Jira Project Management: Enhancing Your Team's Workflow

Jira Project Management: Enhancing Your Team’s Workflow

Jira project management is a widely used software development tool that helps agile teams plan, track, release, report, and automate projects. Jira software is a free tool that supports any agile methodology. It helps you plan, track, and manage your agile software development projects from a single tool with features like sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint reports, and more.

What is Jira Used for in Project Management?

Jira is a project management tool that is used by teams to plan, track, and manage their workflows and projects. It is an intuitive and agile platform that enables teams to dynamically organize projects, and define, assign, and prioritize tasks. Jira offers numerous features like sprints for Scrum management and other agile boards like Kanban, allowing teams to effectively and efficiently manage their projects.

One of the primary uses of Jira in project management is issue tracking. Issues are used to track tasks, bugs, and other work items that need to be completed as part of a project. Issues can be assigned to team members, prioritized, and tracked for progress. Jira also provides various agile tools for Scrum and Kanban methodologies, allowing teams to manage and visualize project progress.

Jira is also used for project planning and management. With Jira, teams can create and manage project plans, define project scope, and track project progress. Jira provides tools for project managers to track project milestones, identify project risks, and manage project budgets.

Another use of Jira in project management is collaboration. Jira provides a platform for teams to collaborate on projects, share information, and communicate with each other. Jira allows team members to work together in real-time, making it easier for teams to stay on track and meet project deadlines.

Overall, Jira is a versatile project management tool that can be used for a wide range of project management tasks. Whether you are tracking issues, managing projects, or collaborating with team members, Jira provides a platform that can help you get the job done.

Is Jira a Good Tool for Project Management?

One of the main advantages of Jira is its flexibility. It is highly customizable and can be tailored to fit various project management methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum, and Kanban. This makes it a suitable tool for teams of different sizes and industries.

Another benefit of Jira is its ability to track and manage tasks efficiently. It allows teams to break down complex projects into smaller, manageable tasks, assign them to team members, and track progress in real time. This helps teams stay on top of their work and ensures that deadlines are met.

Jira also has a robust reporting system that provides valuable insights into project performance. It generates reports on project progress, team performance, and issue tracking, among others. This helps project managers identify areas that need improvement and make informed decisions based on data.

However, Jira may not be the best tool for all types of projects. It is primarily designed for software development teams, and some of its features may not be relevant for other industries. Additionally, Jira’s learning curve can be steep, and it may take some time for teams to get used to its interface and features.

Magnify Our Incomparable Lord. AG Sunday School Teachers Manual.

Memory Verse: Psalms 86:5 – For thou, LORD, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee (KJV).

Lesson Bible Text:
Psalms 86 and 146

Lesson Central Truth:
There is no god like the Lord God.

INTRODUCING THE LESSON

Throughout this unit, we have explored many facets on what it means to worship the Lord. It is fitting that the unit ends with a focus on magnifying the Lord–lifting high our allegiance to Him above everyone and everything else in our lives. In Psalm 86 and 146, we find an emphasis on mercy followed by a declaration that He will reign forever. May our joy over these realities flow freely from our lives in both our worship and in our declaration of the Lord to the world around us.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. COMMUNE WITH THE INCOMPARABLE GOD

A. Call Upon The Lord – Psalm 86:1-7
B. No Other God’s Are Like Him – Psalm 86:8-10.

2. LEARN FROM THE MERCIFUL GOD
A. “Teach Me Your Ways” – Psalm 86:11-13
B. “Have Mercy On Me” – Psalm 86:14-17

3. GOD REIGNS SUPREME FOREVER

A. “Let All That I Am Praise The Lord” – Psalm 146:1-2
B. Have Confidence In God – Psalm 146:3-10.

LESSON NUGGETS
1. COMMUNE WITH THE INCOMPARABLE GOD

Psalm 86:1-10
️ Psalm 86 opens with a prayer similar to what we studied in Psalm 113:6, as God is said to stoop low to engage with his people. Here, the Psalmist pleads, “Bend down, O LORD, and hear my prayer.” Such a request recognizes God’s exalted position as well as the Psalmist’s desperate need to hear from Him. This is similar to the place we often find ourselves when we go to prayer. we can see from the prayer of Psalmist (David) who has a proper perspective by looking unto God during his troubles.

While he finds himself in a difficult situation he remains confident that God hears and is able to save him. He is sure that even though his situation is dire, his God is bigger and desires to show mercy to those whom He loves. David believes that God hears and answers prayers. Despite the fact his enemies continued to threaten him, David maintained his confidence in the unchanging righteous character and loving mercy of the Lord.

The psalmist is still in distress, but his thoughts turn again to the greatness of his God. Note that the psalmist lived in a day when the nations round about Israel each worshipped its own national gods — Baal, Asherah, Bel, Dagon, etc. These so-called gods are nothing compared to the true God; non of their supposed works are anything like our great God deeds.

Now the psalmist declares that all the nations that once served these false gods will come to worship before the true God and bring Him glory. David declared that our God does “wondrous things” ie an act that go beyond human understanding and reason.

Still today, miracles testify to the reality of our God. They reveal a God who is able to do even the unimaginable on behalf of His people. As believers, when we declare our incomparable God to an unbelieving world around us, we can do so knowing He will do great things, and even miraculous, as we place our trust in Him.

2. LEARN FROM THE MERCIFUL GOD
Psalm 86:11-17

️ Because David knew who God is and his natural reaction was to submit himself to this great, gracious God and to ask Him to teach him.

David’s desire was to be taught God’s way. Could this be our desire cum request on a daily basis? Oftentimes, when we pray, we are concerned about deliverance, help, guidance, financial breakthroughs, and so much related issue. But we are not nearly as concerned to be taught God’s way and to be helped to serve Him with an undivided heart.

This determination to teach God’s way gave integrity to David’s request. He wanted to be taught so that he could live and then walk in God’s truth. This David’s request to teach God’s way and to walk in His truth wasn’t merely to satisfy intellectual curiosity or to win arguments; it was to live for Him in all ramifications.

Many people today, study God’s word just to win arguments and nothing more. Let our desire be like that of Psalmist: “Teach us Your ways, O Lord, that we may live according to your truth! Grant us purity of heart, that we may honor you.”

️ David thought about God’s past deliverance in his life. The merciful God who rescued him before would rescue him again. David encountered numerous life threatening challenges from his enemies and the victory he got was as a result of God’s mercy.

As believers, we must know that the life battles are too fearful and our victory can only come through God’s mercy–not by our strength, not by our technical know-how and not by who we know. Through all that David went through, he never approached God on the basis of what he deserved. Anything he received from God, he would receive on the basis of mercy.

David appeals to God’s mercy, grace, and steadfast Love to deliver him. God’s mercy and grace is essential to the salvation of all men. Without it, we would have “no hope” of being saved. God gave David the strength to deal with his challenges and overcome them.

With God’s grace he could have victory each day. We can have this same assurance today because we trust and serve the same God that was with the Psalmist. By His mercy, we are victorious in Christ!

3. GOD REIGNS SUPREME FOREVER
Psalm 146

️ The Psalmist made a declaration of praise to God: “Praise the Lord! Let all that I am praise the Lord.” David called upon his own soul to give God praise, and others to give praise as well.

When we praise God, we vocalize our appreciation to God. We adore Him, verbally, for who He is, what He
has done and what He is yet to do. At the centre of our praise is Jesus – He must be the focus of our adoration.

The Psalmist went on to caution us against confidence in man. “Do not put your trust in princes.” God is to be praised and not man. No man is worthy of praise. We are sure to be disappointed when we put our trust in a man for whom there is no help.

This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans and turn their hearts away from the Lord” (Jeremiah 17:5). Only our matchless God deserves our total praise.

️ “Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help.” Men are full of disappointment, but God never disappoints the one who hopes in Him.

