Why You Can Be Arrested For What You Say On Whatsapp

Can you Be Arrested for What You Say on WhatsApp?

YES. And it’s already happening.

There are some of us that always feel that because we are behind keyboards , we are invincible. Some of us used the opportunity of having access to the Internet to spread fake new and we feel we cannot be arrested. With the new Cyber Crime law in Nigeria now in forced, that is no longer possible.

I have already posted some contents about that law in my previous post.

Anytime you are online or you are in any social media space, you should be careful of how you are contributing to issues and what you are putting out there.

You should not also abuse any politician because you are supporting a particular party. The truth of the matter is that politicians know where they meet.

You called someone a f00l in a WhatsApp group.

You thrêåtêned your ex “I’ll dêal with you.

There are content creators as well who usea their platforms to blackmail celebrities. Some will not even do due diligence before putting content out there.

The other day a particular content creator alleged that Day Amusa is HIV positive without finding out the truth , it turn out to be a fiasco.

We need to learn how to use Social Media platforms so as not to land in trouble. It is not everything that you see that you share on Groups.

Whatsapp Admins can now be arrested for what is posted on their platforms. Whatsapp administrators should not be complacent about moderation.

Do not allow your Group to be an avenue to share fake news or blackmail others. It is irresponsible.

You sent a n*de without consent.

You leaked a chat you weren’t supposed to. For those of us that are fond of sending screenshots and private conversations without consent. The law is actually waiting for you as well.

Now police dey knock for your gate.

Let me educate you please. Under Nigerian law:

Cyberbùllying is a crime.

Defamation via chat? Na sue you go hear.

Thrëat s, insùlts, or blackmail? You fit enter Kirikiri.

WhatsApp is not your personal diary. You have to be careful about what you have decide to share on Whatsapp including status.

The messages can be screenshotted, printed and tendered in court.

Don’t say online what you cannot defend in court. If you are fond of jumping into conversations on Whatsapp groups and saying things that you fannot substantiate. Be careful. You need to to understand that not everyone on that Whatsapp Group is your friend.

So, before you type that “MÃDNÊSS”,Ask yourself,

Can I read this boldly to a judge?
