Be very careful in selecting the people you spend time with in every area of your life. When it comes to power, your associations are critical.

 

This law works like osmosis — you will absorb the good and the bad of all the people around you without even knowing. It’s almost like an infection — you have to quarantine yourself against the negative ones.

 

When I went to ​Unleash the Power Within​, a live event with Tony Robbins, he taught us something really powerful. He said:

“If you want to truly excel in any area of life, if you want to compress decades of learning into days, this is the most potent strategy that’s out there: ​associate with those who are playing at a higher level than you are. Spend time with them. Learn from them. Association with them will force you to subconsciously play at a higher level.” 

 

Similarly, in the book ​The Compound Effect,​ Darren Hardy talks about the idea that the effect of your influencers will keep on compounding over time. Your influencers are critical for your long-term success or your long-term demise.

 

So take stock of your influencers. Be very picky in whom you spend time with. Avoid the negative people in your life.

  • I made a decision to never try to prove how smart and how talented I was.
  • I stopped trying to prove why I was right and they were wrong, even if that was the case.
  • I stopped trying to impress my boss or my VP.

Within 3 months I got promoted. It was shocking.

Here’s why this law works:

  • The people above you want to appear smarter and more talented than you.
  • When you show off how good you are, others tend to feel insecure. They start to resent and envy you.
  • These people don’t want you to grow and threaten them.

 

The superiority of a subordinate over his superiors can be fatal for the subordinate. Keep this law in mind.

not change immediately; some things change in due course, amid
inevitable challenges. Certainly, Christians are new creatures in
Christ. The Holy Spirit creates a new nature in us when we are born again. One result of this new creation is the
inevitable conflict that exists between our new nature and our old one. Such conflicts will exist throughout our lives. But we will emerge victorious as we are careful
to satisfy the desires of the new and refuse the desires of the old.

2 Corinthians 10:1-4

 

As a matter of background, Paul began 2 Corinthians 10 by communicating on a personal level. His appearance of meekness (rooted in following Christ) led his enemies to accuse him of being weak and lacking boldness in his communication (see 2 Corinthians 10:1). Note how Paul corrected this notion: His tone and approach in their presence reflected the meekness and humility of Christ, not the attitudes of the world. Paul made it clear that he preferred meekness over boldness.

 

 

One definition of meekness is strength under control. In meekness, Paul strongly urged them to correct their ways. Otherwise, he would demonstrate boldness in his next visit. His attention to proper responses offers a good example of
how Christians should interact in conflict.

Paul used the military to illustrate the importance of his meek approach. Believers have spiritual battles in this world, but they must not fight those battles using worldly tactics and worldly weapons, but spiritual tactics and spiritual weapons.

 

There is an important observation to be made from verses 3-4. We must recognize, as Paul stated, that the weapons of spiritual battle are unique. We do not gain
spiritual victory by asserting our own bold declaratíons or actions. Such victory is not a matter of winning arguments by human reasoning, nor does it come through personal charm. We are, in fact then, rather passive in the matter of winning. The victory comes from the Lord, for the battle is won through “God’s mighty weapons” (verse 4, NLT).

2 Corinthians 10:5-6
While Paul does not specifically identify the weapons of spirituál warfare in 2 Corinthians 10:5-6, he does address them elsewhere in his Corinthian epistles (1 Corinthians 1:17-25; 2:1-5; 2 Corinthians 4:1-6). Spiritual weapons find their foundation in the message of the gospel.

 

The gospel has the power to destroy worldly arguments against the knowledge of God (that is, the gospel). Human philosophy and reason cannot stand against divine truth. Such philosophies appeal to the flesh and are limited by the imagination and abilities of the flesh, for they are human creations. Godly truth pulls down these obstacles to truth. Furthermore, such teaching is rooted in human pride, which is utterly at odds with the humble, selfless submission to God that ought to characterise believers. This is why God’s people must view the proclamation of the Word as a spiritual battle. Rebellion must be replaced by obedience to Christ, and such life change only comes through spiritual transformatíon.

 

At the root of Paul’s argument, then, there is much more than philosophical debates and arguments. Paul was intent on defeating all ungodly teaching (verse 6), and Would enact discipline upon those who put forth such teachings. Once the Corinthians showed
themselves willing to hear the truth, Paul would deal strongly with the false teachers.

