifth of the Ten Commandments states: “Honor your father and mother (Exodus 20:12). This went hand- in-hand with following their guidance. Marriages were arranged. Family farms and businesses passsed from generation to generation. For Jesus to call on the believer to love Him more than father or mother was a demand for complete allegiance to His lordship as well.
Similarly, to love Him more than a son or daughter was to give up some measure of the authority a believer enjoyed as a parent. Loving Jesus more than a child also meant loving Him more than anything conceived as precious beyond measure. All of one’s future seems invested in one’s child. Jesus expects full faith in His plan for the future, for life and all of eternity.
There can be no room for selfish love in the believer’s life. Every personal dream and ambition is to be laid at Christ’s feet, and the cross of utter commitment to Him is to be shouldered daily (Matthew 10:38-39). The promise attached to this demand, however, is staggering in its implications. By giving up, control of our own lives, we gain the immeasurably greater life God has planned for us. Hidden within Jesus’were statement is the promise of eternal fellowship with Him.
The “more than” clause in each of Jesus’ comparisons is Important. When we love anything more than God, it js å destructive love. When we love our Saviour supremely, are transformed into people capable of unselfish love for all, far beyond any love we could express in the absence of our relationship with Christ.
*Questions for Application*
_ldentify ways in which your love for Christ has given greater depth to other loves._
_How would you define the act of taking up your cross to follow Jesus?_ 3. Deny Yourself and Follow Christ A. Opposing Views
Matthew 16:21-23 On Jesus’ final journey to Jerusalem with His disciples, He outlined what His enemies planned to do to Him (Matthew 16:21). He said they would succeed in killing Him, then followed this announcement with the promise of His resurrection. But this good news appeared to make no impression on those closest toHim. They were’ sơ taken aback by His statement that He would die that His promise to return alive after three days missed them entirely.
Peter did not even reference the Resurrection when Matthew noted his rebuttal to Jesus. He took Jesus aside and strongly protested (verse 22). The idea here is that of a rebuke, almost as if Peter were in authority over Jesus. The disciple who had proclained Jesus to be the Messiah. only a few verses earlier, and had been commended by Jesus for doing so, Was now telling the very One he had called “the Son of the living God” that He was absolutely wrong.
Jesus replied with a strong statement (verse 23). By calling Peter.. “Satan,” Jesus addressed several issues. The name means “adversary,” so Jesus could use the term to identify and correct Peter’s opposition. The idea that Jesus’ self- sacrifice was somehow a mistake, however, could also point to satanic influence. Peter may have been responding to a tempting spiritual influence in that moment.
Jesus’ conclusion in this rebuke is a life lesson for today. Throughout the Christian life, there is a tension between limited human thinking and the wisdom and direction of the Lord.
In the same way that legitimate affection for loved ones cannot be permitted to overshadow, love for: Christ,. even reasonable and carefully-constructed thinking must never be used over the Holy Spirit’s leading.
Questions for Application _What do our moments of arguing with God say about our perception of Him?_
_How can we more consistently shape our thinking with the Holy Spirit’s counsel?_
B. World or Soul?
Matthew 16:24-27 Jesus’ statement in: verse 24 follows a sequence that is true at the moment of salvation, but has daily application in the life of faith., At salvation, the significant decision is made to give up control of one’s life, take up the personal sacrifices represented by Christ’s cross, and commit to follow Jesus faithfully as Saviour and as Lord.
The growing Christian constantly encounters life experiences and expressions of personal will that must be given up or reshaped in obedience. The idea of taking up a cross varies as different challenges to our faith present themselves. And following Jesus with unwavering, ironclad trust is perhaps the most difficult lesson to learn, even for the most mature believers in Christ.
Jesus’ next contrast between hanging onto and giving up one’s life can ultimately refer to dying for Him, but also connects with life goals and even daily decisions (verse 25). This concept becomes clearer with His question about material gain. Choosing profit over God’s providential leading may, in the short term, bring about outward success. But Jesus says that all possible success on the Earth for a lifetime is not worth losing one’s soul for eternity (verse 26).
Theologians throughout Church history have wrestled with the idea of whether or not a follower of Christ who has received salvation can return to an unredeemed life and forfeit that salvation. But here we see that the danger of turning and rejecting Christ is real. Note also that Jesus warns of smaller choices that forfeit a blessing or deeper work of God in a believer’s life while he or she is in pursuit of corruptible gain.
Questions for Application
_Why do you think Jesus expressed strong warnings to His followers rather than to unbelievers?_
_What are some “gain the whole world'” influences that tempt believers today?_
Call to Discipleship
By the time the disciples had spent about three years with Jesus, receiving His teachings, we might expect them to have become so spiritually mature that they scarcely needed further guidance. However, the statements Jesus made to His closest followers only days before His crucifixion show that the path of spiritual growth is long and challenging. We, too, need the Lord’s reminders to dedicate ourselves to Him without reservation. We must seek the Holy Spirit to help us root out anything that would compete with Christ’s rightful place in our hearts. As we love and serve Him without compromise, we will continue to grow as people who deeply love and effectively serve those around us.
Ministry in Action
Give prayerful thought to declarations of purpose you have made to God in the past, and consider whether you are still moving toward fulfiling them.
As you go about your day, identify how you can more fully connect everything you do to who you are in Christ. Examine and ponder your love for the Saviour and pray for the power and desire to love Him supremely, and then reflect that love to others.

TEXT: John 14:6; Acts 17:22-28; Rom 3:23; 6:23; 2 Tim 3:14-15; 1 Peter 3:15-16; Rev. 20:11-15
KEY VERSE: 1 Peter 3:15 In your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. (NIV)
Focus Your students live in a society that wants them to believe religious and moral truth is absolutely relative to each individual. Most religions have come to accept that philosophy: and they teach that telling someone their religion is false would be intolerant. The Bible contradicts this idea and instead commends those who bring God’s absolute truth to the world.
We know from the Bible that each Christian is essential to God’s plan of bringing the good news of His truth to everyone – and this is where your students come in. They have an audience that neither you, your pastor, nor many adults can access. Christian students not only have the ability to speak the truth of the Word but also to live it in front of their peers so that they can see that this life of faith and truth works. This study will help you communicate to them the importance of standing for the truth of God’s Word and salvation through Christ alone.
The Basic Message: Explain to students…
WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA? Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation, eternal life, and spiritual truth.
WHY DOES IT MATTER? We’re surrounded by multitudes and beliefs about spirituality that deny the truth of God’s Word.
HOW DO I LIVE IT? Reject the popular idea that many roads lead to spiritual truth, and help spiritually hungry people find a relationship with Jesus.
