Deferred Hope. RCCG Sunday School Teachers. 25/06/2023

SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN
1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

MEMORY VERSE: “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12.

                                                           Isaiah 66:10-14

[10]Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:

[11]That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.

[12]For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.

[13]As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

[14]And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb: and the hand of the LORD              shall be known toward his servants, and his indignation toward his enemies.

INTRODUCTIO                                                                  N: Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen. However, weariness and heavine        ss of heart m      ay set in when there is     an uncomfortable or prolonged delay. Sometimes, while in this valley of life, we fast, pray, work smart and even sow seeds of faith in our bid to find solutions, yet, there might still be a delay. In this lesson, we shall consider biblical examples and winning strategies while waiting.

TEXT REVIEW: Isaiah 60:10-14.

This Scripture gives hope to those who are experiencing delayed hope. The teacher should identify five (5) words of hope from the passage.
i. ——————————————–
ii. ——————————————
iii. ——————————————
iv. ——————————————
v. ——————————————

LESSON OUTLINES: 1. SOME BIBLICAL INSTANCES

I. Mention some Bible characters who, despite their relationship with God, waited painfully and hoped patiently for their expectations to be met and were not disappointed in the long run (Prov.23:18; Rom.5:5). For instance:
a. Abraham/Sarah and Hannah waited long for the ‘fruit of the womb’ (Gen.15:2; 1Sam.1:2).

b. David hoped painfully for deliverance from King Saul and his enemies (1Sam.19:18; Ps.3:1).

c. Joseph had a dream that he would be great but was thrown into the pit, sold into slavery and imprisoned (Gen.37:5).

d. Job lost his children, business, and health suddenly and hoped for restoration (Job1:13-20; 14:7, 14).

e. The children of Israel laboured and suffered for 430years in Egypt before God sent Moses to liberate them (Ex.12:40).

f. The widow of the indebted prophet was exhausted until she cried to the prophet (2 Kgs.4:1).

II. At the end of the day, God changed their stories:
a. Abraham/Sarah and Hannah were visited by God and they got Isaac (Gen.21:1-5). Hannah received her testimony son (1Sam.1:20).

b. David later got his deliverance and became a king (2Sam.6:21).

c. Joseph’s dream became a reality. He became the ruler over the realm of Egypt and his brothers bowed to him (Gen.42:6-7).

d. God blessed the end of Job more than his beginning (Job 42:10).

e. The Israelites eventually got delivered from the Egyptians (Ex.14:26-29).

f. The indebted widow of the prophet received divine assistance (2Kgs.4:1-7).

III. Waiting patiently on God in times of distress is key (Isa.40:28-31).

Vessels For The Master’s Use. RCCG Sunday School Teachers.

RCCG Sunday School Teacher Manual 18 June 2023 TOPIC: Vessels For The Master’s Use

OPENING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please make me a vessel for the Master’s use in Jesus’ name.

MEMORY VERSE: “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” – Ezekiel 22:30 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Jeremiah 18:1-6 (KJV)

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: God does not necessarily need our strengths or strong points to use us. Oftentimes, He delights in using our weakness, because whenever He does, we do not get to share in His glory. God wants us to be examples to others of what He can do in and with us if only we are willing and obedient to do His will. God is still looking for vessels to use.

TEXT REVIEW: Jeremiah 18:1-6

The teacher should identify five lessons from the parable/analogy of Porter’s house according to the passage:

i. ……………………
ii. …………………..
iii. ……………………
iv. ……………………
v. ……………………

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF VESSELS GOD USED
  2. GOD’S REQUIREMENTS AND REWARDS

1. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF VESSELS GOD USED

A. The teacher should establish the fact that God can use any available person because He is no respecter of persons. Acts 10:34-35.