2. Authority and Power of Christ
A. Complete in Christ
Colossians 2:9-10
There are many philosophies in
the world today that are very contrary to Christianity. A number of these are similar to-or even had roots
in -false teachings of New Testament times. One such philosophy was known as Gnosticism, and an early form of this was confronted by Paul in
Colossians. This false teaching promised special, secret spiritual
knowledge to those who would be “enlightened,” supposedly by God.
Note Paul’s staterment, in Colossians 1:9: “We ask God to give you
complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding” (NLT). In response to human philosophies (2:8), God gives us all we need in Christ.

The false teachings confronting the Colossians (as well as many believers today) depend upon human ideas and philosophies
rather than upon the revelation of
Scripture-even as these false teachings sometimes twist Scripture. Simply put, we will find all we need
for our new lives in Christ within the teachings of and about Christ-the
reality of His life, death, resurrection, and ascension.

Since Jesus Christ is all the fullness of the Godhead in bodily
form (verse 9), He is the source of everything the believer requires,
Believers are “complete in him” (verse 10, KJV): The word “complete” is rooted in a nautical
term. It can embody the idea of a ship fully rigged and equipped for a
voyage. This applies to Christians who are ready for the voyage of life.
We find everything we need in Christ, our Captain. We can rest in Him as our Source of life and Sovereign Lord. No power can snatch us from His hand.

Paul continued on with a
marvellous description of what it means to have this fullness or
completeness in Christ (verse 10). We have experienced the breaking
of the power of the sinful nature. As a result, while we struggle with
temptation, and will on occasion fall into sin, we are no longer slaves to
the power of sin. Through the Spirit we can live in victory. To further bring light to this, Paul referred to spiritual
circumcision and water baptism (see verses 11-12). Through salvation, his readers had discarded their old,
sinful lifestyles, Furthermore, sin had
been removed from their lives, a blessing which was depicted in the outward sign of baptism.

Colossians 2:11-15
Beginning with Abraham, we see circumcision to be a sign of God’s
covenant with His people (see Genesis 17:13), and this continued in the Law (see Leviticus 12:3).
Circumcision spoke to Israel’s relationship with God and their holy
status as a separate people who forsook the sins of the surrounding
peoples. Now, as New Testament Christians, Paul said that we have
undergone spiritual circumcision of the heart (see Romans 2:25-29).

Christians are a holy people, called to put off the sinful nature and
live in full obedience to the Lord. This can only happen by the power of God who lives within them. Itis the workof
the Spirit, but it requires the ccoperation of believers. Water
baptism, as it is mentioned in
Colossians 2:12, is a public declaration of the believer’s having
identified himself or herself with Jesus as the One who cleanses and
saves. It is an outward declaration of
the inner work of the Spirit. Christians declare that they have died, have been buried, and are now
raised with Jesus Christ to a new way of living.

We, as Christians, must see ourselves as having a new spiritual
identity as we seek to live out that identity. Water baptism does two
important things. It is a physical reminder of what it means to be a
new creation in Christ, and it is a public affirmation n of our desire to make Him the Lord of our lives.
The Cross is the means by which God
triumphed over all powers and authorities (verses 13-15). Through
the sacrifice of Christ, the guilt of our sins was removed and we can stand clean before God. Furthermore, the
powers of darkness that seek to deceive us and derail our spiritual
journey have been defeated. Jesus has triümphed over them.

divide their affections between the one true God and pagan gods.
James made it clear that a person cannot be friends with the world as
well as friends with God (James 4:4). A Christian cannot live a double life.
Either he will find contentment in God, or he will be dissatisfied with what God provides and seek fulfilment elsewhere.

God does not tolerate divided hearts that crave carnal desires
(verse 5). Instead, He expects Our total commitment, and He will pursue a spiritual adulterer so that he or she might return. But He will not dwell in
them if they choose to pursue another source of satisfaction.

People who commit themselves to God will not immediately be free
from the desire to find satistaction in other a arenas. But God will give us the strength to stay committed to Him.

James went on to provide seven keys to aligning oneself with God and finding genuine, godly personal
fulfilment. The first key is to humble, or submit, oneself to God (verse 7).
As Christians, we are to wilfully submit to God, humbling ourselves
before Him, recognising His sovereign authority, and choosing to
live according to His will and purpose for our lives.

The second key is to resist the devil (verse 7). Throughout our lives
the devil will try to draw us back into his grasp. He will often tempt us in
areas of personal weakness –an
activity, thought, or ambition where
we have an especially strong desire. Resisting temptation can be difficult. But it is easier to resist if we have
submitted those areas to God and recognised that a relationship with God is more important than temporary personal fulfilment that is sought for the wrong purpose.

The third key is to draw near to God (verse 8). God promises to never leave or forsake believers (see Hebrews 13:5). If wayward believers will lay aside their desires and seek God, He will be there and readily receive them back into a right relationship.