Activity Option: FAKE OR FACT 1 Distribute paper and pens or pencils to each student. Instruct students to make a list of three items that are true about them that others in the class would probably not know, and one item that is made up or fake. Pair the students and have them read two of the true facts and the one fake fact. Each partner should try to guess which one is the “fake fact.” Have each student circle the one unused true fact and pass the papers to you for later use in the class.
Guide: Explain that it can be very difficult to know what is the truth and what is not when you don’t have enough information. It is even more difficult when someone is intentionally trying to deceive you.
Study Overview: Explain that today’s study considers… • The society often dictates what truth is, however, truth can only be found in God. • How Scripture can serve as a guide to the truth. • How real truth can captivate and illuminate a darkened world.
Inform and Discuss a). Are there Many Roads to Truth? Guide: Explain that truth and the way to find it is often misunderstood. To understand the road to truth, you have to first know what truth is.
1. How would you define truth? [Guide: Explain that the basic definition of truth is something that is in agreement with reality. For example, the statement, “Most humans have noses” is truth because most humans really do have noses.
2. Can our experiences negatively affect our perception of truth? Explain.
Hint: Yes, because your senses can misjudge some things or you could be lied to.
3. What human limitations can keep us from knowing truth?
Hint: Lack of knowledge of everything, our own biases, etc.
Guide: Explain that our limitations are not the only thing that can keep us from knowing and acknowledging truth. It is often tempting to deny truth for selfish reason, especially if the person involved is doing the wrong thing and doesn’t want to give it up.
b). God’s Way is Truth 1. Read or have a volunteer read John 14:6, What are some reasons some individuals deny Jesus is the truth?
Hint: They don’t believe in Jesus; they want to live by their own rules and not His, etc.
2. Read or have a volunteer read Acts 14:6. Why do you think Paul used the statue to an unknown god as a tool to start his witness? [Hint: It was a point of agreement Paul used to get their attention. Most individuals have some ideas and opinions about life and spirituality, which we can use as starting point for witnessing. We can often find these points of agreement by listening to what they have to say about their beliefs.
3. Discuss some concepts or points of interests Christians can use as starting points for communicating God’s truth.
Hint: An example of this would be the value of a truly reliable friend; and how Jesus can be much more than that to us, if we would only open up to Him.
4. Read or have volunteers read Rom 3:23; 6:23; Rev 20:11-15. What are some of the important concepts found in these passages that we could use as a door to witnessing?
Guide: Some answers include sin, judgment, life, and eternity. Explain that these concepts are central to God’s truth for humanity. They are the main thread found throughout the Bible and are ultimately part of some of the deepest questions people ask themselves in life. These views are what separate biblical truth from other religion.
c). How Do You Take a Stand? Guide: Read or have a volunteer read 2 Tim 3:14-15. Explain that these verses set God’s truth apart from other claims of truth out there. God’s truth gives us the wisdom needed tO make decisions to serve Jesus and to be able to receive salvation.
1. What do you think the author meant when he said to “continue in what you have learned”? Hint: We continue in the truth we have learned by living out that truth every day. Application of God’s truth is what allows Christians to live pleasing to God and to develop a good relationship with Him. It is also what enables believers to live in the blessings that God has planned for them.
2. What are some ways you can learn more about God’s truth?
3. What are some ways you can apply God’s truth?
Involve Them: FAKE OR FACT 2 Take the sheets of paper from the earlier activity, “Fake or Fact 1,” and read off each sheet one at a time. Allow the class to take turns guessing whom the story is about.
Guide: Explain that it’s almost impossible to know everything about someone. Just because you don’t know everything about one of your friends, doesn’t mean he or she isn’t your friend. Similarly, having all the answers about Christianity doesn’t need to shake your faith when your knowledge is challenged. The correct response when someone challenges your beliefs is to work hard to find answers from the Bible to questions you don’t know.
Inspire Them: Remind students “The Basic Message” of this study (pg. 74), explain WHAT the Big Idea behind the study is; WHY it matters; and HOW we can live the lesson captured in the study.”
Ministry Activity: FRIENDLY CONVERSATION This week, pray for someone who is of another religion. During the time you are praying for him or her, do research about his or her religious belief system. After your week of prayer and research, begin to engage in conversations with that person about their beliefs and compare them to yours, Over time, show him or her the love of Jesus until you find an open door to witness to him or her.
Conclude by reminding students that Jesus is the only way to experience God’s truth and His will for your life. It is our responsibility to live and speak that truth every day.
Teacher Hint: Ask Yourself… 1. Do students have basic understanding of what truth is, and that it applies to everyone?
2. Do students understand that there is only one way to eternal life?
3. Can students confidently reject the worldly ideas that many paths lead to heaven and that there are many gods, while still showing gentleness and respect to those that subscribe to those fallacies?

According to Col. 2:3, all the wisdom , knowledge and ability needed to be creative are embedded in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is residing in you., so all you need to become a creator resides in you.
For example, the knowledge of all Jesus Christ has done is in you. According to Acts 10:38, Jesus was anointed with Holy Ghost and power and he went about doing good , healing all that were oppressed by the devil because God was with Him.
You also know what He is doing now. Right Now, He is interceding for you at the right hand of God. He is highly committed to your welfare.
You also know what He can do through you in particular . Because according to Phil. 4:13 , you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you. You know that through you, Christ can do anything.
You also know what He plans to do this year by the revelation of His word to you or your leaders.
You also know who you are , according to 1 John 3;1 , you are a child of God . The Bible says:
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon Us , that we should be called the sons of God; therefore, the world knoweth us not , because it knew him not”.
You also know what you can be. 1 John 3:2
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is”
In addition to all this, you have the wisdom to utiliise this knowledge. Because all wisdom, all knowledge, all power are embedded in Christ and Christ is dwelling in you.
According to Romans 1:20-22, it is clear that darkness is ignorance both physically and spiritually. Darkness and ignorance go together. 1 John 1:5 says that our God is total light, there is no darkness in Him. In other words, God’s knowledge and wisdom are total. There is no trace of darkness or ignorance in him. Therefore, all the knowledge you need to be creative is inside of you. All the wisdom you need to be creative is likewise in you.
HOW CAN I BECOME A CREATOR?
Anyone who is not doing something for God , who is not productive or fruithful , might be cut down like a fruitless tree. Start something for Jesus Christ. You are a creator. You ought to create.
According to Col. 1:19; 2:6-10, it is sin to rely on sense knowledge when you have the entire power of God lieing in you. God is dwelling in you in all wisdom , in all power, in all ability and in all knowledge. Why do you want to rely on your sense?
Starting something however, does not mean breaking out of your church in rebellion. You could start a house fellowship in your house, under your church. It can even be grown and become a branch of your church. Don’t become a rebel. You can work for God within your Church.
WHAT CAN I CREATE?