B. The teacher should mention some of the vessels God used in the Bible despite their weaknesses and shortcomings as follows:

i. Moses: A fearful man (Exodus 2:14), of low self-esteem (Exodus 3:11) and a stammerer (Exodus 4:10). He was chosen by God to deliver the Israelites from age-long captivity (Numbers 12:6-8).

ii. Gideon: A man of doubt (Judges 6:11-13; 6:36-40) and low esteem (Judges 6:14-15). He became the vessel chosen to liberate his people from the Midianites (Judges 7:19-25).

iii. David: He was the least in his father’s house (1 Samuel 17:14a; 16:11-12), an adulterer (2 Samuel 11:2-4) and an apparent murderer (2 Samuel 11:14-17). He became a man after God’s heart (1 Samuel 13:14).

iv. Peter: An unlearned fisherman who slept instead of praying (Matthew 26:37-44) and even denied Christ three times (Mark 14:66-72). He was mightily used by God (Matthew 16:16-19, Luke 22:31-32; Acts 2:40-41; 3:6-8).

v. Paul: When he was Saul, persecuted the Church, arrested and aided the killing of many believers (Acts 8:1-3). Jesus converted and made him a chosen vessel, especially to the gentile nations (Acts 9:1-15).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1
The teacher should ask each student to mention at least one weakness they have and how they can overcome it.

2. GOD’S REQUIREMENTS AND REWARDS

A. The teacher should explain to the students that God is looking for vessels and His requirements include:

i. Faithfulness. Luke 19:17; 1Corinthians 4:2; Jeremiah 5:1.

ii. Availability. Ezekiel 22:30; Isaiah 6:8.

iii. Teachability. John 14:23; Matthew 10:24.

iv. Obedience to His word. 2 Timothy 2:21; Proverbs 13:13.

v. Being strong in Christ. John 14:13; 15:16.

vi. Purging of self. 2Timothy 2:21.

vii. Laying aside weights. Hebrews 12:1.

viii. Death to self. John 12:24-26.

B. A WORD OF CAUTION
God can discern every thought and motive behind every action. Hebrews 4:13; Psalm 33:13-15.

C. REWARDS FOR VESSELS GOD USES
God will reward everything we do in His name, whether in secret or in the open. (Revelation 22:12).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2
Students should identify how God rewards faithful vessels on earth.

SUMMARY
God has requirements and rewards for His chosen vessels.

CONCLUSION
You are the next vessel to be used by God. Stop resisting Him.

CLOSING PRAYER
Almighty Father, please use me for your glory.

ASSIGNMENT
Identify five (5) areas where you think you are too weak to work for God and ask Him to strengthen you in those areas (No Mark).

MEMORY VERSE: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2Corinthians 4:7.

OPENING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please be glorified in the vessels of Your children in all nations in the name of Jesus.

BIBLE PASSAGE: 2 Timothy 2:20-21
[20]But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
[21]If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

INTRODUCTION: God can make something out of nothing and will never create anything without a purpose. He chose a small portion of the dust to form man and His breath in the nostril of man made the difference, making man a living soul (Gen.2:7). God has a purpose for all souls He created including all the resources He puts into our hands more so because no one can have anything except it is given from above. God expects the resources given to us to flow through us to benefit others and this forms the differences between a container and a vessel.

TEXT REVIEW: 2 Timothy 2:20-21.
A. The teacher should identify any six kinds of vessels in this passage.
i. ————————————————
ii. ———————————————–
iii. ———————————————- iv.———————————————–
v. ———————————————- vi.———————————————–

B. The teacher should state four ways to possess one’s vessel as a believer.
a. ———————————————
b. ———————————————
c. ———————————————
d. ———————————————

LESSON OUTLINE 1. TREASURES IN DUST

The teacher should identify and explain the treasures in the dust as follows:
i. Dust had no serious relevance to man until God touched, made and breathed into it, the breath of life. Gen.2:7.

ii. He deposited part of Himself – His Spirit – into the dust and deposited a treasure in it. Job 32:8.

iii. That small portion of dust began to move on the larger portion with authority from God. Gen.1:28.

iv. Just as the master in the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 gave talents to his servants and none was empty, so does every believer have resources deposited inside of us and no one is empty. 2Cor.4:7.

v. Our Master, Jesus Christ, has deposited great treasures into us. Eph.4:7-8.

vi. He expects us to use the resources and make profits so that He will bless us when He comes back. 1Cor.12:7; Rev.22:12.
vii. What you do with the resources is a matter of choice; you could be a container or a vessel.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The teacher should ask each student to identify what talents or gifts or abilities they have and how they use the gift for God’s glory.