Fourth, Christians are to
“cleanse (KİV; or “wash,” NLT) [their] hands” (verse 8). One might imagine a farmer in a field, with dirt sticking to his hands. They will need cleansing.
In the same way, when people seek fulfilment through worldly means,
some of that worldliness attaches to them. A follower of God must forsake sinful things, as well as surrender to
God the good things that have taken on an improperly high level of
significance in their lives.

The fifth key is to purify one’s heart –the seat of our affections
(verse 8). We cannot be double –minded when it comes to our loyalties. God does not allow us to
share our affections. We must follow Him only.

The sixth key is to grieve over sin (verse 9). James indicated that Christians must recognise how
double-minded ways impact their relationship with God. No one who
truly loves God can come to the recognition of how their acts of worldliness affect their relationship
with Him and not have
Sorrow.

The final key is to humble oneself (verse 10). Humility leads to
submission. Believers often feel that they know what is best for them. But humility acknowledges that God is wiser than us. Sincere humility demands genuine trust in God.

B. Resist the Devil
1 Peter 5:6-10
Peter also addressed the issue of finding victory in our spiritual walk.
He urged Christians to humble themselves before God, reminding
them that God would “exalt” them in “due time” (verse 6, KJV). Note the contrast. Humans seek exaltation;
God calls us to humility. Humans tend to want to see immediate
results. But spiritual growth takes time. God will indeed exalt us-lift us
up –in His timing.

Growth may produce
challenges, but we must not allow these challenges to turn us aside from the pursuit of Him. Rather, we must let go of worries, concerns, and problems that hold us back, placing them in God’s hands, for He calls us to spiritual growth –part of which is the realisation that we are under His care (verse 7).

As we live in submission to God, we must, through the power of the
Spirit, resist the devil (verses 8-9). Why? Because the devil is focused on our spiritual destruction. Intentionally pursuing spiritual
growth is an active pursuit. We must
stand firm for God, resolved to walk
with Him. Through it all, we find comfort in knowing that others have
successfully pursued the goal of spiritual growth as they faced the
same challenges we face. We have the assurance that our pursuit will be rewarded by God, who will make us
strong and steadfast in Him (verse 10).

Rape and Incest, Violated Innocence. AG Teen Sunday School Manual

 

Text: 2 Sam13:1-22; Lam 3:22-26; Ezek 18:21-23; 2 Cor 1:3-4; Gal 6:1-5

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. (NIV)

>>Focus
Sexual tragedies (e.g. rape and incest) leave emotional scars that can last a lifetime. Those who believe in Jesus may wonder why God allowed such a terrible thing to happen to them. Those who don’t know Jesus may try to overcome the pain of their abuse alone. Many struggle with guilt, shame, embarrassment, anger and depression. This study focuses on the hope and compassion God offers to people who are hurting.

Pray for the students in your class, especially for those who may be dealing with rape or incest that has happened in their own lives; and pray equally for the rest of the class to allow God to use them to minister to those who are hurting. Also ask God to help you be sensitive to the needs of your class as you try to minister.

 

The Basic Message: Explain to students…

WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?

God gives hope to people affected by rape and incest.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Victims of rape and incest can find hope through compassionate Christians and God’s healing power.

HOW DO I LIVE IT?

Understand that God wants to restore victims of rape and incest, and be ready to demonstrate Christ’s love to these victims.

Activity Option: WOULD YOU RATHER?

Ask students the following questions to spark discussion. Explain that the answer “neither” is not an option. 1) Would you rather eat a live spider or swim through a pool full of rotten eggs? 2) Would you rather be known as a gossip or a coward?

Discuss the students’ answers briefly. Then explain that, fortunately, life gives more options to choose from when making decisions. However, hundreds of thousands of people each year are robbed of their right to make their own decisions about their sexual lives when they become victims of rape and incest.

Teacher Hint: Definitions

•Rape – sexual intercourse that is perpetrated by force and without Consent.
•Incest – sexual intercourse with a family member, one of those family members often being a child.

Study Overview: Explain that today’s study considers…

How sexual abuse affects its victims.
How God brings hope and healing to the victims of rape and incest.
What we can do to help restore those who have been affected by sexual abuse.

Inform and Discuss

a). Destructive Impact

1. Read or ask volunteers to read 2 Sam 13:17-19. How do you think being raped or sexually molested affects a person emotionally? [Hint: Often the victims are left feeling ashamed and angry. Some may even blame themselves, thinking that they brought the incident upon themselves or that it was somehow their fault. Some even experience depression and flashbacks.