Can I create new eyes for the blind? Or bones for the lame? Or a new womb for the barren? According to John 16:14, the Holy Spirit will guide you. John 14:26 , he will also teach you all that you need to know:
In Ephesians 3:14-20, the Bible says:
“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named. That he would grant you , according to the riches of his glory , to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man ; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted with all saints what is the breadth, and length and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge , that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”.
This is the power that Paul prayed for believers. I am also praying for you, that the purpose of God for your life shall be fulfilled in Jesus name.
SUPERNATURAL BEING
What do we mean by supernatural being ? Every disciple is supposed to be a supernatural being because they are filled with the Holy Ghost ad power. They also have the support and backing of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Therefore, from now on you are to live as a supernatural being.
In John 11:41-42 when Jesus wanted to raise Lazarus from the dead, we find that the faith of Jesus was based on the fact that God was constantly with him. He said, Father, I know that you always hear me. He didnt say that God may hear him.
That is why Jesus said , With God all things are possible. God is in you , so with God in you all things are also possible for you. You too can say as Jesus said “Father I know you always hear me. “God is right inside of you. Before you even begin to pray He has already heard you . God was always with Jesus. That is why he prayed in Matthew 26:39, 42 saying:
“…oh my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will , but as thou wilt. O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done”.
He was referring here to the cup of separation between himself and God on the cross as he carried the sin of the World. This was to be so becaus4e the eyes of God are too holy to behold iniquity.
That single separation on the cross made him cry “My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me”. Matthew 27:46. This was the cup that Jesus feared.
But the Almighty God has promised to never leave nor forsake you; that there will never be a brief separation between yourself and him. That is why God said in Isaiah 65:24 that before you call, He will answer.
That is a promise from someone who can never lie. The Bible says in Isaiah 65:24,
“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear”.
There is no reason then for us to be uncreative because all we need to do is to tell him that we want to create something, and be productive.
Tell Him to let you know what to create and how to create it. He will answer you.

The offspring of a dog is a dog. Also, the offspring of a goat is a goat. There is no way the son of a snake will be a bird. It therefore follows that the son of a creator is a creator. The lord Jesus Christ said to paul on the road to Damascus that he and his disciple are one. In Acts 9; 1-5. He said;
‘’And Saul, yet breathing out threatening and slaughter against the disciple of the lord, went unto the high priest, and desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were man or woman, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus; and suddenly their shined round about him a light from Heaven; and he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
‘’And he said, who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutes; it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks’’
The disciples have the same nature with the Divine One 2 Peter 1:3-4 says that we are partakers of the Divine nature. In John 1:4 talking about Jesus, the Bible says : “In Him was life; and the life was the light of men”. The divine nature is life, and we as disciples being one with Him have the divine nature because we have the same life as Jesus Christ.
In John 8:12, Jesus said “… I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
In other words, the divine nature is light.
In Matt. 5:14 . Jesus told the disciples that:
“Ye are the light of the world . A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid”.
That is to say that Jesus and his disciples are one, and both possess the divine nature. The disciples of Christ have the nature of light. As soon as you have the nature of God, then creative ability follows.
In Genesis 1:3,6,11 you discover that the first thing God said was @Let there be light@ God first created light before creating any other thing. The divine nature which is light must first be in you before you can stand as the son of the creator of all things in creation. The power to create is already in everyone that is born again because once you are born again and a disciple, the nature of Christ is in you, and according to Ephesians 3:20, the Bible says God can do exceedingly above that which we can ask or think according to the power that works in us.
The power that God will use to do great and mighty things is already embedded in us. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we have the power to create.
HOW DO WE CREATE ?
Hebrews 11:3 makes it clear that everything that was created was created by the spoken word God spoke and it was so! If your words begin to move the same way the word of God moves, then you are in the way of creation.
As a disciple, as soon as you were born again, you discovered that your language changed. Negative exclamation like “oh my oh my” now changed to “Glory to God”. Immediately you become born again, one of the first thing that will be affected is your language- the words of your mouth. Everything now becomes new as the Bible says in 2 Cor. 5:17.
WHY MUST A DISCIPLE BE A CREATOR ?
The Almighty is a wise leader. 1 Cor. 3:7-9 says that our Father works by delegation of duties. For example in the Garden of Eden after God created all things, he called Adam “It is time for you too to do some work. All the animals will be named by you”. God could have named the animals by Himself but He chose to delegate duties to His people.
In John 15:1-5, Jesus said He is the vine and His Father is the husbandman and we the disciples are the branches. This infers that we , the branches and the Husbandman keeps the vines but it is the branches that bears the fruit. In other words, God distributes work. Jesus Christ will carry us, we are to bear fruits and God the father back up his Son.
In 1 Cor. 1 23-24, we discover that we already have the things needed for creation (power and wisdom). We have them because Jesus Christ is the power of God to bring to pass what God wants done, and the wisdom of God to make sure that what is created is the right thing.
Wisdom plays a very important role in creation. The fact that God is in power does not mean we can do just about anything, we need wisdom to know what exactly to create. Creating a four-headed cow will be senseless when you can get four cows each with a separate head.
When you create , it must be with wisdom and backed with power. Both wisdom and power have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Phil. 2:13 says:
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do His good pleasure”.
When you are creating something for example, in building a house, the first thing is that there must be a desire for something pleasant within you. Also, there must be a plan. This also comes from within. Strong determination to carry out a plan is also needed and it comes from within. The Bible now says that it is God who works within us to do all these things.
Ephesians 3:16 says the spirit of the Almighty God in us strengthens us. This is where the ability to do a thing comes from. All the things needed to create are given to us in Col. 1:9-11.
“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding ; that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in all the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness”.
Knowledge:
Whenever you want to do something , you need knowledge. For example, you need to know the type of foundation to construct for a storey building or a bungalow depending on the choice of house you want to build. You must also the strength of the material to be used.
Wisdom:
You also have need of wisdom to wisely use the materials you have appropriately. For example, you need to know the correct measure and ratio of cement and sand to make concrete for the building.
Understanding
You also need to understand how the materials work together to give the desired result.
Strength
you must have the strength to carry out the plan.
Patience
Patience is needed until the final results is achieved. The foundation cannot be rushed. It must be solidified before anything can be built on it.
Long Suffering
Whatever it will take , you must keep on and not quit until the final result is achieved.
Joyfulness
You should rejoice in the Lord always. His joy must be your strength.
All these things and more have been given unto us. In Col. 1:9-11, the bible says:
“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God”
In addition to knowledge, wisdom and understanding , you must also increase in good works.
Verse 11 says that: “..You will be strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness”.
These are the things you need to create; knowledge, wisdom, understanding, patience, longsuffering, joyfulness.
These are all available to the disciples.
Whatever it is that you are going to create, it must be done with joy so that you can do it to the end.
Psalms 100:2 says:
“Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing”.
That is what you need to do as a disciple.