LESSON OUTLINE 2. CONTAINERS OR VESSELS

A. Differences between a container and a vessel.
i. A container receives and retains whereas a vessel transports (transmits). Abraham received Isaac and was willing to release him. Gen.22:15-18

ii. A container is a reservoir but a vessel is a channel. Luke 12:16-21; Gen.12:1-3

iii. A container is basically static like pond but a vessel is dynamic. Acts 8:5-6, 26-40

iv. A container gives only when compelled but a vessel is always giving. Eccl.11:2-6

v. A container is limited in reception but a vessel is unlimited because it is constantly flowing. Jn.20:21-22; Prov.11:24.

vi. A container abides alone whereas a vessel touches many others. Jn.12:24; Acts 10:38.

B. TRANSFORMATION OF A CONTAINER TO A VESSEL

-The teacher should explain how a container can be transformed into a vessel physically and spiritually.
i. Physically: If you attach wheel(s) to a container, and pull, it becomes a vessel.

ii. Spiritually: If the Holy Spirit comes into a container the Spirit will transform the person to a vessel.

iii. Example of a container-transformed vessel was Elisha who, forsook his farm and ambition and followed Elijah. 1 Kings 19:19-21; 2 Kings 2:1-22.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The teacher should lead the students to pray that they will be vessels to honour and not containers.

SUMMARY: Be a vessel to honour and not a container.

CONCLUSION: Beware; a vessel could equally become a container. Let the one who thinks he stands take heed lest he falls (1Cor.10:12).

QUESTIONS:

*Give some examples of situations when God brought out something from nothing.
* What are the differences between a container and a vessel?

EVALUATION

i. What is an earthen vessel?
ii. Differentiate between a container and a vessel.

CLOSING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please convert many containers to vessels of honour for Your glory.

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five (5) biblical characters, with scriptural reference each, who remained vessels in God’s hand. (2×5=10 Marks).\

Theology Of Rest. RCCG Sunday School Teachers.

OPENING PRAYER: Almighty Father, please give me rest on every side, in the name of Jesus. (Scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 4 June 2023 HYMN)

MEMORY VERSE: “And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.” – Genesis 2:2 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV)

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Rest is the cessation of work or movement in order to relax or recover strength. It can also be referred to as peace, ease or refreshment. To relax means to become less tense, anxious or firm; to relieve stress; to have a milder manner. God created for six days and then He rested, not because He was tired but to set the standard for mankind to follow (Genesis 2:2-3; Exodus 20:10).

TEXT REVIEW: EXODUS 20:8-11

A. The teacher should identify five reasons why the Sabbath should be treated the way it was stated in Exodus 20:8-11.

i. ………………..

ii. ……………….

iii. ………………

iv. ……………….

v. ………………..

B. Why should it be so (2 reasons).

i. ………………..

ii. ……………….

LESSON OUTLINES

WHY REST?

HOW DO WE REST?

1. WHY REST?

The teacher should explain the following as reasons why rest is essential:

i. God rested to serve as an example for us to follow. Genesis 2:2-3.

ii. Rest is a divine command (Exodus 20:10).

iii. Rest is a gift from God to mankind. (Mark 2:27).

iv. The Lord Jesus Christ took times off to refresh and also ensured His disciples did the same. Mark 6:31; John 18:1-2.

v. When we rest we exercise our faith in God as the one who can complete everything we had started. Matthew 6:25.

vi. Rest brings about recuperation from fatigue. Luke 8:23.

vii. Rest serves as a relief from anxiety of mind and spirit. Psalm 55:22.

viii. God desires that His people should rest. Exodus 33:14; Job 11:18.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1

Despite the benefits of rest, why is it that some people still fail to rest? (Students should discuss).

2. HOW DO WE REST?

i. The teacher should allow each student to mention how they rest.

ii. The teacher should also allow each student to mention how many hours they sleep per day against the medical recommendation of six to eight hours per day.

iii. The teacher should explain the following as suggestions on how to rest:

a. We must trust God to take care of things for us. 1Peter 5:7.

b. When we obey God’s commandment we shall have peace and rest of mind. Hebrews 3:7-8; 4:11.

c. We must avoid unnecessary stressors or things that over burden our hearts and minds e.g. bills, career, families, etc. Psalm 127:2.

d. We must develop absolute faith in God. Proverbs 3:5-6.

e. We should rest properly after each day’s work. Ecclesiastes 5:12a.

f. We could have a day off (at least) to rest or relax in every week Exodus 20:10.

g. We can go on vacation or visit recreation centres to relax our brain, mind and body. John 18:1-2.

iv The teacher should point out to students that the command to rest is not an excuse to be lazy. You have to work for ‘six days’ to get to the ‘Sabbath.’