The singer gives us more reasons for confidence in God. When we trust in the LORD as the Creator of all things, we realize He has the power to help us and deliver us that even great men do not have. God can also be trusted because He is a moral and upright God.

He champions justice for the oppressed and also cares for those who are in need. For the hungry He provides food and for prisoners He provides freedom.

God shows great love and compassion to the poor, afflicted, and needy. Yet the Lord also brings justice against the wicked and turns their way upside down.

In all this, we see a God of power, holiness, and love. This is our God who can be trusted with full confidence. The LORD shall reign forever, even to all generations. Praise the Lord!

Lesson Action Word:
We are duty-bound to magnify our incomparable Lord and trust in His character.

Lesson Prayer Point:
Father, we magnify and lift Your Name high above all other gods.

Remain blessed as you join us in our Sunday school both online and at any Assemblies Of God Church close to you as we study together under the Feet of the Master.

Issues Of Honesty. AG Teen Sunday School Manual.

Text: Exo 20:15-17; Deut 5:21; Psalm 15:1-5; Prov 19:5; Matt 15:18-19; Luke 12:15; Col 3:5-6, 9-10; 1 Tim 6:9-10

KEY VERSE: Hebrew 13:5

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” (NIV)

Focus
For many teens, cheating is simply a game of wits in which they take great pleasure in outsmarting adults and one another. But God is not fooled by all the excuses people give for this wrong behavior. The Bible is clear and emphatic about the nature and consequences of deceptive behavior: it’s like the devil (John 8:44), God hates it (Prov 12:22), and it brings judgment (Prov 19:5).

This week’s study focuses on issues of honesty – with ourselves, others, and God. Our compliance to or defiance of God’s commands regarding stealing, lying, and envy reveal our level of contentment and trust in God.

As you prepare this study, take the message to heart and examine your own life for hidden deception and dissatisfaction. Has your behavior been free of moral compromise? Have your conversations been free of slander? Have your desires been in line with God’s? Take time this week to let God continue perfecting His truth in your life. And if you need to make things right with someone else, trust Him for the strength to face your failures and find the freedom that His truth brings.

The Basic Message: Explain to students..

WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?

God requires us to be honest with Him, others, and ourselves.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Stealing, lying, and coveting all Indicate discontentment, which reflects distrust toward God and disregard for His commands.
HOW DO I LIVE IT?

Commit to complete honesty, seeking forgiveness from God and others for past failures.

Activity Option: HONESTY

Discuss with students the following questions:
• How important do you think most people consider honesty? Why?

Guide: Read or have a volunteer read Exo 20:15-17. Explain that our culture is becoming increasingly tolerant of dishonesty. As Christians, we need to be careful not to fall into this trap. Dishonesty may seem convenient, the easy way out of trouble, or the quick road to success. But deception has consequences.

Study Overview: Explain that today’s study considers..

• How God’s commands against stealing and cheating apply to so many areas teens might not realize.
• How God expects us to be honest in our dealings with and about others.
• How wishing for what others have often shown distrust and discontentment toward God.

Inform and Discuss

a). To Catch a Thief
Teacher Hint: Read or have a volunteer read Exo 20:15. Explain that while many people will admit that stealing is wrong, a lot of people still compromise this command without even realizing it.

1. Beyond shoplifting and armed robbery, how do people steal from others? When and where does stealing take place?

Guide: Challenge students to think of more subtle behaviors that constitute stealing.

2. What are some reasons people might use to justify stealing?

Note: As a worker, even if you’re not being paid what you think is fair, you cannot make up for it by stealing. God holds us accountable for whatever we do, just as He holds others for theirs.

b). Nothing but the Truth

Teacher Hint: Read or have a volunteer read Exo 20:16. Explain that the Ninth Commandment protects the reputations of others. It forbids making false statements about someone’s character or actions. And it also prohibits lying in general.

1. Read or have a volunteer read Prov 19:5. Discuss with students some of the consequences of dishonesty. You, or a volunteer, may be willing to share from a personal experience.

Guide: Explain that Christians should refrain from lying for reasons other than the threat of punishment. Slander and lying are part of the old sinful life we must abandon (Col 3:9-10); it separates us from God.

2. Read or have a volunteer read Psalm 15:1-5. Why is it wrong to slander (i.e., speak falsely about) other people?
Guide: Explain that slander involves defaming, denigrating, or vilifying others with inferences or words. Such actions can destroy someone’s reputation, relationships, livelihood, and self-image. Even a person’s faith and perception of God can be distorted when someone, especially a supposed Christian, bring false accusations against him or her.

c). Desire and Discontentment

Teacher Hint: Read or have volunteers read Exo 20:17; Deut .5:21. Explain that coveting involves a lust to have something that belongs to another person-e.g., possessions, social standing or success, personal relationships, etc.

1. How does envy or covetousness affect a person’s relationship with the one they envy or their attitude toward the thing they want? [Hint: A strong desire can become an obsession, sparking jealousy, bitterness, lying, stealing, character assassination, hatred, and other sins. Envy and jealousy show contempt for others -and for God.

2. Read or have volunteers read Luke 12:15; and Heb 13:5. Discuss with students what it means to be content and how people become Content. [Guide: Point out that the root cause of each of the issues in this study (stealing, lying, and coveting) is often discontentment with what we have, which reflects disregard and distrust of God’s care and provision.

3. Read or have volunteers read Col 3:5-6; 1 Tim 6:9-10. In what ways can the desire and pursuit of wealth lead to trouble, spiritually and otherwise?
>>Note: Greed or covetousness is IDOLATRY (Col 3:5-6). It puts other things in front of dependence on God and ultimately brings judgment.

Involve Them: SELF-EVALUATION

Enlarge, duplicate, and distribute to students copies of the cards below. Ask them to complete the statements in the cards as honestly as possible. They will not be asked to reveal their answers. Some statements may have more than one answer, depending on how they feel to respond.

1. When I feel I don’t have the things I need, I
…feel frustrated and angry.
….try to find a way to earn money to buy them.
…feel my parents don’t understand my needs.
…feel jealous of friends who have what I want.
..accept it and forget about it.
…feel I’m treated unfairly.
…complain.
…pray about it.

2. When I’m with people who don’t have as much as I have, I
…don’t compare what we own.
…accept them as they are.
…feel superior.

3. When I’m with people who have more than I have, I
…feel jealous and/or inferior.
…wish I had what they had.
…don’t compare what we own.
…feel as relaxed as I do with other people.
…feel happy for what they’re able lo have

4. When I think about what I own, I
..feel satisfied and grateful.
..feel I need more.

5. When new items and Fashions come on the market, I

…take a little notice.
…bug my parents until they buy them for me.
…buy the biggest and the best as soon as possible.
…realize I don’t need them because I have plenty.
…save the money and buy them myself.

6. When someone is better than i am at something, I

…dislike him or her.
…avoid him or her.
…point out his or her imperfections in other areas.
…try to do better myself.
…admire him or her.
…feel happy for him or her.

7. When I meet someone with a really wonderful relationship (with his/her family, friend, etc.), I
…hate and talk down my own relationships.
…feel jealous.
…try to make my own relationships sound better.
…try to cause problems between them.
…try to be around them as much as possible.

>>Guide: When they’re through, ask them to take a few minutes to study their answers. Encourage them to sincerely rate themselves; and commit to improve on themselves or make amends where necessary. Have students keep the card as a prayer reminder.

>>Inspire Them: Remind students of “The Basic Message” of this study (pg 65), explain WHAT the Big Idea behind the study is; WHY it matters; and HOW we can live the lesson captured in the study.

Conclude the session by having a time of silent prayer with students. Encourage them to repent of any wrongdoing and commit to honest dealing with God and others. Remind them that God also expects us to make things right (Lev 6:1-5). Assure them that God can forgive and provide them the strength to confront past failures and make restitution with others.