The Master we are following never did anything without the Anointing. Acts 10:38 says: “How God anointed Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit and power; who went about doing good…”
He did nothing without the anointing . He performed no miracle until the Holy Spirit fell on Him (John 1: 29-34; John 2:11). It was after the Holy Ghost descended on Him after He returned in the power of the Holy Ghost that he went to the wedding in Cana of Galilee and performed His first miracle. After Christ’s death, the disciples did not performed His first miracle. After Christ’s death, the disciples did not perform a single miracle until Pentecost.
It was after the Pentecost, when the Holy Ghost came in Acts 6:2-3,8. It is only after the anointing has come that miracles can begin. You will notice that the first thing after Paul was converted was the Holy Ghost baptism. To show the urgency of the need of the anointing , the man who went to pray for him prayed for the Holy Ghost baptism.
The joy of it is that there is only one Holy Spirit, the same one Jesus had, which Peter had, the same one Stephen had. He is the same Spirit available for every disciple today. He is available to us according to Acts 2:38-39, There is anointing in the word of the master (John 6:63).
The Lord said the words He speaks are spirit and life. The centurion also said so. He told Jesus to send his word and His servant will be healed. Remember that all he said to the ten lepers was “Go”. There is anointing in His words. The same was true of Paul, in Acts 14:8-9, when Paul said to the Lame man , rise up and walk and the man arose.
There is anointing in the touch of the Master. In Matthew 8:1-3, a leper came to Jesus to be cleansed. he said Jesus could make him clean if He willed. Jesus said He willed, “be clean” and touched him. As soon as he touched him, he become clean. In the same way, there was anointing in the touch of Paul. In Acts 20:7-12, a dead man was brought back to life through Paul.
There was anointing also in the garment of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew 9:20-22. The woman with the issue of blood touched the Hem of His garment and was made whole . In the same manner, there was anointing in the garment of Paul according to Acts 19:11-12, and he was sending his handkerchief and aprons and they were bringing healings.
It is the same Holy Ghost which was in Jesus that was in Paul, and by the Grace of God it is the same Spirit that is in you if you are a spirit-filled believer. You have the same Holy Spirit Jesus had and can thus do the same works He did.
CONDITION FOR FREE FLOW OF ANOINTING
There are two conditions for the free flow of the anointing whereby the work of God will not be hindered. These are:
The vessel in which the anointing is to flow must be pure. There must be no dirt to hinder the flow of anointing (Hebrews 1:8-9; 1 Cor. 9:27) . The anointing is like electricity. When the wire (conductor) is pure, the current flows unhindered, and there will not be loss of energy,
The disciple must have a constant link with the Holy Spirit , there must be no break in the link. In 1 Coin. 14:18, Paul thanked God that he prayed in tongues more than others. He kept on praying in the Holy Spirit because 1 Thess. 5:17 says he should pray in the Spirit.
For you to receive a supply of electricity, you must be connected to the Source. If there is a break between your wire and the main wire from generating source, there will be no supply of electricity at your end. In the same vein, if you as a disciple do not maintain your link with the Holy Spirit , the anointing will stop. But if you keep on praying in the spirit, living a holy life, the anointing will keep flowing like a river.

MEMORY VERSE: “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” – Psalms 51:5 (KJV)
BIBLE PASSAGE: Ezekiel 28:13-15
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
LESSON INTRODUCTION:
Sin and evil are words often used interchangeably because both are similar in meaning. The age-old question of where and how sin began has been explored and debated by some of the greatest minds in history, and their findings have helped a great deal in improving our understanding. However, there is no better place to discover the truth about this subject than in the authoritative manual of God – the Bible. In this lesson, we shall attempt to debunk the myths about sin and probe its origin.
LESSON OUTLINES:
Debunking The Myths About Sin
Sin Is A ‘Deficiency’
1. DEBUNKING THE MYTHS ABOUT SIN
Some, quoting Isaiah 45:7, seek to make God the author of sin: I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. However, the KJV’s word ‘evil,’ from the original Hebrew ‘rah’ is better translated as “calamity.” The context of this passage concerns God’s sovereignty over natural disasters. God is sovereign over all things (Colossians 1:16) but He is not the author of sin (1 John 1:5; James 1:13). Moral evil originated with the creature, not the Creator. In other words, sin was not part of the original creation, nor was it decreed by the Creator’s will.
The first man, Adam, sinned, and his transgression spiraled mankind into sin, but this was not sin’s origin. Ezekiel 28:13-15 speaks figuratively of Satan, who was created without flaws, as all things created by God were. Verse 15 gives us a hint as to the origin of sin: “You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till iniquity was found in you.” Isaiah 14:12-14 further indicates that Satan (Lucifer) sinned in his pride and his coveting of God’s throne.
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Are there other scriptures that make God the originator of sin?
2. SIN IS A ‘DEFICIENCY
Evil is not a created thing-it is not a creature and has no independent being. Also, evil has no standard as goodness does; it is a lack, a deficiency, and a falling short of the standard of God’s perfect goodness. All sins, no matter how trivial they may seem, fall short of moral perfection (Romans 3:23). God is always consistent with His perfect nature (Deuteronomy 32:4). All sins, therefore, must come from the creature, and the desire for evil comes from within the creature (James 1:14-15). Sin was “found” in Lucifer because of a choice he made to seek something other than what God had chosen for him. Any time we seek “other” than God’s choice, we sin.
To say sin originated within God’s creatures does not mean God was surprised or caught unawares by it. Although God did not bring about sin, He certainly allowed it or it would not exist, since God is sovereign over all things (Psalms 115:3). He could have prevented sin, but that would have meant stripping His creation of their free will (Daniel 4:17).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Just like robot, would you have preferred God switches you on and off to take every action?
CONCLUSION: God is not the author of Sin but His creatures. You can overcome sin by giving your life to Jesus Christ and choose to be holy (Romans 6:14; 1 John 3:9).
QUESTIONS:
Explain the origin of sin.
What is sin?
ASSIGNMENT: Using Ezekiel 28:15-18, identify five things Lucifer did to be found guilty of sin. (2×5=10 marks).

Conclusion
In conclusion, construction project management is a complex and challenging process that requires a high level of skill, knowledge, and organization. The success of a construction project depends on the ability of the project manager to plan, communicate, delegate, and negotiate effectively.
According to Builderspace, a good construction project manager must understand project requirements and costs to make informed and prompt decisions. They should also display the shrewdness and attitude needed to achieve project success.
Effective communication is essential to every phase of any construction project. As Smartsheet suggests, the project manager should establish a flow of communication with everyone on the ground, including every stakeholder and supplier in the plan. This transparency will make the process smoother and will reduce the number of emails and phone calls whenever a problem arises.
In summary, a good construction project manager must be an excellent communicator, a skilled problem-solver, and possess a deep knowledge of the building process. By following the best practices and strategies outlined in this article, a construction project manager can successfully complete construction projects on time and within budget.