CLASS ACTIVITY 2

Students should discuss some of the reasons people give for not resting as they should.

SUMMARY

Take time out to rest.

CONCLUSION

For the Christian, the ultimate rest is found in Christ. He invites all who are weary and burdened to come to him and cast their cares on Him (Matthew 11:28; 1Peter 5:7).

CLOSING PRAYER

Father please give your children understanding to take the matter of rest seriously.

ASSIGNMENT

Do you take time to rest? Share your rest routine (No Mark).

Divorce Is Costly. RCCG Sunday School Teachers.

Opening Prayer: Almighty father, we pull down every force behind marriage break-ups in the name of Jesus.

Previous Knowledge: The Assistant Teacher should review the previous week’s lesson.

Memory Verse: “And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and loet none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth”. -Malachi 2:15.

Bible Passage: Malachi 2:13-16.

LESSON INTRODUCTION

Anyone considering divorce must have experienced months or years of struggle with their spouse. They are familiar with emotional divorce. They are familiar with emotional distance, insecurity, fear, depression, anger and perhaps betrayal. Life has become so difficult that divorce seems like the only path toward peace and happiness. Our High Priest emphatises with believers in such state (Heb. 4:15). However,  God clearly explains His reasons for esteeming marriage so highly He says it was He who “made them one” (Mal. 2:15). Marriage was God’s idea and any deviation from His design is detestable to Him. Marriage is not just a contract, it is a covenant. This is why God hates divorce and the consequences can be grievous.

LESSON AIM: To study God’s attitude to Divorce.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES:

Through this lesson, students should be able to:

a. Understand that God hates divorce.

b. Discover the grave consequences of divorce.

TEACHING PLAN: To achieve the above-stated objectives, the teacher should:

a. Explain why the sentence “I am sorry” is not enough.

b. Explain the correct way to apologise.

c. Allow the Assistant Teacher to see to the well-being of the class, and mark attendance and assignment.

d. Teach the lesson outlines, summarise, conclude, evaluate the lesson and give assignments to the students.

TEXT REVIEW : Malachi 2:13-16.

The teachers should identity five things that God raised in this passage, especially with regard to marital faithfulness.

a……………………………………………………

b……………………………………………………

c………………………………………………………….

d…………………………………………………………

e…………………………………………………………

TEACHING METHOD: The teacher should combine lecture and discussion teaching methods.

Time Management: Teachers should apply two-lesson outlines of teaching time.

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. GOD HATES DIVORCE
  2. DIVORCE HAS GRAVE CONSEQUENCES

LESSON OUTLINE ONE: GOD HATES DIVORCE

Marriage is a picture of the covenant God has with His people (1 Cor. 6:17). and He wants us to understand how serious it is. When a Husband or wife chooses to violate the covenant of marriage, it mars and makes a mockery of the God-created concept of covenant relationship (2 Cor. 11:2; Rev. 19:7-9). God never intended divorce to be a part of human experience and it grieves Him when we harden our hearts and break a covenant that He created. (Matt. 19:4-8).

Mal. 2:15 give us another reason God hates divorce. He says He is “seeking Godly offspring”. God design for the family was that one man and one woman commit themselves to each other for life and rear children that will understand the concept of covenant as well. Children reared in a healthy two-parent home have a far greater likelihood of establishing successful marriages themselves.

LESSON OUTLINE TWO: DIVORCE HAVE GREAT CONSEQUENCES

A. the teacher should point out that:

i. There is a direct connection between the way a man treats his wife and the effectiveness of his prayers.

ii. God does not listen to the please for blessing from those who have broken the covenant of marriage. (Phil. 3:7).