Teacher Hint: Ask Yourself…
1. Can the students describe more subtle behaviors that fall in the area of stealing?
2. Can they explain the consequences of lying?
3. Do they understand that they must not only guard against wrong words and actions but also wrong motives and desires?
4. Have they had the opportunity to commit to complete honesty to themselves, others, and God?

Project Management Templates: Tools For Simpler Processes

Project management templates are pre-designed documents that help project managers and teams to organize their work, track progress, and communicate effectively. They provide a framework for project management activities, making it easier to manage complex projects.

Project management templates come in various formats, including Excel, Word, PDF, and Google Sheets. They are designed to meet different project management needs, such as task lists, Gantt charts, project timelines, risk management plans, and project budgets. These templates can be customized to suit specific project requirements, and they can be used by project managers in different industries, including construction, IT, healthcare, and finance.

What are Templates in Project Management?

Templates in project management are pre-designed documents that provide a framework for planning, executing, and monitoring a project. They are essential tools for project managers as they help standardize project processes, improving communication, and increase efficiency.

Templates can be used for various project management tasks, such as creating a project charter, developing a project plan, tracking progress, and reporting project status. They can be customized to fit the needs of a specific project or organization.

Benefits of Project Management Templates

1. They save time and effort as project managers do not have to start from scratch every time they need to create a document.
2. They help in ensuring consistency and quality across all project documents.
3. They reduce errors and mistakes as they provide a standardized format for project information.

How Do You Write a Project Management Document?

A project management document is a formal document that outlines how a project will be executed, monitored, and controlled. It is a critical tool for project managers to ensure that all stakeholders are on the same page and that the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the expected quality standards. Here are some steps to follow when writing a project management document:

Step 1: Define the Project Scope

The first step in writing a project management document is to define the project scope. This involves identifying what the project will deliver and what it will not deliver. The project scope should be clearly defined and agreed upon by all stakeholders to avoid misunderstandings or scope creep.

Step 2: Develop a Work Breakdown Structure

A work breakdown structure (WBS) is a hierarchical decomposition of the project into smaller, more manageable components. It helps to organize the project work into smaller, more manageable tasks and activities. The WBS should be developed in collaboration with the project team and should be reviewed and updated regularly as the project progresses.

Step 3: Identify Risks and Mitigation Strategies

Identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies is an important part of project management. Risks can be identified by brainstorming with the project team, reviewing historical data, and conducting risk assessments. Once risks are identified, mitigation strategies should be developed to minimize their impact on the project.

Step 4: Define Roles and Responsibilities

Defining roles and responsibilities is critical to the success of the project. This involves identifying who will be responsible for each task and activity, and what their specific responsibilities will be. This information should be documented in the project management document and communicated to all stakeholders.

Step 5: Develop a Project Schedule

Developing a project schedule involves identifying the tasks and activities required to complete the project and determining the sequence of those tasks. A project schedule should include start and end dates for each task, as well as dependencies between tasks. The schedule should be reviewed and updated regularly to ensure that the project is on track.

Does Excel Have a Project Management Template?

Excel is a widely used spreadsheet software that can be used for various purposes, including project management. The software comes with different templates that can be used to manage projects more efficiently. However, the question remains: Does Excel have a project management template?

The answer is yes. Excel has several project management templates that can be used to plan and track projects. These templates can be customized to fit the specific needs of a project and can help teams stay on track and meet their goals.

How do I Create a Project Management Plan in Excel?

Excel is a popular tool for project management due to its availability, familiarity, and cost-effectiveness. Creating a project management plan in Excel involves several steps, including defining the scope, identifying tasks, setting deadlines, and assigning responsibilities. Here are some tips to help you create a project management plan in Excel:

#1 Define the scope

The first step in creating a project management plan is to define the scope of the project. This involves identifying the goals, objectives, and deliverables of the project. You can create a scope statement in Excel by using a table or bullet points to list the key elements of the project.

#2 Identify tasks

Once you have defined the scope of the project, the next step is to identify the tasks that need to be completed to achieve the project goals. You can create a task list in Excel by using a table or a list of bullet points. Each task should be clearly defined and include a description, deadline, and assigned team member.

#3  Set deadlines

Setting deadlines is crucial to ensuring that the project stays on track. You can create a timeline in Excel by using a Gantt chart template or by creating a table that lists the start and end dates for each task.

#4 Assign responsibilities

Assigning responsibilities to team members is essential to ensuring that everyone knows what they need to do and when. You can create a responsibility matrix in Excel by using a table that lists the tasks and the team members responsible for each task.

By following these steps, you can create a project management plan in Excel that will help you stay organized and on track throughout the project.

Conclusion

In conclusion, project management templates are essential tools that can help project managers plan, execute, and monitor their projects more effectively. These templates can save time, reduce errors, and improve communication among team members.

One advantage of project management templates is that they can be customized to meet the specific needs of a project. For example, a project manager can choose a template that focuses on risk management if the project involves a high level of risk. Similarly, a project manager can choose a template that focuses on stakeholder management if the project involves multiple stakeholders.

Forgive As You Are Forgiven. AG Daily Devotional.

Wednesday 27th September 2023

KEY VERSE:

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy”(Matthew 5:7).

TODAY’S READING

Matt 18:22 – 35

ONE-YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN
Nehemiah 6-7

COMMENTARY

Here we see that one of the attributes of the children of God, followers of Jesus Christ, is being merciful just as God is merciful, “Therefore, be merciful just as your Father also is merciful” (Luke 6:36).

The implications are that we should forgive offenders as God does; we should be compassionate as God is; we should be kind as God is and we should be gracious as God is. What a beautiful home, community, Church, and nation we would have if we all possessed this Divine attribute!

Let it be stated that mercy is not obtained on a silver platter. It is difficult to let go a debtor or an offender of any degree or do good to anyone who doesn’t deserve it. Based on this, the candidate for mercy must humble himself, swallow his pride and ego and sincerely plead for mercy, either from God or human beings.

In Matt 18:22-35, the narrative is about a certain servant whose debt was canceled by his master because he didn’t have the money to pay. His master showed him mercy because he pleaded with him. He wasn’t arrogant; he didn’t insult his master but displayed deep humility which attracted pity. His example is worthy of emulation.

However, this same man who enjoyed such magnitude of mercy refused to extend the same to his fellow servant who owed him much less and who also pleaded for mercy, yet he hardened his heart and threw him into prison till he should pay all that he owed him. This news got to his master who quickly revoked his debt cancellation.

Hence, we should be merciful to one another as God is merciful to us (Eph 4:32). Those who are merciful shall continually enjoy God’s mercy and the blessings thereof.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
Show mercy when men are at your mercy.

PRAYER

Lord, help me to be like you in being merciful to my fellow men. Take away from me the spirit of pride, arrogance, wickedness and vindictiveness.

Excel Project Management: Optimize Your Workflow Using These Strategies

Excel is a powerful tool that can be used for project management. With its ability to organize and analyze data, Excel is a popular choice for project managers who want to track project progress, manage budgets, and communicate with team members and stakeholders.

Excel can be customized to fit the needs of any project, from small to large, and can be used to create Gantt charts, task lists, and other project management tools.

One of the benefits of using Excel for project management is its flexibility. Excel can be used to create custom templates that fit the specific needs of a project, and can be easily updated as the project progresses.

This makes it easy for project managers to track progress, manage resources, and make adjustments as needed. Excel can also be used to create reports and visualizations that help project managers communicate project status to stakeholders.

Excel is also a cost-effective solution for project management. Unlike specialized project management software, Excel is widely available and can be used by anyone with a basic understanding of spreadsheets.

This makes it an ideal choice for small businesses or teams with limited budgets. With the right templates and tools, Excel can be a powerful tool for project management that helps teams stay organized and on track.