 

2. How do you think being raped or sexually molested affects a person’s relationship later on in life? [Hint: Victims may have a difficult time trusting people after being abused. They may develop a distorted view of sex that can negatively affect their marriages. They may lash out at others in an attempt to cope with the pain and anger of being abused. Sexual abuse can also affect the way a person views God.

 

Guide: Explain that rape and incest have devastating effects on victims and their families. These victims need to know that God loves them and cares for them no matter what. He wants to heal them and rebuild their lives.

 

b). Hope for the Broken Hearted

1. Read or ask a volunteer to read 2 Cor 1:3-4. What are some ways God comforts people? [Hint: God comforts people through many different means such as the Bible, the Holy Spirit, and other Christians]
>>Guide: Read or ask a volunteer to read and summarize Lam 3:22-26. Explain that God’s love is our source of hope. No matter what happens in life, we can count on His mercy and compassion. Christians are a key part of God’s plan to offer comfort and compassion to those in need.

 

2. What can you do to minister to victims of rape or incest? [Hint: Encourage them to seek counseling, show them genuine Christian love and acceptance, assure them they are beautiful and valuable to God, and help them deal with issues of self-acceptance and forgiveness of the perpetrator.

 

c). Forgiving the Perpetrator

1. Read or ask a volunteer to read and summarize Ezekiel 18:21-23. How do you think God feels about those who sexually abuse others?
>>Guide: Point out that rape and incest are regarded by most people as one of the worst crimes that can be committed. God sent Jesus to die on the cross to save the souls of all people, even those who commit such terrible crimes. He does not approve of their actions, but He promises to forgive them if they repent and ask for forgiveness.

Note: God doesn’t want to see anyone die in their sin. It is His desire that everyone repent and ask for forgiveness.

2. Why can it be difficult for a victim of sexual abuse to forgive the perpetrator? [Hint: Forgiveness doesn’t come easy because sexual abuse is so destructive. Fear that the perpetrator might continue committing such crimes often stands in the way of a victim offering forgiveness.

Guide: Explain that when a victim chooses not to forgive, they hurt no one but themselves. Unforgiveness leads to bitterness and hatred. Forgiveness is not an easy thing to offer and it may take time, but it is an important part of overcoming the trauma of sexual abuse.

3. Read or ask a volunteer to read Gal 6:1-5. What do you think it means to “carry each other’s burdens”?

Guide: Point out that, as the body of Christ, we are called to restore a brother or sister who has sinned. Restoration means leading him or her to a place of true repentance and into committed relationship with Christ. This does not mean that a known sex offender is qualified to be involved in ministering to others in the local church, even if he has been forgiven. Trust must be earned but may never be fully restored. Thus, bearing one another’s burden in the case involves helping the recovering person avoid situations that could be sources of temptation.

Note: While Christians should offer forgiveness, the legal and emotional consequences for sin remain.

involve Them: MY RESPONSE

Divide the class into SMALL GROUPS. Tell each group to brainstorm ways they could respond if they found out their friend had been raped or sexually abused by a family member. Encourage them to think of actions as well as words. Allow the groups to share their answers with the rest of the class.

Remind the students that it is important to be patient and compassionate toward those who are working through the emotional pain of sexual abuse or rape. Emphasize the importance for victims of rape and incest to seek counseling from a qualified Christian counselor to help them heal emotionally and learn how to deal with the aftereffects of such an experience.

Inspire Them: Remind students THE BASIC MESSAGE of this study (pg 44), explaining WHAT the Big Idea behind the study is; WHY it matters; and HOW we can live the lesson captured in this study.

 

Ministry Activity: SECOND CHANCE

Lead the students in prayer for both the victims of rape and incest and the perpetrators. Focus on asking God to heal the victims and help them be able to forgive and asking God to help the perpetrators come to know Him and repent of their sins.

Conclude the study by reminding students that there is hope after sexual abuse. God can and does restore victims and perpetrators when they come to Him with sincere hearts.

How To Develop A Work Breakdown Structure For Projects

 

In my previous article, I talked about all that you need to know about work Breakdown Structure for projects. In this article, I want to talk about how to develop a work Breakdown Structure for projects. Follow me as we look at that together in this article.

The guidelines…

#1 Reference material

There is a need for you to gather the reference materials and other inputs you will need. Some of the materials include the scope statement, requirement documentation, a WBS template, constraints and assumptions, constraints and assumptions and other planning inputs that may impact scope definition.