Learning Objectives At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
1. Understand that the call to discipleship is universal; it includes all followers of Christ.
2. Desire to be used by God to further the cause of the body of Christ in a lost world.
3. Look for opportunities to serve Christ and witness to others within their current day-to-day responsibilities, and continue to pursue open doors to expand their personal ministries.
Introducing the Lesson
From the beginning, Jesus’ plan for establishing His Church was to integrate the Church into the daily lives of His followers–all of His followers. He referred to the Church as His body, powerfully illustrating how belonging to Him within the Church was a totally immersive experience that shapes all that the Christian thinks, says, and does (see 1 Corinthians 12:27). This translates to the process of discipleship, in which all believers help each other to grow as they move through life.

Commentary and Application
1. Calling Fishermen to Follow
A. Personal Encounter- Matthew 4:18-20
As fishermen, Peter and Andrew were in the midst of their profession’s main task- catching fish. Standing on the shore and casting their nets into the Sea of Galilee, they would have seen Jesus approaching them. Matthew doesn’t tell us anything about their thoughts on seeing Jesus, but he clearly records their reaction. When Jesus invited them to fish for people, they put down their nets and followed Him immediately (Matthew 4:18-20).
Peter and Andrew may have had questions about Jesus’ true identity. The Gospels reveal times when the disciples were amazed by some new insight into the Lord’s character and divine mission (e.g., Matthew 8:27;21:20;22:22). Their understanding of Jesus as Messiah and Son of God grew as they spent more and more time with Him. But even at this first meeting, Peter and Andrew acted upon the calling that they heard, and they obeyed the Lord.
An important detail to remember is that Jesus used what Peter and Andrew were already doing to help them transition into His greater plan of service. The years they had spent as fishermen had been preparing them for this moment.
What a powerful model for today’s believer to follow! God often calls Christians into His service by degrees, implementing into their lives step-by-step tasks that give valuable training for the larger mission He has in store. As believers are faithful to life’s tasks, they prepare for ever-growing levels of Kingdom service. The core quality for every follower of Christ to nurture is obedience.
Questions for Application Can you identify early jobs or life situations that helped prepare you for greater tasks in service to the Lord?
How has the Lord led you to fish for people, perhaps within a career that does not involve Christian evangelism? B. Wider Outreach.
*Matthew 4:21-22* Jesus’ next encounter was with James and John, and specifically mentions their father, Zebedee. Matthew noted that the sons were with their father in a boat repairing their nets. Likely, this was a family businėss and this task had been shared many times over the years–and was expected to continue for many more to Come.
Again, Matthew told us nothing about any thoughts or questions the sons or their father might have had. As with Peter and Andrew, the narrative focused on the immediate obedience of James and John. But it is important to consider Zebedee. There is no indication that he resented the loss of his son’s assistance.
Although Jesus’ exact words are not recorded, the implication is that He again connected His planned mission for these two additional disciples with what they were already doing. He invited them to follow the same path on which Peter and Andrew had just embarked. It is very possible that all four men had known each other for many years. We could infer from the text that Peter and Andrew were setting an example for James and John by their obedience. A core group of disciples was forming that would continue to grow and be used of God to take the gospel to the world.
All believers have a part in the proclamation of the gospel. Obedience to the Holy Spirit’s leading will reveal opportunities to introduce the lost to the Saviour, regardless of job description, personal ability, or any other human factor.
Questions for Application How have your loved ones reacted to the Lord’s leading in your life?
What can you do to encourage someone to begin their Christian journey? *2. Calling Sinners to Repent* A. Personal Testimony
Matthew 9:9 In recording his call, Matthew focused on Jesus’ invitation and showed his own response to be one of immediate obedience. Also, Matthew noted his current career- that of a tax collector just as he had identified the others as fishermen (chapter 4).
But that one distinction makes an enormous difference in the implications of Matthew’s encounter with Jesus. Where the four fishermen were accepted members of their Jewish community, Matthew was likely resented as a tax collector, as most tax collectors were. Furthermore, Matthew may have been wealthier than most people, and in many cases, a tax collector’s wealth came from exploiting the people.
However, any attitudes the society of that day might have applied to fishermen and tax collectors did not affect Jesus’ view of His disciples. Jesus does not place people on a scale of intrinsic value. His desire to transform lives and use them for His service is equal for every person. Matthew was no more and no less valuable to Jesus than the first four disciples.
Matthew’s abandonment of all that he had been in order to pursue what Jesus wanted him to become speaks a powerful message. Regardless of social position, personal resources, or long-term ambition, nothing can compare with the fulfillment, joy, and significance of heeding Christ’s call into His service.
Questions for Application How can Jesus’ followers model His equal (and immeasurable) valuation of all people?
If you were to use Matthew’s spiritual autobiography as a framework for your own testimony, what details would you include about your salvation experience and discovery of God’s calling upon your life?
B. Forgiving Healer
Matthew 9:10-13 Soon after Matthew left his tax collecting table to follow Jesus, he undertook an act of ministry he and the other disciples would share.
Matthew is the key person mentioned, as the host, but all the disciples were clearly involved in the events of the evening, since they were collectively approached by the Pharisees (Matthew 9:10-11). Several details in this story shed light on how Jesus desired His followers to live out the ministry of the Church, both then and today. First, such ministry is not limited to religious leaders. In this instance, the leaders were actually in opposition to Jesus. Second, ministry to hurting people is not about ceremony but about relationships. Here, a meal was being shared in Matthew’s home. This was an everyday event, not some regulated observance of the Law. Third, everything being done for the gathered crowd was done with an understanding of their spiritual need. The festivities never overshadowed the redemptive purpose at work (verses 12-13).
Jesus’ response to the Pharisees help to clarify all three points. First, He let the disciples be active to the point that the Pharisees approached them rather than Him directly. Second, He was invested in the events of the evening, so that the crowd was attracted to Him rather than put off in any way. Third, He used the illustration of a physician treating those who were ill to make it clear that His ultimate purpose was to bring spiritual healing rather than mere material provision.
Like His first disciples, all of Jesus’ followers today are to be catalysts of loving service to those around them. As physical and emotional needs are addressed tangibly and meaningfully, the potential for meeting deep spiritual needs will multiply.
Questions for Application What opportunities can you identify to offer practical expressions of Christ’s love?
How can believers today avoid categorizing people, as the Pharisees did, and reach out to all with the gospel?
3. Granting Authority to Disciples A. Deliverance Modelled
Mark 3:7-12 Mark’s Gospel focuses initially on Jesus’ personal interactions with the first disciples He calls, with specific people He heals, and with the community of Capernaum where He teaches in the synagogue. But in Mark 3, the picture changes. Mark described Jesus’ growing reputation, and he reported that an enormous crowd came from regions near and far to hear Him at the Sea of Galilee (Mark 3:7-8).