Excel in Project Management

Excel is a widely used software that businesses and individuals use for various purposes, including project management. In this section, we will explore why Excel is a popular choice for project management and its role in managing projects.

Why Excel for Project Management?

Small teams and businesses prefer using Excel for project management due to its availability, familiarity, and cost-effectiveness. Excel is readily available on most computers and does not require additional software or licenses. Moreover, most people are familiar with Excel and its basic functions, making it easy to get started with Excel project management quickly.

Another reason why Excel is a popular choice for project management is its flexibility. Excel provides users with the ability to customize templates, formulas, and charts according to their specific needs. This flexibility allows project managers to create unique project management tools that cater to their team’s requirements.

Excel’s Role in Project Management

Excel plays a vital role in project management by providing project managers with the tools to visualize, plan, and track their projects. Here are some ways Excel can be used in project management:

1. Gantt Charts: Excel’s Gantt chart template allows project managers to create visual representations of project timelines, including task dependencies and milestones.

2. Budgeting: Excel’s budgeting templates allow project managers to create and manage project budgets, including tracking expenses, forecasting costs, and analyzing financial data.

3. Task Lists: Excel’s task list templates allow project managers to create and track project tasks, including deadlines, priority levels, and task owners. Task lists help project managers stay organized and ensure that tasks are completed on time.

4. Reporting: Excel’s reporting templates allow project managers to create project status reports, including progress updates, risk assessments, and performance metrics. Reporting templates provide stakeholders with a clear understanding of the project’s progress and help identify potential issues.

Setting Up a Project in Excel

Excel is a powerful tool for project management, allowing users to create and track project plans, timelines, and Gantt charts. Here we will discuss the key steps involved in setting up a project in Excel.

#1 Creating a Project Plan

The first step in setting up a project in Excel is to create a project plan. This should include a detailed description of the project, including its objectives, scope, and deliverables. It should also include a list of tasks and sub-tasks, along with their dependencies and timelines.

To create a project plan in Excel, users can use a template or create their own spreadsheet. They should start by creating a table with columns for task name, start date, end date, duration, and dependencies. They can then add additional columns as needed, such as status, priority, and assigned resources.

#2 Building a Gantt Chart

Once the project plan has been created, users can build a Gantt chart to visualize the project timeline. A Gantt chart displays the start and end dates of each task in a horizontal bar chart, allowing users to see the overall timeline of the project at a glance.

To create a Gantt chart in Excel, users can use a template or create their own chart. They should start by adding the task names to the left-hand side of the chart, and the timeline along the top. They can then add horizontal bars to represent each task, with the length of the bar indicating the duration of the task.

#3  Developing a Project Timeline

Finally, users should develop a project timeline to track the progress of the project. A project timeline should include key milestones and deadlines, along with the status of each task.

To create a project timeline in Excel, users can use a template or create their own spreadsheet. They should start by adding the key milestones and deadlines to the timeline, along with the start and end dates of each task. They can then add additional columns to track the status of each task, such as completed, in progress, or not started.

Advanced Excel Functions for Project Management

Excel is a powerful tool for project management, and with a little bit of know-how, users can take their project management skills to the next level. Here are some advanced Excel functions that can help project managers streamline their work and increase productivity.

#1 Using Pivot Tables

Pivot tables are a powerful tool in Excel that can help project managers analyze large amounts of data quickly and easily. With pivot tables, users can quickly create summaries of data, filter and sort data, and create charts and graphs to visualize data.

For project managers, pivot tables can be used to analyze project data such as budgets, timelines, and team member performance. By using pivot tables, project managers can quickly identify trends and patterns in their data, which can help them make informed decisions about their projects.

#2  Applying Conditional Formatting

Conditional formatting is a feature in Excel that allows users to apply formatting to cells based on certain criteria. For project managers, this can be a powerful tool for tracking project progress and identifying potential issues.

For example, project managers can use conditional formatting to highlight cells that are behind schedule or over budget. This can help project managers quickly identify areas of the project that need attention and take corrective action before it’s too late.

#3 Leveraging Data Validation

Data validation is a feature in Excel that allows users to control the type of data that can be entered into a cell. For project managers, this can be a powerful tool for ensuring data accuracy and consistency.

For example, project managers can use data validation to ensure that team members enter data in a specific format, such as dates or currency. This can help project managers avoid errors and ensure that their data is accurate and consistent.

Project Tracking and Reporting in Excel

Project tracking and reporting are crucial aspects of project management. In Excel, project managers can use various tools to monitor project progress and generate reports that communicate project status to stakeholders.

– Monitoring Project Progress

Excel provides project managers with the ability to track project progress in real-time. By using Gantt charts, project managers can visualize the project timeline and identify potential delays or issues that may arise. Gantt charts can also help project managers allocate resources and prioritize tasks.

Another useful tool for tracking project progress in Excel is the project dashboard. Project dashboards provide an overview of all project activities, including milestones, task status, and resource allocation. With a project dashboard, project managers can quickly identify areas that require attention and take corrective action to keep the project on track.

– Generating Project Reports

Excel is a powerful tool for generating project reports. Project managers can use Excel to create various types of reports, including status reports, budget reports, and resource allocation reports. By using Excel’s built-in formulas and functions, project managers can quickly calculate and analyze project data to generate reports that communicate project status to stakeholders.

One popular report format in Excel is the pivot table. Pivot tables allow project managers to summarize large amounts of data and generate reports that highlight key project metrics. Pivot tables can also be used to identify trends and patterns in project data, which can help project managers make informed decisions about project direction.

Limitations of Excel in Project Management

Excel is a widely used tool for project management, but it does have its limitations. This section will discuss some of the limitations of using Excel for project management.

#1 Lack of Real-Time Collaboration

Excel is a desktop application, which means that it cannot provide real-time collaboration features. Team members need to share files back and forth, which can lead to version control issues. It can be challenging to keep track of who made what changes and when. This lack of real-time collaboration can slow down the project and lead to delays.

#2 Limited Automation Capabilities

Excel is not designed to automate project management tasks. This means that team members need to manually update the project plan, status, and other information. This manual process can be time-consuming and prone to errors. Additionally, Excel does not have built-in workflows, which means that team members need to create their own processes.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Excel is a powerful tool for project management that can help streamline processes and increase efficiency. With the right templates and techniques, project managers can use Excel to create detailed project plans, track progress, and manage resources.

One of the biggest advantages of using Excel for project management is its flexibility. Excel can be customized to fit the specific needs of a project, whether it’s a simple task list or a complex Gantt chart. Management Project: Tips for Successful Execution

Project management involves applying knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to meet project requirements and ensure successful project completion. Project management is a critical process in any organization, as it helps to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

What is the Meaning of Project Management?

Project management is the process of planning, organizing, and managing resources to achieve specific goals within a defined timeline. It involves the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to meet project requirements. The primary objective of project management is to deliver the project on time, within budget, and with the desired quality.

The Project Management Triangle

The project management triangle, also known as the triple constraint or iron triangle, is a model that illustrates the three main constraints of any project: time, cost, and scope. These constraints are interdependent, and any change in one will affect the other two. The triangle is a useful tool for project managers to balance these constraints and ensure that the project is completed successfully.

Project Lifecycle

The project lifecycle is the series of phases that a project goes through from initiation to closure. There are typically five phases in a project lifecycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closure. Each phase has specific deliverables and objectives that must be met before moving on to the next phase.

Project Management Methodologies

There are several project management methodologies that can be used to manage projects, including Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, Kanban, Lean, PRINCE2, and Six Sigma. Each methodology has its own approach and set of principles, and the choice of methodology will depend on the specific needs and requirements of the project.

Project Management Tools

Project management tools are software applications that help project managers plan, execute, and monitor projects. Some popular project management tools include Microsoft Project, Asana, Trello, and Smartsheet. These tools can help project managers track progress, manage resources, and communicate with team members.