#2 Organisation

You have to determine how you are going to organise the work of your project. Regardless of the organisation, these elements represent the level directly below the project name on your WBS. The WBS can be created using various methods.

Subdividing the project into phases s the first level of decomposition and then subdividing the phases into product and project deliverables is the second level of decomposition.

The project can be subdivided into major deliverables, which can be the first level of decomposition.

Making the subprojects conducted outside the organisation the first level of decomposition and the supporting contract work the second level of decomposition.

#3 Major deliverables

You need to identify the major deliverables or subprojects for the project.

The major deliverables should be listed in the scope statement or contract, but your team may think of more deliverables that are necessary to achieve the project’s objectives.

If you are organising your project work by major deliverables, this step will represent the level directly below the project name.

If you are organising your work by some other method, the major deliverable will probably be two levels below the project name.

#4 Sufficient decomposition

You have to analyse each element to determine whether it is sufficiently decomposed. Can each deliverable be adequately scheduled, budgeted, and assigned to an individual person or group?

If yes, you have reached the work package level; decomposition for this element is complete. Skip the next step and go to step 6. If not, further decomposition is required for this element.

#5 Subdeliverables

Break down each WBS element into Subdeliverables until you reach the work package level. For each element, ask yourself, ” In order to create this deliverable, what Subdeliverables will we have to produce?”. Repeat step 4.

#6 Validate your WBS

There is a need for you to validate your WBS using a bottom-up approach. Starting at the work package level, ensure that:

  • The lower level complaints are necessary and sufficient for the completion of each decomposed item.
  • Each element is described as a deliverable and is distinguishable from all other deliverables.
  • Each element can be adequately budgeted, scheduled, and assigned to an individual person or group.

Remember that, although it is not necessary to have the same number of levels for each deliverable, a disproportionate number of levels may indicate that the deliverable is inappropriately decomposed.

Analyse the element to determine whether one of the high-level components should be broken into two or more Subdeliverables should be combined.

Make the necessary modifications before moving to step 7.

#7 Project code

Using your Organisation’s or project code of accounts, assign a unique numeric cost code for each element, indicating its branch and level on the WBS for cost performance tracking and reporting.

Jesus Is Coming Back. RCCG Sunday School Teachers

 

OPENING PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me and the members of my class to prepare for Your second coming in the name of Jesus. 

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The teacher should allow the Assistant Teacher to review the previous week’s lesson.

MEMORY VERSE: “Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” – Acts 1:11 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (KJV)

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

 

 

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Acts 1:10-11 describes the ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ as personal, bodily and visible, and that His second coming will be in like manner. However, the second coming will be in two stages: the rapture which will be sudden (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17) – when the Lord comes for His saints and we meet Him in the air and then, the revelation that is public (Revelation 1:7) – when the Lord comes with His saints to set up the millennium, at the end of the great tribulation period (1 Thessalonians 3:13). The time of His coming is a secret that only God the Father knows (Matthew 24:36).

B. PROPHECIES OF HIS SECOND COMING

  • The teacher should identify and explain the following prophecies about the second coming of the Lord Jesus:
    i. Prophecy by Prophet Daniel. Daniel 7:13.
    ii. Prophecy by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Matthew 25:31.
    iii. Prophecy by Apostle Paul. 1 Timothy 6:14.
    iv. Prophecy by the Angels. Acts 1:10-11.

C. PURPOSE OF HIS SECOND COMING

  • The teacher should identify the following purpose of the Lord’s second coming.
    i. To complete the salvation of saints. He has delivered us from the power and penalty of sin but then He shall deliver us from the presence of sin and Satan. Hebrews 9:28
    ii. To be glorified and admired in His saints. 2 Thessalonians 1:10.
    iii. To bring to light the hidden things of darkness. 1 Corinthians 4:5.
    iv. To judge (2 Timothy 4:1) and to reign. Revelation 11:15.
    v. To receive true believers to be with Himself. John 14:3.
    vi. To destroy death. 1 Corinthians 15:25-26.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should discuss why some people assume/believe that Christ will not come the second time despite the prophecies.

2. THE MANNER OF HIS COMING AND ITS SIGNS

  • The teacher should identify the manner, the nature and the signs of His coming as indicated below:

A. MANNER OF HIS COMING
i. At Rapture: Saints will meet the Lord Jesus Christ in the air. 1 Thessalonians 4:17.

ii. At Revelation: The saints will descend with Him to the earth. Ephesians 4:10; Jude 1:14.