There is a direct correlation between the way a man treat his wife and the effectiveness of his prayers. God does not listen to the pleas for blessing from those who have broken the covenant of marriage. (1 Peter 3:7). Divorce is also associated with many negative outcomes. Here are some:

The teacher should explain the severe consequences of divorce as indicated below:

  1. Divorce is a death of a union, and therefore , the death of a dream, a promise and a family unit. Everyone involved-even a perpetrator- will feel grief and loss during a divorce. If there are children involved, they will experience severe grief over the loss of being with both parents together and living under the same roof.
  2. Divorce marks a pivotal moment in a person’s life, especially for children . life as they know it changes forever and they become become different versions of themselves , adapting to new routines and new versions of their parents (who have also changed).
  3. Children of divorced parents are more likely to experience poverty . educational failure, early and risky sexual activities, non-marital childbirth , early marriage , cohabitation , marital discord and divorce.
  4. Following a divorce, parents and children, often experience emotional and psychological problems , that can last for years, even for the rest of their lives. Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem , fear of abandonment , distrust, insecurity, lack of intimacy, confusion over security and /or gender , guilt, fruitlessness , loneliness , bitterness and rebellion manifest themselves in children who have lived through divorce of their parents.
  5. Divorce matters can lead to a poor sense of judgement especially on marital issues, increase in crime, drug/ alcohol addiction and even suicide attempt.
  6. The productivity of divorcees/divorced men may reduce at work and in their services to God.
  7. There is a chance of another divorce . Research shows that about 60 percent of divorcees/divorced men who remarry will divorce again. Realistically, most people carry the unresolved issues from their last failed marriage to the next marriage.

Class Activity 2: According to Mal.2:13-14 , what happens to the offerings made to God by men who deal treacherously with their wives?

SUMMARY: God hates divorce because it carries grave consequences.

CONCLUSION : If God hates divorce, believers should do everything possible, including consulting with the Author of marriage-God to make the marriage work.

EVALUATION: Why does God hates Divorce?

CLOSING PRAYER: Almighty God, please help spouses to remain faithful to the covenant of marriage forever and pass this godly character to their children until you come in Jesus name.

ASSIGNMENT: Give five(5) flimsy excuses couples make for divorce (2X5=10 Marks).

While it is generally opined that man is a choice being, Scriptures clearly establish that God has given man the power to choose. (Joshua 24:15), However, we live with the consequences of the choices we make whether good or bad. The onus lies on us to make the right choices which in turn determine the course of our lives.

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. COMMON CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES
  2. FACTORS THAT INFLUENCES CHOICES

LESSON OUTLINE ONE: COMMON CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES

A. There are several choices we make in life with their attendant consequences. For instance, the choices we make about food and exercises influences our physical health. (Prov. 25:16). For instance:

 i. The choices we make about our academic pursuits often affect our careers and obligations. The choices we make in reaction to life’s adversities affect our psychological well being (Prov. 24:10).

  1. The choice of where to live/settle may determine the peace or discomfort blessings or troubles we will have (Gen. 13:8-11, 19:13; 26:1-2, 12-13).
  2. The choice of who we marry will determine the bliss we enjoy or the blows we endure (Prov. 18:22; 31:28; Prov. 21:19; 1 Kings 11:4).
  3. The choice of the friends we keep will determine how far we go and the quality of life we live (Prov. 13:20; 18:24;2 Sam. 13:5;10-14,28-29).
  4. The choice we make to be different will determine whether or not we will stand out from the crowd (Dan. 1:8,19, Hebrews 11: 24-26).
  5. The choice we make whether to serve God or not will determine the eternal reward we will get (Joshua 24:15; Revelation 22:11-12).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: What can be done to forestall the consequences of a wrong choice that is already made?

LESSON OUTLINE TWO: FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE CHOICES

A. Many factors influence the choices we make in life.

A. Right Knowledge: We need to crave for the right knowledge in order to be well informed (Prov. 18:15).

ii. Self-Control: It will help guide our choices and prevent us from making irrational decisions. (James 1:19; 1 Sam. 25:10).

iii. Planning and Vision: We must make good plans and be guided by a good vision before we make a choice. (Ruth 3:1-4; Prov. 16:3,9).

iv. Prayer: More importantly , prayer will enable us to key into the mind of God. (1Sam. 30:7-8; Ps. 37:5,23).