Project Planning

Project planning is an essential stage in the project management process. During this stage, the project manager creates a project plan that outlines the project’s requirements, objectives, and deliverables. The project plan also maps out the steps required to complete the project, including task breakdown, time estimation, and project scope.

– Project Scope

Defining the project scope is the first step in project planning. The project scope outlines the boundaries of the project and defines what is and isn’t included. It helps to ensure that everyone involved in the project has a clear understanding of what is expected. A well-defined project scope helps to avoid scope creep, which is when the project’s goals and objectives change without proper authorization.

– Task Breakdown

The task breakdown is the process of breaking down the project into smaller, more manageable tasks. It involves identifying all the tasks required to complete the project and organizing them into a logical sequence. The task breakdown helps to ensure that all tasks are completed in the correct order and that nothing is missed.

To create a task breakdown, the project manager should start by identifying the project’s major deliverables. They should then break down each deliverable into smaller tasks and organize them into a logical sequence. The project manager should also consider the project team’s skills and expertise to ensure that tasks are assigned to the right people.

– Time Estimation

Time estimation is the process of estimating how long each task will take to complete. It helps to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget. Time estimation involves considering various factors, including the task’s complexity, the project team’s skills and expertise, and any potential risks or challenges.

To estimate the time required to complete each task, the project manager should consider the task’s duration, the resources required, and any potential risks or challenges. They should also consider the project team’s availability and workload. The project manager should document the time estimates and communicate them to all stakeholders to ensure everyone is aware of the project’s timeline.

In conclusion, project planning is a critical stage in the project management process. It helps to ensure that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. By defining the project scope, breaking down tasks, and estimating time, project managers can create a roadmap for success.

Quality Control

Quality control is an essential aspect of project management that ensures the deliverables meet the requirements and expectations of the stakeholders. It is a process that involves monitoring and verifying the project’s progress to identify any defects or deficiencies that may affect the quality of the final product.

Importance of Quality Control

Quality control is crucial to the success of any project. It helps to ensure that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of the stakeholders. By identifying and correcting any defects or deficiencies early in the project, quality control saves resources by reducing the need for rework or costly changes later on.

Quality Control Processes

The quality control process involves several key steps, including:

1. Inspection: Inspection involves examining the work product or deliverable to identify any defects or deficiencies that may affect its quality. This can be done through visual inspection, testing, or other means.

2. Testing: Testing involves evaluating the work product or deliverable to ensure that it meets the specified requirements and performs as expected. This can include functional testing, performance testing, or other types of testing.

3. Verification: Verification involves ensuring that the work product or deliverable meets the quality standards and requirements set forth in the project plan. This can be done through reviews, audits, or other means.

4. Documentation: Documentation involves recording the results of the quality control process, including any defects or deficiencies identified, the actions taken to correct them, and the overall quality of the work product or deliverable.

Quality Control Techniques

There are several techniques that project managers can use to ensure effective quality control, including:

1. Statistical Process Control (SPC): SPC involves using statistical methods to monitor and control the quality of the project’s processes. This can help to identify any trends or patterns that may indicate a problem with the process.

2. Pareto Analysis: Pareto analysis involves identifying the most significant problems or defects and focusing on correcting them first. This can help to ensure that the most critical issues are addressed first, saving time and resources.

3. Root Cause Analysis (RCA): RCA involves identifying the underlying causes of defects or deficiencies and addressing them to prevent similar problems from occurring in the future. This can help to improve the overall quality of the project’s deliverables.

Overall, effective quality control is essential to the success of any project. By implementing quality control processes and techniques, project managers can ensure that their projects meet the requirements and expectations of the stakeholders and are completed on time, within budget, and to a high level of quality.

Project Closure

Project closure is the final phase of the project management lifecycle. It involves systematically wrapping up all project activities, delivering the final product or service, and formally closing the project. The project closure phase officially puts an end to the project and provides a concrete plan for next steps, whether that’s transitioning project ownership to another team, starting a new project to improve on your work, or incorporating lessons learned into future projects.

Project Evaluation

The project evaluation is a crucial part of the project closure process. It involves reviewing the project’s objectives, deliverables, and outcomes to determine whether the project was successful or not. The evaluation should be conducted by the project team and stakeholders, and it should be based on the project’s original goals and objectives.

During the project evaluation, the team should assess the project’s performance, including its schedule, budget, quality, and scope. They should also evaluate the project’s risks, issues, and changes, and determine whether they were effectively managed. The team should also identify the project’s strengths and weaknesses, and identify opportunities for improvement.

Documentation

Documentation is another critical aspect of the project closure process. It involves creating and organizing all project-related documents, including project plans, schedules, budgets, contracts, and reports. The project team should ensure that all project documents are complete, accurate, and up-to-date and that they are stored in a secure and accessible location.

The project team should also prepare a final report that summarizes the project’s objectives, deliverables, outcomes, and evaluation results. The report should also include any recommendations for future projects, such as lessons learned and best practices. The final report should be distributed to all stakeholders, including the project sponsor, the project team, and other interested parties.

Conclusion

In conclusion, project management is a crucial tool for achieving project success. It involves disciplining all resources involved in the project to achieve its goals. The importance of project management cannot be overemphasized, as it ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of stakeholders.

Effective change management is an integral part of project planning and execution. Failure to manage change properly can result in project failure or reduced effectiveness. Therefore, it is essential to manage change as an integral part of project planning and execution.

Finally, project managers must have strong leadership skills to effectively manage their teams. They must be able to inspire, motivate, and guide team members to achieve project goals. Effective communication is also crucial, as it ensures that all team members are on the same page and working towards the same objectives.

You Can Be Forgiven. AG Daily Devotional.

Tuesday 26th September, 2023

TOPIC: YOU CAN BE FORGIVEN!

KEY VERSE:

“Have mercy upon me, O God, According to your loving-kindness; According to the multitude of your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions” (Psalm 51:1).

TODAY’S READING
Psalm 51:1 -15

ONE-YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN
Nehemiah 1-5

COMMENTARY

The background to Psalm 51 is 2 Samuel 11 and 12 which record David’s sin of adultery with Bathsheba, the killing of her husband, Uriah, in an unsuccessful attempt to cover it up, and the just judgment of God for the dastardly act delivered by Prophet Nathan.

In a demonstration of humility, remorse, and penitence, David wrote the Psalm in which he admitted his iniquity and cried for God’s mercy..

According to 2 Sam 11, David’s steps into the two sins began with idleness, not going to war when he was supposed to do so with his soldiers, and lack of self-control.

The next one, he saw the woman bathing. She was so beautiful he couldn’t resist the urge to sleep
with her and so he used his position as a king to send for her.

The encounter resulted in pregnancy. David fought very hard to lure her husband with unusual deeds of kindness to go to his house and sleep with his wife and be responsible for the pregnancy but he wouldn’t, so he sent a letter to Joab to post him to the hottest part of the battle, without any good support so that the enemy might kill him and it was so.

Thus, upon Uriah’s death, David sent for Bathsheba who became his wife. Managing sin is often not a very easy task. It can lead to murdering innocent people as in this case.

No human being is above temptation including sexual sins but the Bible says we should flee from such temptations, 1Cor. 6: 18; 1 Thess 5:22.

If we fall into sin as human beings we should show remorse, Confess, repent of it, and pray for God’s mercy, without passing the buck or attacking “Prophet Nathan”, 1 John 1:7-9. As part of God’s judgment, the child that was born died.

However, in response to David’s cry for mercy, God showed up on 2 Sam 12:24-25. Bathsheba conceived again and gave birth to Solomon. You too can be forgiven.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS

If we fall into sin as human beings we should show remorse, confess, and repent.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I come to You as I am, have mercy upon me, and forgive my sins in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE PASSAGE: John 4:19-24

[19]The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

[20]Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

[21]Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

[22]Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

[23]But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

[24]God is a Spirit: and they who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

MEMORY VERSE: O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. Psalms 95:6.