B. NATURE OF HIS COMING
i. Christ is coming in the clouds. Matthew 24:30.

ii. Christ is coming in the glory of His Father. Matthew 16:27.
iii. Christ is coming in His own glory also. Matthew 25:31.
iv. Christ is coming in flaming fire. 2 Thessalonians 1:8.
v. Christ is coming with power and great glory. Matthew 24:30.
vi. Christ is coming bodily as he ascended. Acts 1:9-11.
vii. Christ is coming with a shout and voice of the arch angel. 1 Thessalonians 4:16.
viii. Christ is coming with his saints. 1 Thessalonians 3:13.
ix. Christ will come with his Holy angels. Matthew16:27.
x. Suddenly. Mark.13:36.

 

 

C. SIGNS OF THE SECOND COMING
NOTE: The teacher should distribute the following scriptures to the students and ask them to mention/identify the signs of the second coming.

i. 2 Timothy 3:1-7.
ii. Matthew 24:5-7, 12-38.
iii. Luke 21:20, 24.
iv. Romans 11:25.
v. Matthew 24:14.
vi. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-8.

NOTE: Some of the signs that the Bible mentioned and which the students are expected to identify are as follows:

  • The appearance of false Christ, wars and rumours of wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, sin will multiply, love of many will become cold, merry-making, eating, drinking, destruction of Jerusalem, the fullness of the gentile or completion of the church, preaching of the gospel everywhere, coming of the antichrist, etc.

D. BELIEVERS’ PREPARATION
i. While we ought to plan and work as if He will not be coming for another century.

ii. We must be prepared and live a holy and pure life all the time as if He will return today. 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13.

SUMMARY: Christ will come again.

CONCLUSION: Christ’s second coming is sure and certain (2 Peter 3:3-12).

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Acts 1:10-11 describes the ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ as personal, bodily and visible, and that His second coming will be in like manner. However, the second coming will be in two stages: the rapture which will be sudden (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17) – when the Lord comes for His saints and we meet Him in the air and then, the revelation that is public (Revelation 1:7) – when the Lord comes with His saints to set up the millennium, at the end of the great tribulation period (1 Thessalonians 3:13). The time of His coming is a secret that only God the Father knows (Matthew 24:36).

    i. Prophecy by Prophet Daniel. Daniel 7:13.
    ii. Prophecy by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Matthew 25:31.
    iii. Prophecy by Apostle Paul. 1 Timothy 6:14.
    iv. Prophecy by the Angels. Acts 1:10-11.

C. PURPOSE OF HIS SECOND COMING

  • The teacher should identify the following purpose of the Lord’s second coming.
    i. To complete the salvation of saints. He has delivered us from the power and penalty of sin but then He shall deliver us from the presence of sin and Satan. Hebrews 9:28
    ii. To be glorified and admired in His saints. 2 Thessalonians 1:10.
    iii. To bring to light the hidden things of darkness. 1 Corinthians 4:5.
    iv. To judge (2 Timothy 4:1) and to reign. Revelation 11:15.
    v. To receive true believers to be with Himself. John 14:3.
    vi. To destroy death. 1 Corinthians 15:25-26.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should discuss why some people assume/believe that Christ will not come the second time despite the prophecies.

NOTE: Some of the signs which the Bible mentioned and which the students are expected to identify are as follows:

  • Appearance of false Christ, wars and rumours of wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, sin will multiply, love of many will become cold, merry making, eating, drinking, destruction of Jerusalem, fullness of the gentile or completion of the church, preaching of the gospel everywhere, coming of the antichrist, etc.

D. BELIEVERS’ PREPARATION
i. While we ought to plan and work as if He will not be coming for another century.

ii. We must be prepared and live a holy and pure life all the time as if He will return today. 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13.

SUMMARY: Christ will come again.

2. Conduct Marketing Research

Market research is an essential part of campaign promotion. Feeding into your buyer personas, market research can answer key questions about your target market, such as:

  • How old are they?
  • What do they spend most of their time doing?
  • What social media platforms do they use, if any?
  • Do they live in suburban, urban, or rural areas?

Knowing the above information about your target audience can help you answer questions like — TV or YouTube? Instagram or LinkedIn? Billboard or bus? — because you’ll understand more about how to appeal to the right people.

3. Choose Your Platform

Your market research should give you the insight and confidence you need to choose the most effective platform to reach your target audience. You should also do some supplemental research on the costs, ROI, and benefits of certain ad platforms and methods.

You may come to the realization that using multiple ad platforms and methods would be the right move for your campaign – such as social media and search engine ads. This is actually a great strategy, as it casts a wider net and opens up the possibility of reaching even more prospects where they already are.

4. Decide on a Budget

For advertising, you need to spend money to make money.