Conversely, pride, hypocrisy, doubt, and negative thoughts among others will hinder us from making the right choices (Prov. 11:2; Ps. 10:4; Is. 32:6; James 1:8). We must strive to always have the correct mind frame all the time (Prov. 4:23).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should discuss other factors that influence people’s choices.

SUMMARY: Our choices in life are influenced by many factors , but they are not without attendant outcomes.

CONCLUSION

If we have made a wrong choice in the past, it is time to forgive ourselves and move on with life as we make necessary corrections to avoid any repetition of such.

EVALUATION: Mention the common choices and their attendant consequences.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please help me to make godly choices in Jesus name.

The Fruit Of The Holy Spirit. Part 2. RCCG Sunday School Teachers.

Memory Verse: “And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace”– James 3:18.

Bible Passage: Gal. 5:16-18.

Lesson Introduction

The life of the Christian is a constant battle between our sinful nature and our new nature in Christ. (Gal. 5:17). Unfortunately, just because we have accepted Christ does not mean we are automatically immune to sinful temptations (Romans 7:14-25). Sometimes, it may feel like we are trapped in the desire to reach for the sinful thing rather than godly thing. This does not always have to be the case. We can overcome the flesh.

LESSON AIM

To study how to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES

Through this study, students are expected to:

a. Understanding how to choose to bear fruits.

Learn how to work out their salvation.

Teaching Plan

To achieve the above stated objectives, the teacher should:

iii. They cannot,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,v17c.

C. If they be………………………………………….v18.

TEACHING METHOD: The Lecture Method.

TIME MANAGEMENT: The Teacher should apply two-less0n outlines of teaching time.

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. Choose to bear the fruit
  2. Work at it

LESSON OUTLINE ONE: CHOOSE TO BEAR THE FRUIT

A. Now that we are in Christ, we have the power to conquer the sinful desires of the flesh (2 Cor. 5:17; Romans 8:37).

B. The very presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts means we can now choose godliness over sinfulness (Phil. 1:22).

i. The choice is 100% ours. (Deut 30:19).

ii. We are no longer a slave to our sinful nature (Romans 6:14,18).

iii. We can choose love over hare, patience over hostile frustration, faithfulness over disloyalty, self-control; over lustful desires…etc.

c. This is the beauty of having the Holy Spirit. He gives us the POWER to fight (Phil. 2:13; 4:13).

d.  All we must do to tap into that power is to practice obedience to God’s word and His direction (John 15:4,10,14: Col. 3:16;Ps. 1:2-3).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The class should discuss the thin line between our emotions and exhibiting the fruit of the spirit.

LESSON OUTLINE TWO: WORK AT IT

A. Some Christians have asked if it possible to produce all the components of the fruit of the spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. This seems like a lot to work on.

i. First, we should remember that God will not give us a load we cannot bear (Matt. 11:29-30).

ii. The ‘yoke’ of bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit is not just possible , it is mandatory (Luke 1:37; Matt. 5:48).

B. However, since the enemies of our salvation-the devil and the flesh – will not given up easily on us, we are bound to face the temptation of yeilding to sin occasionally (1 Peter 5:8-10).

C. We must continue to:

i. Work at attaining perfection (Phil. 2:12).

ii. Surrender totally to the dictates of the Holy Spirit and resist the devil (James 4:7).

iii. Make no provision for the flesh (Romans 13:14).

iv. Work at bearing all the components of the fruit of the Spirit; it is possible (Phil. 4:13).

v. Daily take steps to nurture our relationship with Jesus so that we can grow to look more like him in His manner, attitude and actions (Heb. 12:2; Phil. 2:5).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The class should mention other practical steps a believer can take to produce all the fruit of the Spirit.

SUMMARY: Every believer must choose to bear the fruit of the spirit and work at attaining perfection.

CONCLUSION

Though we may struggle and fail, we will surely conquer the flesh and bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. We ought to daily strive for, work for, and yearn for the fruit of the Spirit.

EVALUATION: What should believers do to bear the fruit of the Spirit?

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, please give me the grace to produce all the components of the fruit of the Spirit.

ASSIGNMENT

Students should mention five (5) reasons why it is important for believers to bear the fruit of the spirit (2×5=10Marks).