INTRODUCTION: Worship is an act of paying homage that involves deep respect, reverence, adoration, and showing sincere love to a supreme being. The Almighty God who created us must be worshipped for who He is and not because He needs anything from us (1Peter 2:9). We are created to show the splendour of God by glorifying Him (Psalms 29:2). Since we are created for worship, it is important we find out the ways to do it to be acceptable by God who commands it.

OUTLINES:

1. Preparing For Worship

2. Acceptable Worship

1. PREPARING FOR WORSHIP

Before moving into the external act of worship, there is the need for us to put our hearts in order (Psalms 51:10). This is to ensure that hindrances to our worship are off-loaded from our hearts (Romans 12:1-2). We must get rid of the “old man” with his deeds – anger, hatred, bitterness, and other vices (Colossians 3:8-9).

There is the need for us to also reconcile with God and man in any area of offence (Matthew 5:23-24; Acts 24:16). We need to make restitutions where necessary (Luke 19:8).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should mention other things Christians need to put in place in preparing for worship.

2. ACCEPTABLE WORSHIP

Not all worship is acceptable to God. There are various forms of unacceptable worship. These include:

1. Vain worship: this is based on lip service and not from the heart (Mark 7:6).

2. Ignorant worship: it refers to worship without the knowledge of who God is and how He should be worshipped (John 4:22; Acts 17:22-23).

3. Will or self-imposed worship: it refers to satisfying personal will and desire instead of carrying out God’s instruction (Colossians 2:20-23; Leviticus 10:1-2).

Therefore, acceptable worship must be rendered to God in spirit and truth (John 4:20-24); offered in holiness (Psalms 96:9); from a heart void of offence toward God, and toward men (Acts 24:16). It is one done by faith, like the sacrifice of Abel (Hebrews 11:4).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should mention other forms of unacceptable worship one can engage in.

CONCLUSION: The scripture teaches that only God should be worshipped (Exodus 20:1-5) and this should be done in spirit and truth.

QUESTIONS:

* In what ways should believers prepare for worship?

* Mention four things that make the act of worship acceptable to God.

ASSIGNMENT: Write five differences between Christian worship and idol worship. (2×5=10 marks).

OUTLINES:

1. Preparing For Worship

2. Acceptable Worship

LESSON OUTLINE 1: PREPARING FOR WORSHIP

Teachers should highlight the necessary things to put in place while preparing for worship as follows:

A. Our heart

i. Before moving into the external act of worship, there is the need for us to put our hearts in order (Psalm 51:10).

ii. This is to ensure that hindrances to our worship are off-loaded from our hearts (Romans 12:1-2).

iii. We must get rid of the “old man” with his deeds – anger, hatred, bitterness and other vices (Colossians 3:8-9).

B. Reconciliation

i. There is the need for us to also reconcile with God and man in any area of offence (Matthew 5:23-24; Acts 24:16).

ii. We need to make restitutions where necessary (Luke 19:8).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should mention other things Christians need to put in place in preparing for worship.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: ACCEPTABLE WORSHIP

A. Not all worship is acceptable to God (Psalm 15:1-5). There are various forms of unacceptable worship. These include:

1. Vain worship: this is based on lip service and not from the heart (Mark 7:6).

2. Ignorant worship: it refers to worship without the knowledge of who God really is and how He should be worshipped (John 4:22; Acts 17:22-23).

3. Will or self-imposed worship: it refers to satisfying personal will and desire instead of carrying out God’s instruction (Colossians 2:20-23; Leviticus 10:1-2).

B. Therefore, acceptable worship must be rendered to God:

i. In spirit and in truth (John 4:20-24).

ii. In holiness (Psalm 96:9).

iii. From a heart “void of offence toward God, and toward men” (Acts 24:16).

iv. By faith, like the sacrifice of Abel (Hebrews 11:4).

God Reach Out To His Own In Dark Hours. AG Daily Devotional.

A.G DAILY DEVOTIONAL–EVANGEL DAILY MEAL

Saturday 23rd September, 2023
____
*TOPIC: GOD REACHES OUT TO HIS OWN IN THE DARK HOURS*

KEY VERSE
“The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul” (Ps. 121:7).

TODAY’S READING:
Psalms 121:1-8

ONE-YEAR BIBLE STUDY PLAN
Esther 1-5

COMMENTARY

On August 4, 2020, a massive explosion rocked Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon, killing at least 137 people and injuring about 5000 others. The direct impact of the blast leveled thousands of buildings near the city port where the blast emanated from.

The shockwave caused extensive damage to the entire city which is home to two million people, rendering about 300,000 instantly homeless. It brought down or damaged buildings located as far as 10km away from the port.

But something strange happened in a church located less than a kilometer away from the explosion source. Although the entire church building of St. Dimitrios Greek Orthodox was completely shattered, the altar and everything in the sacred place were unscratched.

This church has turned into a beacon of hope to the devastated country as many rivet their eyes to it as a sign from God.

According to the presiding priest, Father Youil Nassif, finding the sacred altar place unaffected as well as an oil lamp that had remained lit throughout gave him hope that God is actually reaching out to His people in their dark times.

The Psalmist affirms this position in Psalm 121 which we have read today. It teaches us that even when times are dark all hope is lost, and everything seems gloomy,

God still rules in the affairs of men. He rules in the midst of chaos and confusion.

As the Psalmist says, “He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand” (Ps. 12 [:3-5).
If you are a child of God, step out in great confidence today knowing that Jehovah has your back. Be sure He will protect you.

If He protected this stationary altar of stone, earth, and wood, he would do
much more for you who is the temple of the Holy Spirit. God bless
your day as you dazzle your world with boldness.

CONTROLLING THOUGHTS
God’s promise for protection will never bounce back like a bad check. He is always watching” (Naide P. Obiang).

PRAYER
Father, I trust You completely to spread Your mighty hands of protection over me and my family in Jesus’ name.

Commentary and Application

*1. Reasons for Wholehearted Worship*
*A. God’s Deeds Are Amazing— Psalm 111:1-4*

As we consider Psalm 111, keep in mind that this psalm was recited at celebrations after the people of Judah returned from the Babylonian exile. These words were significant for God’s people. They had felt the sting of exile-the tragic consequences of persistent then experienced the great joy of deliverance and return to the Promised Land.

The psalm opens with thanksgiving directed toward the Lord (verse 1). This verse provides a description of corporate worship and thanksgiving. The verses that follow describe the motivation for praise that God’s people have as they gather together: They praise the Lord for His incredible works.

Verse 1 also provides an important description of God’s people: They are “the assembly of the upright” (KJV). The “upright” honour God with their lives. They walk in obedience to His commands. This reminds us that our praise is to be accompanied by the love for and pursuit of godliness. Similarly, this gathering for praise is made up of those who love and follow the One they are praising. The Psalmist probably recalled how generations of his ancestors had called themselves God’s people, and went through the actions of praise, but they rejected Him with their lives and ended up in judgment.

After defining the character of the worshippers, the Psalmist focuses on the content of their
praise. God’s deeds are amazing and worth pondering (verse 2). Why
are they amazing? Because they testify of His greatness in creating, sustaining, and governing the entire
universe. As we, His people, think about all He has done in making us, saving us, and helping us, we can be moved to even higher levels of praise.

The Psalmist reminds his readers in verse 3: “Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails” (NLT). God is righteous and good; His
righteousness is consistent. This is why we can always trust Him. He never goes back on His Word and never fails to do what He has promised. He is faithful to His righteous character.