Imagine the disciples’ feelings at seeing the multitude. Vast numbers of men, women, and children were clamoring to hear Jesus, to be near Him, and to receive answers to their desperate needs (Mark 3:8, NLT). This was a radically different ministry environment than Matthew’s dinner we discussed earlier. In the midst of this immense crowd, Jesus did not press His disciples into service. He gave them a very simple task perfectly in line with what they had been doing for years launch a small fishing boat from shore so that He Would have a platform from which to speak (verse 9).
Mark also records that Jesus had already been active among the throng, healing many and delivering many from demonic possession (verses 10-12). Yet, at this large-scale gathering of Jesus’ public ministry, He allowed the disciples to observe. They watched Him perform many miracles, perhaps wondering when He would ask them to do something. But His only request was for them to acquire a boat.
The believer today can trust Jesus to provide the same nurturing as we see in His call to discipleship and service among His original disciples. The universal key to success and continued growth is continuing to obey the words and teachings of our Saviour.
Questions for Application Can you remember an early “boat fetching” kind of directive God gave you that helped prepare you for later service?
How does Mark’s narrative reinforce the truth that the Christian’s identity and mission are closely connected to who Jesus is and what He does? ___________________ B. Disciples Empowered *Mark 3:13-19* Jesus’ selection of the Twelve from among the growing band of devoted followers may appear to be an act of discrimination, as if Jesus was saying, “I’ve decided to stick with you dozen over here, and the rest of you can go home.” But the ministry of discipleship is about close relationships, and the subsequent multiplication of those relationships. Jesus would invest himself in the Twelve mentioned in Mark 3:13-19, so that they, in turn, in turn could invest in others. Also, unnamed disciples beyond the Twelve remained with Jesus, though in the background.
The Book of Acts shows us how this dynamic worked. After the suicide of a guilt-ridden Judas, the Holy Spirit led the remaining apostles to fill Judas’ position of leadership and service in the Early Church. Acts 1:21-26 notes that this prayerful selection was from among men who had been with Jesus throughout His earthly ministry–from His baptism by John the Baptist to His ascension.
The Twelve would become living illustrations of how Jesus can use obedient servants to grow His Church and transform fallen humanity. This selection conferred much more than the title of “apostle.” The Twelve were not only called to proclaim the good news, but they were called to minister with spiritual authority. The context of these verses Conveys the idea that the Twelve would have the same anointing to perform the spectrum of miracles Jesus demonstrated. They had come far from merely launching a boat from shore! ___________________ *Questions for Application* Why is it important to view the Twelve as examples rather than exceptions?
What practical steps can believers take today to grow in their ability to minister with Jesus’ authority?
Call to Discipleship
A life-changing invitation to four fishermen and a tax collector gave them the opportunity to take part in Christ’s world-changing ministry. The Gospels powerfully combine people’s everyday experiences with their eternally significant encounters with Jesus. Jesus still invites people to be radically transformed in relationship with Him and then be used in service to Him.
The common denominator in Peter, Andrew, James, John, and Matthew’s meetings with Jesus was their immediate obedience. Jesus called them to a personal relationship with Him, and to trust Him to direct their lives. Our obedience can open doors to Kingdom service we could never envision on Our own.
Ministry in Action Take stock of your tasks and responsibilities and look for ways they might shape you for Kingdom service.
Take time to listen during your times of prayer and Bible study for the Holy Spirit to lead you into new opportunities.
Ask God to give you the kind of love for all people that Jesus demonstrated, and to help you demonstrate His love.
Our Captain is a good Warrior (Exodus 15:3). The Bible says the Lord is a man of war. When he decides to fight, He sharpens His swords and weapons (Deut. 32:39-43).
The Lord is a man of war and He knows how not to forget the saying that if you want peace you must prepare for war. When our God and Captain fight, he fights with all that He has. He fights both from above and beneath. He throws all He has into it.
A good example is seen in Joshua 10:10-11;30. The Lord is seen fighting with hail stones from above and with a flood of water from beneath. He made the ground muddy so that the enemy could not run away and escape. That is why the Bible says in Psalms 68:1-2 “Let God arise and His enemies be scattered”. God has promised in Isaiah 1:24 to get rid of all his enemies. He did not just say so, He swore. In Is. 62:6-9, God swore to get rid of His enemies. But there is a condition. His disciples must be willing to fight also. He will fight for them for He is their captain. He will lead the battle but we must be willing to fight.
Paul admonished Timothy in 1 Timothy 6;12 for fight the good fight of Faith. He didn’t say play the good play of faith. In fact, that is the purpose of recruiting new disciples- so that the number of soldiers will increase.
In 1 Timothy 1:18, the Bible says “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy according to the prophesies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare. “
There is a war to be fought, so the disciple must be willing to fight. He must be willing to fight like His master. In 2 Timothy 2:3-4, the Bible says: “Thou, therefore, endure hardness as a good soldier of Christ. No man that warreth entangled himself with affairs of this life that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier”.
We are chosen to be soldiers and we must fight like our captain, Jesus Christ. We must throw everything into it. In Songs of Solomon 6:10, the Bible says: “Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun and terrible as an army with banners?”
The writer asks . “who is she, not who is he? She is the bride of Christ, that is the disciple. We the bride of Christ are the army. He is leading us into battle. He is going to conduct the fight. We must be armed till the victory is won, according to Deuteronomy 3:18-22. If you know him as Jehovah Nissi, the Lord our Banner and Captain, you would not run from battle. According to Daniel 11:32. He will supply the strength so that you can fight (2 Samuel 22:40).
In Is. 28:5-6, God says he will supply the strength and also conduct the fight. All you have to do is to have to do is to have faith in Him. He has never lost a battle. The Bible says in 1 John 5:4 that if you have faith you have overcome the world. Also, Hebrews 11:33-34 talks of those who by faith stopped the mouth of lions.
You must know that your Captain is greater than the enemy (1 Chro. 32:1-8).
You must now decide if you are going to be a soldier of the Lord as He leads the way, or if you are going to dodge. In your decision, you must note one thing, that all those who fight for Him are blessed, and those who refuse to fight for Him are cursed (James 2:23-27). The choice is yours. But remember that you are not going to do the fighting with your own strength. Decide to be a soldier of God, always fighting for Himas He leads the way.

Love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”… Love your neighbour as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these. ” (NIV)
Focus
The Bible says that by demonstrating a complete love for God and selfless love for others, a person will fulfil all of God’s laws and expectations. Of course,
it’s not the laws that save us, nor is it our own love. It’s God’s love that made the way for our relationship with Him. And it’s that relationship that enables us to love God and people in a way that would otherwise be humanly impossible.
This week’s study will help students investigate what it means to love God with every aspect of their being.