Getting your budget approved can be difficult, so make it easier to get what you need by clearly outlining:

  • The total budget you need
  • How the costs are broken down
  • A projected ROI (or business impact)

Be sure to come to any budget meeting prepared to answer whatever questions could be thrown at you and to defend the specifics.

For instance, saying “We need $10,000 to run a Google Ads campaign” doesn’t sound nearly as compelling as “We’d like to run a series of ads on Google. Here’s a list of our keywords and negative keywords, their monthly search volume, and our preliminary bids for each. With these projections, we’re expecting to bring in 400 new contacts next month for a total cost of $10,000.”

5. Craft a Message

By this point, you know your target audience and preferred platform, but you’re still unsure what you’re saying. Here’s where you’ll want to think about the broad purpose of your campaign to inspire your ad.

Do you want people to come to your store, or visit your website? Is your immediate goal to drive free signups for your software, or ebook downloads? Think about the message and how that can feed into your ad campaign’s end goal(s).

6. Get People Talking

While your message needs to include your brand purpose and tie in with long-term marketing goals, it also needs to be something people remember.

Mark O’Donnell, one of HubSpot’s own Principal Revenue Marketing Managers, shares the importance of an ad that generates buzz through his own experience,

“The most most impactful ads need to be timely, memorable and provocative. Specifically on LinkedIn, ads needs to solve a pain point or a need with the audience – at the right time. It needs to stand out from the competition and a noisy newsfeed. This can be achieved by a true understanding of your ideal customer profile (ICP), and focusing on building relevant audiences and creating urgency. The ask for your audience needs to be clear and the message needs to call them out to take action. Lastly, test this with multiple ad types, creative and message. The best ads are usually the ones that have been tested, optimised and improved over time.”

Here’s why: As more advertising shifts to social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and even Twitter, brand marketing needs to get to the point ASAP to drive customer interest and social sharing. If your message — text, images, or videos — can make users stop, look and share with their connections, you have a much better chance of creating organic interaction and driving more traffic to your site.

7. Decide What You’re Building

Ads can build brand awareness and product awareness — but not simultaneously. As a result, it’s worth taking the time to think about your advertising goals for new marketing campaigns.

For example, if brand awareness is the goal, you may want to consider a set of ads that tell a story or help customers learn more about what makes your brand unique. Here, the goal is to engage with customers over a longer period of time to help them engage with your brand from the first time they see your ad to eventual conversion. Ideally, your brand story will help create a long-term, reciprocal customer relationship.

Product awareness ads, meanwhile, are designed to highlight new products or services, call out seasonal specials or help drive specific action from customers. They’re often one-offs or a short series of ads that run over a small period of time.

8. Include a CTA

While building awareness is critical for ads to be effective, it’s not enough in isolation.

That’s why all your ads also need a call-to-action (CTA) that provides information for consumers on what to do next. In some cases — such as an ad on your webpage — the CTA may be simple and direct, such as “sign up for our newsletter” or “click here to buy now.”

 

If you’re advertising on social sites, meanwhile, reaching for an immediate sale or asking for user contact data may actually drive customers away. Here, your CTA needs to be more subtle but no less clear. For example, you might opt for “click here to learn more” or “explore what we have to offer.” In practice, the goal is to avoid presuming what users want — instead, your CTA provides a path to more information if they’re interested. And if you’ve crafted a great ad, they will be.

 

9. Don’t Forget the Details

They’re small things — the smallest, in some cases — but can have significant impacts for your ad campaign: The details.

Consider an advertisement for a concert or event that your company is hosting. You’ve done the work: Identified the right market, crafted a great message, and created a CTA that will drive customer action.

But…

You’ve forgotten the details. Your ad doesn’t mention where or when the event is happening. Sure, customers could click through and see the specifics on your website, but there’s no guarantee they’ll take this step. Put simply, when it comes to creating a great ad, you have to account for the forest and the trees: You need big-picture advertisements that are visually compelling, content-rich and engaging, but it’s just as critical to double-check that you’re not missing the details.

10. Create Test Ads

Before launching your ad campaign, it’s worth trying your hand at making an advertisement for your brand. Here’s why: Not all ad designs look as great on the screen as they do in your head. By creating basic mock-ups, you can see what works, what doesn’t, and what needs to improve.

How to Make an Ad on Photoshop

Let’s say you want to create a Facebook ad on Photoshop. Follow these steps:

  • Create a new document in Photoshop.

Open Photoshop, select “File,” and then click “New” from the drop-down menu. You’ll see the screen above. Here, you can select the size of your new ad, along with the color profile you want to use.