It is not surprising, then, that the congregation of the godly’ is reminded of His Works. We, too, see the great things He does every day. We recognise His love at work in us. We observe His mercy changing lives that seemed unchangeable. We read the promises of His Word and know that our hope is real. Truly, God’s works are amazing, for we see our amazing God at work in big and small ways.

Questions for Application

Describe something amazing God has done in your life. In what sense is living according to God’s commands an act of praise?

B. Everything God Does Is Just and Good

Psalm 111:5-10

In Psalm 111:5, the writer focused on God’s covenant promises to His people, which unfolded through the Law. First, the Psalmist recalled God’s desire to care for the needs of His people. Indeed, care for the hungry and needy was a non-negotiable command from the Lord (see. Leviticus 19:9-10; Deuteronomy 15:7-11). .It was part of their identity as God’s people (see Isaiah 58:6-10).

We also see God’s faithfulness to His covenant promises in the expansion of the nation of Israel (Psalm 111:6). God promised Abraham that he would become a great nation and bless all nations (Genesis 12:1-3). This promise became a reality throughout the history of Israel. It even remained true when God’s people forsook Him and were sent into exile. They had failed to live worthy of a just and good God.

However, the Lord has never failed to be good and just (Psalm
111:7). His Word will surely come to pass, and therefore must always “be obeyed faithfully and with integrity” (verse 8, NLT). This was a challenge for God’s people throughout the Old Testament; it remains a challenge to God’s people today. Too often, the world casts doubt on God’s commands, claiming they are antiquated or intolerant, irrelevant to the current human situation. Such. claims accuse God of being unjust, calling into question His goodness. As His people, We must stay true to the conviction that God’s ways are always just and good.

The Psalmist declares the reality that God has redeemed His people(verse 9). This verse could be the capstone of this psalm. Redemption has always been at the heart of God’s dealings with humanity. In the Old Testament, He brought His people out of Egypt, and rescued them from enemies, plagues, and trials. He then led them out of the Babylonian Exile.

Because we fear the Lord, we have a solid foundation from which to gain “true wisdom” (verse 10, NLT). How fitting it is, then, to declare with the Psalmist that God is good and just in all His ways. Let us say with
the Psalmist, “Praise him forever! (NLT).

Questions for Application

How would you respond to someone who said that the BIble shows God is unjust or not good?

From what has God redeemed us through Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection?

2. Lead a Grace-Filled Life*
A. Fear the Lord–Psalm 112:1

Joy and fear are not usually found together, yet Psalm 112 begins by declaring that those who fear the
Lord are exceedingly joyful. As we examine this psalm, we realize why fearing the Lord will, in fact, produce
great joy.

Verse 1 lays the groundwork and provides the proper perspective for this very practical and encouraging psalm. To understand this, however, we need to grasp the meaning of fearing God. To fear God means to
revere Him and give proper respect to His exalted and sovereign position. Scripture is clear that while God is certainly our Friend, He is not Our peer or our equal. He is worthy to demand, and receive, the highest honour and reverence a human being could possibly give.

The latter half of verse 1 seems quite natural and appropriate, then,In declaring that God’s people “delight in obeying His commands” (NLT). Obedience isn’t a drudgery or a burden when we recognize God to be all that He really is: Lord, omnipotent God, mighty Saviour and Redeemer, and loving Father who desires relationshíp with His
children. Out of such a relationship, God’s people enjoy the marvelous and gracious promises described in
the remainder of the psalm.

Questions for Application

How would you define the term fear of the Lord” to someone who struggles to understand what It means?

How might we show that we “delight” in obeying the Lord, rather than view obedience as drudgery?

*B. Find Joy in a God-Fearing Life- Psalm 112:2-10*
As we read Psalm 112, we quickly recognize three practical and timeless aspects:

(1) it teaches the importance of godly living as a reflection of the One we serve;

(2) it realistically portrays everyday experiences of life and human interaction; and

(3) it reminds the reader that strong faith is the key to overcoming difficult times and hardships.

Godly men and women have the responsibility to leave a spiritual legacy (verse 2). While this is certainly true of parents and grandparents, all who impact the lives of children have the opportunity to mentor them in the ways of the Lord.

In verse 3, the Psalmist explained that God’s blessings are reflected in the life of the God-fearer. Here the focus is not on material blessings. “Wealth and riches” are often used in a non-material sense (Proverbs 8:18-19; 13:7). The “good deeds” (Psalm 112:3, NLT) describe how God’s people have ordered their lives according to God’s Word. This blessing will continue as their family continues to follow in the godly person’s steps.

Circumstances might not always be favourable to those who are godly. They may experience “darkness” (verse 4). But the light that shines in ) the darkness offers them hope. They can discern spiritual truth- God’s divine will. Instead of drawing back in adversity, the hope that comes from God causes the godly to be “generous, compassionate, and righteous” (NLT). The God-fearer recognises the needs of others and looks for ways to meet those needs.

Those who fear God recognize His blessing on their lives and they, in turn, bless others. They are honest in all their dealings with others (verse 5). The fact they are “not overcome by evil” (verse 6, NLT) may mean that
they do not retaliate against those who wrong them. If someone wrongs them, they act fairly toward that
person. It could also mean that those who fear God find security in Him.

They persevere through the adversities of life. Their steadfastness in difficult times is a testimony to God’s presence and strength in their lives. People will notice this steadfastness as an example of what it means to faithfully serve God. Even when “bad news”
(e.g., difficulties, adversities) comes, they are steadfast and “confidently  trust the Lord to care for them” (verse 7, NLT) and “can face their foes triumphantly” (verse 8, NLT)

Verse 9 is similar to verse 4 in that the God-fearer recognizes when people are in need, and he or she responds accordingly. This quality is always important, for needy people will always be present around us. How will we respond? The Psalmist is clear in saying that generous sharing is the proper response.

Perhaps the greatest contrast between God-fearer and unbeliever is brought to light in verse 10. When
an unbeliever sees a believer acting in a godly way, the response is often anger, perhaps motivated by envy,
guilt, or simple animosity toward the people of God. Such a response should not surprise the God-fearer. Rather, we can find consolation in knowing that God will bless us for eternity. Tragically, the unbeliever who persists in unbelief has a future of sadness and judgment.

Questions for Application

How do you most often respond when you see someone in need and how does that response compare to the words of the Psalmist?

What is the best response when an unbeliever expresses animosity toward you because you are living out your faith?

*3. Exalt the Uplifting One*
*A. The Lord Is Exalted—Psalm 113:1-4*

Psalm 113 summons God’s people to praise with a call to “praise the name of the Lord” (verse 1, NLT). As is often the case in Scripture, the Lord’s “name” is a reference to His character, reputation, and attributes. It points to the entirety of His being. When the worshipper exalts the name of the Lord. he or she is focusing on His character, goodness, and sovereign power
over all of His creation.

The “blessed” in verse 2 focuses on bowing down. The name of the Lord is blessed when we bow down in worship and in humble submission to Him. Such submission begins when we first follow Him and continues throughout our lives. The honour, exaltation, and submission we offer God is to be a lifestyle. It
ought to characterize every part of our lives.

In verse 4, the Psalmist describes why the Lord is to be praised. Each nation of Canaan had
its own god. There were many local gods to which the surrounding
nations entrusted their well-being. By saying that God is exalted above the nations, the Psalmist pointed out that only the one true God can be
trusted. The other nations were looking for power and security in unworthy places. Only the Lord is worthy of the highest praise.

Questions for Application

What “other gods” do people trust today, and why?

What are some practical ways to show submission to God?

*B. Who Is Like the Lord Our God?– Psalm 113:5-9*

The Psalmist asked a rhetorical question: “Who is like unto the Lord?”