The study also highlights another commonly quoted but often misunderstood passage of the Scripture: “Do to others what you would have them do to you” (Matt 7:12).
As you prepare for the study, consider your level of love for God and others. Consider some of the choices you face right now and ask yourself: “Which course of action best demonstrates love for God and for others?” Then make decisions based on God’s laws of love.
The Basic Message: Explain to students…
WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?
By loving God completely and others selflessly, we fulfill all God’s laws.
WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Wholehearted love for God naturally results in a selfless love for others.
HOW DO I LIVE IT?
Give God the love He deserves and treat others the way you would like to be treated.
Activity Option: Read or have volunteers read the following passages and note what they tell us about the relevance of God’s Laws today:
• Psalm 19:7- God’s law is perfect and trustworthy.
• Matt 24:35- God’s Word is the one thing that stands forever.
• Matt 5:17 – Jesus didn’t come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. People who disregard it will lose their place in God’s kingdom.
Guide: Explain that laws constantly change, adapting to society and culture. But God’s guidelines for living will never change.
Though some Bible passages pertain specifically to cultural issues of the time, the principles of God’s timeless commands apply today as they did when He issued them.
Study Overview: Explain that today’s study considers…
• How Jesus sums up what it takes to keep all God’s commands.
• What it means to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
• What it means to treat others the way we would like to be treated.
Inform and Discuss
a). Love God Completely
Teacher Hint: Read or have a volunteer read Matt 22:36-40. Explain that God wants us to choose to love Him with every aspect of our being.
In this session, we will consider what these different aspects of our being represent.
1. WITH ALL YOUR HEART: Explain that someone’s heart refers to the core of his or her affections, attention, passion, and devotion. God wants to be the core of your life- the focus of your passion and purpose.
Discuss and list some ways your life might be affected if you love something or someone with all your heart.
Guide: Explain that whoever, or whatever, has your heart usually has control of your life. When God truly captures your heart, your relationship with Him is evident to those around you.
2. WITH ALL YOUR SOUL [Guide: Explain that your soul is the core of who you are -the “real you.” It’s the spiritual, eternal aspect of your being (Matt 16:26). In this context, it could represent your deepest motives, longings, and convictions.]
• Read or have a volunteer read Psalm 42:1-2. What does it mean to thirst for God? In what ways can we meet God? [Hint: A soul that truly longs for God will want to be with Him at every opportunity– through prayer, His Word, worship services, etc.
3. WITH ALL YOUR MIND: Explain that loving God is not simply a matter of feelings or emotion. It is a CONSCIOUS CHOICE.
Beyond words, it means submitting your will to God and making decisions that please and honour Him.
• Read or have volunteers read Rom 8:5-8; and Col 3:2. Ask students to describe contrasts between how Society wants us to think and how God wants us to think.
• Read or have a volunteer read Rom 12:2. How does having a renewed mind transform a person?
Hint: Thinking differently leads to acting differently. Too often people get frustrated trying to change what they do. But the actual problem is that they need to change how they think and what they think about.
Guide: Consider the following Progression:
thoughts>>ideas>>choices>>actions. Then explain that we need to be cautious about what influences our thoughts. For example, we should guard against exposure to corrupt ideas and images. And fill our minds instead with time in God’s Word, prayer, and wholesome activities.
Note: Loving God with your mind means not only having your thoughts on Him but His thoughts in you. Loving God with your mind means that your thoughts and decisions please and honour Him.
4. WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH
• What does it mean to love God with your strength? [Guide: Explain that we can use our activities to glorify God and choose activities that will help us grow spiritually. We must stick to God’s standard in a world where most people reject Him, and we must press on even when we don’t see immediate results from our spiritual efforts.
>>Note: The primary evidence that we truly love God is that we will obey His commands and teachings (John 14:23-24; 1 John 5:3).
b). Love Others as Yourself
Read or have à volunteer read John 13:34-35; and Rom 13:8-10. How are we to love others? What will this kind of love prove? [Guide: Explain that Christians’ love for people must be subject to, controlled by, and directed by their love for God. His holiness and standards must never be compromised in showing love toward people.]
>>Involve Them: Discuss with students the following specific ways they can treat others like themselves:
• Give them attention. Listen to them and look out for their interests (Phil 2:3-5; James 1:19).
• Give them care. Be kind, do good, pray for, and serve them, regardless of how they feel about you (Luke 6:27-28; Gal 6:10).
• Give them respect. Treat them with dignity and avoid unnecessarily offending them (Rom 12:10-14;1 Cor 10:32-33).
• Give them the benefit of the doubt. Consider the reasons behind actions, and don’t assume the worst (Matt 7:1).
• Give them the best. Give your best effort, share, and give them a first choice (Luke 3:11; 14:10; Rom 12:13; Heb 13:16).
• Give them the goods. Don’t withhold help, but meet needs when it’s within your ability to do so (Prov 3:27; 1 John 3:16-18).
• Give them a break. Be patient with them and don’t judge. Forgive without holding a grudge (Prov 17:9; Luke 6:37).
lnspire Them: Remind students of “The Basic Message” of this study (Pg. 69), explain WHAT the Big Idea behind the study is; WHY it matters; and HOW we can live the lesson captured in the study.
Ministry Activity: WHATS BEST FOR YOU
Distribute note cards and pens or pencils. Have students list two or three situations in their lives in which they have a decision to make. Popular advice says, “Do what’s best for you.” But that’s not God’s way. Give students time to ask themselves which course of action best demonstrates love for God and others. Then allow them time for personal prayer.
Conclude by encouraging teens to love God more than anything or anyone else. Remind them that we can love God and others only because God loved us first (1 John 4:19).
Teacher Hint: Ask Yourself…
1. Have students considered what it means to truly love God with all aspects of their being?
2. Have students take note of specific ways they can treat others like they themselves like to be treated.
3. Do students understand how loving God and others fulfill all of His Commands?

The answer is simple. It is principally to distinguish between friends and foes. I mean friends will wear the same uniform, and then enemies will wear the same uniform.
Why must a disciple be distinguishingly branded for Christ? Because they want to be identified with Jesus Christ. For example, in Acts 4:13, the Bible says when they observed the boldness of Peter and John, they took knowledge of them that they had were with Jesus.
They saw that these people were special and branded for Christ. In Acts 11:26, the Bible says the disciples were first called Christ in Antioch. People saw something about them.
They said “These people are like Christ. Therefore, let us call them Christians. They are like Christ, they behave like Christ. Then in Galatians 6:17, Paul said something there: “From henceforth let no man trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus Christ.
You will remember the story in Acts 19:13-16 when some vagabonds said they wanted to cast out demons. And they said to the Demons, “We command you in the name of Jesus which Paul Preaches. Come out!