  • Insert your image.

Next, you’ll want to insert an image to work with. Simply drag-and-drop the image of your choice into the Photoshop workspace and you’re ready to go.

  • Add some text.

Next, add some text to your image by selecting the “T” button in the bottom left-hand corner. You can choose vertical or horizontal text, depending on what works best for your image.

  • Add a CTA.

Once you’re happy with your text placement, consider adding a CTA. Select one of the shape tools from the left-hand side menu and insert that into your image. Resize as needed, then head back to the text tool and insert your CTA.

  • Consider the 20% rule.

Facebook used to have a hard-and-fast 20% rule that stated no more than 20% of your image could contain text. While this is now a strong suggestion rather than an absolute rule, it’s worth keeping your text to a minimum since Facebook rates ads based on their text volume — the more text you have, the lower your chances of getting seen.

  • Save your file.

Finally, save your new ad. Head to “File”, then “Save As,” and then “Format.” It’s worth saving it as both a Photoshop document (.psd) and a .png file, which makes uploading to Facebook easier.

11. Develop Creative Assets

Whether it’s copy for a Google Ad or a flashy landing page from your in-house designers, all ads need creative assets. Chances are, most of the ads you run will need one or more of the following:

  • Short, promotional copy (for image ads and online ads)
  • Long-form copy (for video scripts)
  • Photographs (for online ads)
  • Custom-designed images and/or animations (for online ads and video ads)
  • Video (for…video ads)
  • GIFs (for online ads)

All of these assets can be overwhelming, and if you’re thinking “I’m not a videographer/writer/designer/photographer!”, that’s totally fine. If these resources aren’t available to you in-house to help make your ad, consider hiring a team of freelancers or an agency to help you produce these deliverables and make an outstanding advertisement, or use an online marketing design tool like Canva to help streamline the process.

 

12. Determine Measurements of Success and Set Up Tracking

No matter if your ultimate goal is Page Likes, online purchases, or promo code uses, you should never launch an ad without first being crystal clear on two questions:

  • What do we want to see in order to call this ad successful?
  • How are we measuring success?

Jonathan Barshop, a HubSpot Sr. Product Growth Manager, shares his determinants of success for ads geared toward podcast listeners,

“When it comes to podcast ads, we’re either trying to drive downloads for shows within our network or page views to HubSpot’s website. On the download side (the side I manage), we mostly gauge success based on the conversion rate of new listeners, meaning if 1,000 listeners hear our ad on X show and 50 of them go and download one of our episodes, that’s considered a strong conversion. The success of most audio ads are predicated on the podcast hosts relationship with your podcast / product — if they genuinely like it, it’ll come across in the ad read and listeners will flock.”

You have to make the expectations of your campaign known by setting up proper goal-setting and ad tracking.

If you’re advertising online, there’s a good chance the platform you’re using — like Facebook, Google, or LinkedIn — has an ad management and tracking platform, allowing you to see how many interactions your ads have had and how much they cost.

However, you’ll also want to take a few extra steps to aid in your analysis down the line:

  • Use an automated free ad tracking platform to measure advertising ROI and see how your ads tie into larger marketing projects and campaigns. You can also use this platform to compare ads from different sites; say, if you were running ads on both Instagram and Twitter.
  • Set up a custom tracking spreadsheet offline to measure engagements with your ad and other data points like cost, conversion, and advertising ROI, especially if your ad is online.
  • Use custom tracking tokens for links promoted in your ad so that you can analyze engagement and conversions on your own website.

13. Launch Your Ad

The stage is set, and you can finally launch your ad for the world to see.

Needless to say, the process of launching an ad on Google is different than on Bing. The same can be said for every social media channel, TV ads, or transportation ads.

14. Track & Analyze Performance

For campaigns that have a set run time (transportation, television, etc.), determine how the ad’s results performed against expectations. Since it’s difficult to draw a one-to-one comparison for these ad types, you may want to look at general business trends, changes in revenue, or even social media/press mentions to gauge success.

For online ads, this process is a bit easier. Results start coming in immediately, so you can see how well your ads are performing instantly, and over time. Take note of the ads bringing in high numbers at low costs and — just as importantly — ads costing a lot but not performing that well.

15. Make Changes, Rinse, and Repeat

Once your ad campaign is over (or if it’s an ongoing online campaign), apply your learnings to your next advertisement.

For instance, maybe you realized your online ads that were wordier performed worse than ads that were more concise, or that YouTube just didn’t work this time around. Lean into what worked (or is working) and abandon what’s not to continue to strengthen your company’s advertising program.