(Psalm 113:5, KJV). The obvious answer is no one. He is unique and unsurpassed. As Creator of heaven and the Earth, nothing in His creation compares with Him. This is what is known as the “transcendence of God,” meaning that He is far above Creation in status and glory. Yet the Psalmist proclaimed the immanence of God,” a reference to His nearness to us. He “stoops” (verse 6, NLT) or “humbleth himself (KJV) on our behalf, to lift up those who are poor and needy, temporally and spiritually. Then He exalts them, moving them from the pit to the pinnacle (see 1 Samuel 2:8). Psalm 113:5-9 provides a picture of God’s Work of compassion and stooping low on our behalf, as is seen in

Christ. While we praise Him for reaching down to help us day by day, our ultimate praise can focus on the greatest spiritual reality: The Almighty, creator God, King of kings, has done what we could not do to make the way for us to know Him.#Blessed be the name of our Lord!

Questions for Application

Why is it important for a Christian to understand both the transcendence and immanence of God?

What are some ways God has “lifted you up” from the pit to the pinnacle?

The Thought That Counts. AG Teen Manual

TEXT: Gen 9:6; Exo 20:13-14; Prov 18:21; Matt 5:21-28; 1 Cor 6:9, 13-20

KEY VERSE: 2 Timothy 2:22

Flee evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (NIV)

Focus
In recent years, there is an increase of spiritual curiosity among young people. However, that doesn’t necessarily translate to Christianity, but many teens and young adults are open to “religion.” Religions, however, are laden with outward rituals, routines, and practices. But Christianity is about a true relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Thus, following God’s commands is a heart issue, having more to do with what happens on the inside than the outside actions.

The Sixth and Seventh Commandments covered in this session deal with clearly defined actions. But Jesus goes deeper, linking our respect for these commands to our thoughts and words. As you prepare, look deeper into your own life. You may be keeping God’s commands outwardly, but are you: relying on His help to keep them inwardly? Use this study as occasion to recommit your mouth and mind to God-pleasing purposes.

The Basic Message: Explain to students…

WHAT’S THE BIG IDEA?
When it comes to keeping God’s laws, thoughts can be as important as actions.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

People often break God’s laws inwardly, If not outwardly; and sinful thoughts typically lead to sinful actions.

HOW DO I LIVE IT?

Depend on God for help In keeping your thoughts toward others loving and pure.

Activity Option: THOUGHTS & ACTIONS

Write the following headings at the top of two columns on the board: 1) Thoughts Matter, 2) Actions Matter. Ask students to first describe situations In which thoughts or feelings matter more than actions (e.g., giving gifts, praying). List the responses on the board. Next, ask students to describe situations In which actions matter more than thoughts or feelings (e.g. taking needed actions In spite of being afraid, finishing your homework), Then discuss the following questions:

Guide: Explain that when it comes to following Christ, faith without action is useless (James 2:14-26). But thoughts affect actions. That’s why thoughts are critical. In fact, Jesus often put more emphasis on thoughts and attitudes of the heart than on outward actions.

• Why do actions matter? Why do thoughts matter? [Hint: Intention without actions don’t accomplish anything. But doing things for the wrong reasons or with a bad attitude can lead to trouble.

Study Overview:Explain that today’s study considers how.

• Thoughts and words can inflict death and destruction in people’s lives.
• Sexual sins start in the heart and mind.
• Depending on God to guide our thoughts and actions brings true freedom.

Inform and Discuss

a). Murder and the Mind

Teacher Hint: Read or have a volunteer read Exo 20:13. Explain that most people take this law for granted without any inclination to break it. But in the New Testament, Jesus says something about this issue that brings it closer to home.

1. Read or have a volunteer read Matt 5:21-22. How does this passage relate attitudes and actions to murder? [Hint: Anger to the point of hatred is worthy of God’s judgment. This doesn’t mean that being “mad” at someone is the moral equivalent of taking his or her life; for there is a place for righteous anger regarding wickedness or injustice. But the passage does indicate that harbouring deep, vindictive anger toward another individual can destroy you.]

2. Why would contempt or hatred toward someone be this serious? [Hint: Physical murder isn’t the only way we “kill” other people. By harsh words, attitudes, and actions, we may be guilty of character assassination. This kind of cruelty can bring death emotionally and spiritually to all people involved (Prov 18:21). And ultimately, spiritual destruction is far worse than physical death.]

3. Read or have a volunteer read Matt 5:23-26. What is your responsibility as a Christian if you’ve been hurt by someone or if you have hurt another?

Guide: Explain how hurtful words that aren’t reconciled block fellowship with God. We must make things right before worshipping or asking God for things. Doing right is more important than proving who’s right. Remember, Jesus reconciled us to Himself. He initiated the relationship even though He is innocent and we are guilty.

4. Read or have a volunteer read Gen 9:6. What reason does this passage give for the seriousness of murder? [Hint: People are made in God’s image. Abusing another human being, physically or verbally, can destroy the image of God within him or her.]

b). Adultery and Attitude
>Teacher Hint: Read or have a volunteer read Exo 20:14. Explain that the more comprehensive nature of this command indicates that any sexual act outside of a biblical marriage relationship is forbidden.

*>>Note:* Sex is an intense desire that God has placed in each person, but IT IS NOT an uncontrollable need. The One who gave us the desire for sex has also given us the ability to control ourselves and express our sexual desires in appropriate ways.]

1. Read or have a volunteer read Matt 5:23-26. Discuss and list some of the things that can lead to lust. [Hint: e.g., pornography, dirty jokes, sexual images or innuendos in movies and television.]

2. What is the difference between temptation and lust? Hint: Temptation usually appeals to natural desires. We can’t always control being tempted, but we can control what we continue thinking about. When we choose to dwell on the desires for things we shouldn’t have, we lust.

Guide: Explain that entertaining temptation quickly leads to lust, and allowing your mind to fantasize about people who aren’t your spouse is wrong because desire is meant to lead to action. The challenge is to stop this process before it starts to get away from temptation in the first place.

3. Read or have a volunteer read 2 Tim 2:22. What advice does this passage give regarding lust? How should it affect our actions?
Note: Never try to prove how spiritually strong you are by constantly exposing yourself to tempting situations. The Bible instructs you to be wiser than that-FLEE!

4. Read or have volunteers read 1 Cor 6:9, 13-20. Discuss and list some consequences of ungodly sexual activity. [Guide: Sort responses into three categories: physical (e.g., pregnancy, disease); emotional (e.g., degrades and makes objects of those involved, brings guilt and regret); and spiritual (e.g., separation from God, won’t enter His kingdom).

Guide: Explain that God gave rules regarding the use of the human body’s sexual drive because He didn’t want it to be ruined or used to hurt and destroy people. Disobeying God’s laws and misusing our sexuality has both immediate and long-term consequences.

Inspire Them: Remind students “The Basic Message” of this study (pa 61). explain WHAT the Big Idea behind the study is; WHY it matters: and HOW we can live the lesson captured in the study.

Ministry Activity: PRAYER FOR PEACE AND PURITY

You are almost certain to have students in class who are currently experiencing the pain of destructive words or guilt of sexual misconduct. Remind them that peace and purity can be difficult goals for anyone and may seem impossible for those who don’t have a relationship with Jesus. Assure students that God offers complete healing and absolute forgiveness, whether people have hurt them or they have hurt themselves. Allow time for personal reflection, then offer prayer for those who need emotional, physical, or spiritual healing. Invite those who haven’t made Jesus the Forgiver of their sins and the Leader of their lives to do so now.

*>>Conclude* by challenging students to settle any unresolved conflicts or hurtful situations by forgiving or asking forgiveness of others. Remind them that Christ expects this type of grace and humility in His followers.

Teacher Hint: Ask yourself

1. Have students considered the connection between their thoughts and actions?
2. Do students understand how we can break God’s commandments In thoughts and words as well as in actions?
3. Have students considered how to avoid hurtful actions toward others and in their own lives?
4. Have students had opportunity to resolve past issues by receiving God’s forgiveness or extending forgiveness toward others?