The demons answered and made a very significant statement. They said, “Jesus I know and Paul I know also. Demons can recognize those who carry the mark of Jesus on their body. Why must we be clearly branded for Christ? Why must the identification be there? Why must the soldier of the cross wear uniforms that will show the enemy that these ones belong to Christ?
It is so that the fire, the bullet of God will not hit his own. You know when two armies are fighting, if you are a soldier of a particular army, and then you see somebody that is wearing the same uniform as yourself, you will not fire at such a person. You will fire at the enemy.
Now in the same manner, in spiritual armies, the Army of God is fighting against the enemies and if the enemy cannot distinguish between those who belong to God and those who belong to them, or rather if Jesus Christ can not see you clearly as you belonging to him then, the soldier can fire at you.
Before God begins to fire His bullet, He will say, first of all, let us identify those who belong to me.
EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT WERE BRANDED FOR GOD
For example in Revelation 7:1-3, the Bible says:“And after these things, I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth nor on the sea, nor on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God, and he cried with a loud voice to the angels, to whom it was given to hurt not the earth, neither the sea nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads,”
The angels were telling all the other angels before we began our operation, let us identify those who belong to our God.
2. You will remember in Exodus 12:12-13, God told Moses, “Tell the children of Israel, mark your house with blood, before the Angel of death begins to pass through. When I see the blood, I will pass over”. If there was any child of Israel of any family of Israel , that did not mark their house on that day, when the angel of death was passing by, as soon as he saw the house without blood, he will just go in and kill the first born.
God wants anyone who belong to him to be sealed, to be branded.
3. And what about Rahab in Joshua 2:17-19? When Joshua sent his spies to go and spy Jericho, and they got to the house of the harlot, they said unto her , we will spare you and every one in this house, provided there is a red ribbon on the window and all members of this family are within this house that is specially marked. They will escape death, but if they dont come to this house and they die where they are, dont blame us.
4. What about the case of Moses? In Exodus 32:26-28, when he went to collect the Ten Commandments, and before he came back, the children of Israel were already worshipping idols.
All these people who worship idols should die. Before we begin to kill them, let us find out those on the Lord’s side, So, Moses stood and cried “Who is on the Lord’s side?” Let them come to me and the Bible says all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together. It is only then is now said the judgment can begin on idol worshippers.
5. Also in Numbers 16:19-35, something happened. There was a group of people, Korah, Dathan and Abiram. They said “Moses, what are you trying to do? You said you are the Prophet, Aaron your brother is the Priest, your sister Mariam is the Choir Mistress . Why? You want to turn the whole nation of Israel to family business ? Who told you that we too cannot hear from God? So, Moses got angry , and said, “God, I hope you heard them? God said, “I heard them . But before I judge, you tell them, all those who are on the side of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, go ahead and stay with them. But those who are not in support of what you have said. Please come to the side of the Lord. And they did. Separation came, the ground opened his mouth and swallowed all the people and all their supporters.
6. The same thing happened in the case of Balak in Numbers 25:1-5. When the children of Israel began to fornicate with the children of Balak, when they began to mix with the children of Moab before the diseases started that killed those thousands. God already separated those who were not involved.
There is a great reason why we must be clearly branded for Christ. It is either you bear the mark of Christ or you bear the mark of Anti Christ.
Revelations 13:16-18 , talking about Anti Christ, said,
“And he causeth all, both small and great , rich and poor , free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand or in their foreheads. And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beasts; for it is the number of a man, and his number is Six hundred three score and six”.
Brethren, as disciples of Jesus Christ, everything about us must be clearly distinctive, showing that we belong to Jesus Christ. The way we dress, the way we talk, everything about us. People must be able to look at us and say “This is a Christian. If you are covered with the blood of the Lamb, the bullet of the devil cannot hit you. And if the bullet of the devil has hit you before, you can go to Jesus, and he will remove the bullet. But if the bullet of Jesus hits you, who will help you? So, you should be branded for Christ.
It is better to talk to Him now. “Lord, in everything from my head to toe, my body, soul,, and spirit, I want to be branded for Christ”.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
MEMORY VERSE: Psalms 100:2 (KJV)
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
INTRODUCTION
Psalms 23 is an expression of our confidence and trust in the Lord. Each verse reveals the close relationship David shared with God.
Metaphorically, David portrays God as a loving “Shepherd.” This is because being a shepherd himself; he knows what it means to cater for the flocks.
The imagery of God as “THE SHEPHERD” is common throughout the Old and New Testaments. Therefore, every believer should understand the place of God in their lives as the “Shepherd,” what it means to be a “sheep” and how to rely solely on God.
OUTLINES:
1. The Believer As A “Sheep”
2. God As “The Shepherd”
1. The Believer As A “Sheep”
The term “sheep” in this context, is used metaphorically for believers (Psalms 100:3). A “Sheep” is someone who obediently follows and relies on the Lord Jesus Christ – “The Shepherd” (John 10:14).
A Christian has to subject himself to the leadership of the “Great Shepherd” who surely has his interest at heart (Hebrews 13:20).
Like the sheep, a believer needs God for daily provisions both spiritual and physical (Luke 11:3; Matthew 7:9-11); for protection from predators (John 10:11-12); for direction on the right path (Proverbs 16:9), etc.
Moreover, a believer needs the Shepherd to save him from hirelings – false Prophets, fake pastors, heretical teachers, apostate apostles, greedy evangelists, etc.
Where the sheep only see green grass, the Shepherd sees hidden dangers. Hence, without the Shepherd the sheep is in trouble (1 Kings 22:17).
Also, a sheep needs the Shepherd when life is hard (Psalms 27:13); in times of anxiety (Matthew 6:25-26); in need of safety (Psalms 125:2); downcast (Psalms 43:5); in need of help (Psalms 121:1-2), etc. Therefore, believers should always call on God as Shepherd 10:13).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1:
The class should mention other times the sheep may need the shepherd.
2. God As “The Shepherd”
A shepherd is a person who tends herds – someone who feeds and guards herds of sheep. A shepherd’s primary responsibility is the safety and well-being of the flock.
Like David, believers in Christ can call God their Shepherd (Psalms 80:1; Isaiah 40:11). Jesus Christ also calls Himself the “Good Shepherd” (John 10:11).
In fact, Hebrews 13:20 call Him “the Great Shepherd.”
Our Shepherd performs His all-important role in the following ways:
1. He leads us out and in so that we find pasture and safety (John 10:9).
2. He knows how to take care of our needs and in the course of His grace, and providence leads us in the way in which we should go (Psalms 84:11; Isaiah 30:21).
3. He watches over us and keeps us from being destroyed by ravenous (John 10:10-11).
4. When we stray, He brings us back (Matthew 12:11).
5. Just as the shepherd brings the flock to the shade in times of scorching heat, God becomes our refuge in times of persecution and affliction (Psalms 91:4).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2:
Students should share with the class, the roles the great shepherd has performed in their lives