Bible Verse: Galatians 5:22-23.

Lesson Introduction

One of the reasons Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit is top help us learn how to be more godly (John 16:12-15). The Holy Spirit will convict us of sin (John 16:8). and guide us in choosing well when faced with temptations, thus producing godly characteristics within us (Eph. 3.16; John 16:13). This is what Bible describes as the fruit of the fruit of the Spirit.

LESSON AIM: To study the Fruit of the Spirit.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES

Through the lesson, students should be able to:

a. Identify the fruit of the spirit.

b. Explain why the scriptural use of the metaphor “fruit”.

c. Realise the outcome of not bearing the fruit of the spirit.

TEXT REVIEW: Gal. 5:22-23.

Apostle Paul , while urging the Galatians (and by extension all Christians) to desist from the works of the flesh, which bring them under the bondage of the law, admonishes them to be led by the Spirit. He then drew their attention to the results of being filled with the Holy Spirit saying:

i. The fruit of the spirit is….v22-23a.

ii. Paul declares that…………………v23b.

TEACHING METHOD : The Lecture Method.

b. Allow the Assistant teacher to see to the well-being of the class, and mark attendance and assignment.
c. Teach the lesson outlines, summarise, conclude, evaluate the lesson and give assignments.

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. WHY “FRUIT?”
  2. THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT.

LESSON OUTLINE 1: WHY FRUIT

A. The Bible uses a lot of agricultural metaphors because they were easily understood by the highly agricultural culture of the time.

B. The “fruit” of the Spirit” refers to the “results” we should see in our lives after receiving the Holy Spirit and working on our hearts over time. (Romans 8:9, 12:1-2).

C. The Apostle Paul give us the componenets of the “fruit” as …love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self control. Galatians 5:21-22.

D. The “fruit” metaphor helps to see our faith as a tree with branches that may or may not produce fruit, depending on how well we take care of the tree itself.

i. If we give the tree nourishment (Gods word) – 1 Peter 1:23; 2:2 then it will grow bigger.

If we clear away weeds and insects (sinful tendencies)- Eph. 4: 22-31; Col. 3:8-10, then we keep the trees healthy.

iii. If we consult the “professional Gardener (God)– 1 Chro. 16:11, then we will ensure we are on the right track.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Is it possible for a Spirit-filled Christian not to exhibit some of the constituents of the fruits of the Holy Spirit ? If Yes/NO, explain.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE OPPOSITE OF BEARING FRUIT

A. If you are a Christian, and you are not exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit in your life.

i. At best, you will experience stagnation no-growth (James 2:14-26).

ii. At worst, the result of “bad fruit” is death (Romans 6:20-23; Proverbs 14:12).

B. Note that Galatians 5:22 starts with the word “But”. The Apostle Paul tell us the opposite of these spiritual fruit.

C. Let us take a look at some of the verses just before the fruit list. ” Now the work of the flesh are manifest, which are these ” adultery, fornication, uncleanliness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, sedition, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, rebelling, and such like : of the which I tell you before . as I have told you in the time past, that they which do such things, shall not inherit the kingdom of God”.– Gal. 5:19-21. This is a list of things that someone who does not have the Holy Spirit’s influence would have problem with.

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Is a Christian who is still manifesting the works of the flesh really saved?

SUMMARY: The faith of a believer (one filled with the Holy Spirit) is like a tree with branches that if well cared for will produce fruit but if neglected has grave consequence.

CONCLUSION

On one hand, our sinfulness produces rotted, poisoned fruit, which reflects our sinful nature and hurts in the end. On the other hand, the Holy Spirit produces beautiful , nourishing fruit that reflects God’s nature and will ultimately benefit our lives.

EVALUATION

What becomes of a Christian that is not exhibiting the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

CLOSING PRAYER

Father, please destroy every sinful habit preventing me from bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

ASSIGNMENT

Provide five (5) evidences that you have the fruit of the spirit (2×5=10 Marks).

Memory Verse: And I set my face unto the Lord God to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth and ashes”-Daniel 9:3.

Bible Passage: Daniel 10:2-3.

Lesson Introduction

Fasting, in the bible, is total abstinence from pleasure-giving activities for a set time, to devote oneself to seeking God. While there are many ways believers could fast, too often, the focus is on abstinence from food. In this lesson, we shall examine different types of biblical fast, basic cautions and reasons for fasting.

Through this lesson, students should be able to:

a. Give the meaning of biblical fast.

b. Explain the different types of biblical fasts.

c. Outline the reasons for biblical fasts.

d. Mention the cautions to be exercised while fasting.

Teaching Plan

TEXT REVIEW : Daniel 10:2-3.

Prophet Daniel was a man full of God’s spirit and wisdom. In many ways , he proved his unwavering devotion to God. One of such ways is through fasting. This passage records that:

i. He mourned for three weeks…………………………….v2.

ii. …………………………………………………….v3a.

iii. ……………………………………………….v3b.

iv. Neither did he…………………………..v3c.

v. Till………………………………………….v3d.

TEACHING METHOD: The Lecture Method.

Time Management : Standard time for (2) lesson outlines.

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. TYPES OF FAST IN THE BIBLE.
    2. REASONS AND BASIC CAUTIONS.

TYPES OF FAST IN THE BIBLE

The teacher should first ask students to mention the types of fast known to them and then highlight the types as follows:

a. Food fast

b. Sex fast.

c. Pleasure fast.

The Teacher should explain each of the types highlighted above as follows:

  1. Food fast: This is abstinence from food /drinks. It may take the form of:

a. Regular fast: this is done by abstaining from all foods, both solid and liquid (2 Chro. 20:3). The fast is usually broken daily or periodically (Jer. 36:6).

b. Partial Fast: This is inspired by Prophet Daniel. All meat and animal products are disallowed. The Daniel Fast includes vegetables, legumes, whole grains, seeds, and water. These guidelines are based on Daniel’s request of “nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink” (Daniel 1:8-14).

c. Absolute or Full Fast: Where no food or water is consumed (Esther 4:16; Acts 27:33). For instance, Moses, Elijah, and the Lord Jesus Christ did a forty days absolute fast (Deuteronomy 9:9; 1 Kings 19:7-8; Luke 4:2).

2. Sex fast: The Bible also refers to ‘sexual fast’ (Ex. 19:15). A married couple can mutually agree to abstain from sex for a short period to devote themselves to prayers (1 Cor. 7:5).

3. Pleasure Fast: Another way is to confine or isolate oneself from people and pleasurable things to a place as a means of worship, studying the bible and praying to God for a purpose (Luke 2:36-37;5:16). Time alone with God requires discipline.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Scripturally, speaking is there a general rule to the time of breaking a fast?

NB: Please if you find this App useful, please leave a Review for us. You should also share the App with your friends and brethren as well. Sharing is Caring.

REASONS AND BASIC CAUTIONS

A. Fasting is far more about focusing on God than abstinence from food and other things that gives pleasure (Zech. 7:5).

People fast for various reasons. Some for:

i. Spiritual strength (Is. 40:30-31).

ii. Supernatural revelation, wisdom and understanding (Ezra 8:21, Daniel 9:22).

iii. Supernatural breakthrough (Zech. 8:19).

iv. Repentance from sinful ways (Joel 2:12-13; Daniel 9:3-5).

v. Spiritual hunger and demonstration of love for God’s people and burden for souls (2 Cor. 11:27-28; Matt. 5:6).

vi. Sharing with the poor and destruction of wicked works among others (Is. 58:6-7).

C. Believers should exercise some cautions while fasting.

i. Fasting should be limited to a set time and a clear purpose (1 Cor. 7:5; Esther 4:16).

ii. It is neither intended to punish the body nor a dieting method (Is. 58:5) but to redirect attention to God.

  7. To be able to withstand and confront the forces of darkness that seek to destroy God’s children (Eph. 6:12-13).
  8. To cast out unclean spirits (Matt. 17:19-21).
  9. For restoration (Judges 16:28) and when agonised (1 Sam. 1:10).
  10. To bring the flesh under (Matt. 16:41; 2 Cor. 10:3-5) and always look up unto God (Ps. 5:3).

  5. Give yourself to prayers (Ps. 109:4).
  6. Delight in God when praying (Job 22:26-27).
  7. Pray with confidence that God hears and answers will come (John 5:14-15).
